Poppyseed, asiago, cinnamon raisin, blueberry… I’m thinking about bagels this morning, and not just because of their carb-o-licious goodness. I’m currently “reading” an audiobook called Take Control of Your Life by Mel Robbins, and it’s about fear and learning how to move past it. I just finished a story in it about bagels, of all things.
In the book, Mel talks about viewing things as either obstacles or opportunities, and she tells a story about two men who finish a foot race. There are free bagels at the finish line, and one guy says, “Oh, look, there’s free bagels. Let’s go get some.” But the other guy says, “The line is too long.”
Both men look at the bagels in different ways. The guy who sees the yummy bagels in yo’ tummy focuses on the opportunity, while the other guy sees the obstacle (the long line).
Interesting, huh?
Which person are you? I think I’m the person who automatically sees the obstacles, but I’d like to be the person who focuses on the yummy bagels, so that’s what I’m working on now…
Just some food for thought on this lovely morning.

Speaking of bagels, here’s how they’re made.
I think it’s a good time to hunt down a bagel. Ooh! — one with cream cheese and smoked salmon! ?
Have a great weekend!

Your post hit the mark for me today! As I’m moving and going through decades of “stuff”, the obstacle is cleaning, sorting, deadlines, and sore muscles galore, to the opportunity of a new home, new location to explore, and more desirable financial security. What a coincidence, and welcome realization booster!
Make your best everything,
L

I would say “Oh look at those delicious bagels but the line is too long.” Lol I tend to see both sides of the coin. But I’m mostly an optimist. That book sounds interesting I’ll look for it.

God there is some cute cat clothing in that one link! And I’m curious about the perfumes inspired by pieces in the Louvre.

I don’t think you can simplify it like that to either “free bagels” or “the line is too long”. You have to consider what your time is worth. If you have to wait 30 minutes for a free bagel or you could walk across the street to get one in 5 minutes for $2, it would be worth it to skip the line and cross the street. Personally, I don’t stand in lines unless I need to like at the DMV or checking in for an airline flight. I wouldn’t consider it an obstacle but rather a frustration.
Those aren’t bagels. Those are round shaped pieces of bread. Good grief, I miss NYC bagels.

I usually get excited about anything free, so I think I would wait for the bagels! Is it irrational that one thing I thought of before getting a phone that does facial recognition was “what if it’s halloween and I have crazy makeup on and I can’t get into my phone?!” And I think Christina Aguilera has had way too much work done! Yuck!

I LOVE that makeup is being created for men! Why should women have all the fun and no under-eye bags?! 😀

Ugh. That obstacle v. Opportunity thing is sooo true and I wish I were the opportunity one instead of obstacle. My boyfriend is definitely the opportunity one, nothings too big or impossible for him to do and I adore that about him. I think it’s rubbing off on me a bit. I’m in the beginning stages of a divorce and I was letting the stress consume me, and he kept reminding me that everything will be fine and to lose some money is nothing over your health. Too true. I need to start seeing everything as a possible opportunity, it would make my life much better!

The Alicia song “True Colors” got me. I cried. I am currently going through one of the hardest times in my life. I just had a conversation with a acquaintance, I won’t even say friend, but I said to him this morning, one day, I won’t be “too much, too intense, talk too much, feel too much, be too much, for someone. I will not feel like I don’t belong here, like I have never been accepted, or truly appreciated nor has anyone ever been fully comfortable around me if I allow myself to be exactly who God made me. I have been under this “knowing” all my life. My mom was the very beginning of my knowing I was somehow not going to have a pleasant experience in life. I cannot nor would I want to- too recall feeling people withdraw, leave, be given names, called crazy, “too much”, “calm down”, or just looked at with disbelief— but it’s that separation that happens either in their eyes, words spoken, or people just leave my life— it all is rejection to the heart.
I have reached an age however, I accept myself, but it never stops affecting you, your psyche, or your ability to connect with others. I live my life now basically in seclusion. It’s just not worth it. How awfully sad though. I have such a kind, tolerant, wise because of the experiences, rejection I have had to overcome, and the healed scars, the compassion that is unending. I love humans, but I don’t dare anymore. Rarely am I even able to let anyone know me. This world is far too brutal for someone like me. I know I am not alone, my prayer for the majority of my life has been that God give me ONE human only one, to know me, deeply and have the capacity to allow me to be who I am, in all that entails, and just let me be me. I’m afraid, other than psychologists, therapist, and the like, it’s not happened yet.
People are afraid of those of us who aren’t afraid to be LIVE and LOVE with abandon, LIFE, PEOPLE, and to be FULLY ALIVE.
So thank you Ms. Karen. I appreciate you, how you share your life, your transparency, and your beautiful heart. I wish a lot of times, I were somewhere near you, so I could maybe, be a friend, I believe you would, just maybe be one of those people I have looked for. I have been with you for a long time, and I think you are pretty awesome. Man how neat it would be if someone could think that about me, and my overly stuffed personality! You know what? I’m a really cool, fully of goofy, zany, and sometimes you never know what you might get- but I wouldn’t hurt another human for anything in this earth– and thank God, I like me, if I didn’t I wouldn’t have made it thus far.
Thanks for the beautiful song, and Alicia, I adore her. Thanks for sticking with us, I so appreciate you.
Gina

Gina, sweet girl. Please know you are not alone! I think you’re wonderful and thoughtful, and your ability to feel so deeply is (believe it or not), your special superpower. Some people can’t even feel at all. To experience emotion so intensely must be difficult for you, but you can *feel*. ❤️❤️❤️ You are important and a special person in this world. You are cherished!
