Goooood morning, my dear! ? How are you?
Here’s a not-so-pressing question for you on this lovely Caturday morning: Is grapefruit great or gross?
Inquiring minds want to know…
See, I grew up in a family in which everyone loved grapefruit, so it didn’t occur to me until adulthood that the grapefruit would be such a polarizing snack. ?
El Hub and Connor are not fans, and they make a point of telling me this whenever I eat one. So I’m the lone wolf grapefruit lover in our family.
I’ve been eating a ton of grapefruit lately. I’ve been in a grapefruit craving mode, and it’s been my favorite breakfast snack as of late…along with a chocolate croissant from Trader Joe’s! (Oh, my goodness, have you tried those?)
Obvs, a freshly baked chocolate bakery croissant is ideal, but if you can’t get ahold of one, the packaged ones in the bread section at TJ’s are pretty good. They’re so good, in fact, that sometimes I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and think to myself, “I wish I were eating a Trader Joe’s chocolate croissant right now…” #TruthBomb
OK, before I get too distracted, quick shout-out to this silicone-free Pantene conditioner I grabbed on a whim recently! I use it as a co-wash, but if you have fine hair, I think you might like it as a traditional conditioner too. It’s moisturizing, not heavy at all, and dang if my hair doesn’t smell like sweet cut grass and aloe afterward. I like it.
Well, my tummy is rumbling, and I need to get this chocolate croissant into my belly ASAP, so onward to this weekend’s reading!

Good morning, Karen! I hope you, Connor, El Hub and Rosie have a great weekend. 🙂 Re: grapefruit, have you tried the red grapefruit segments in juice from Costco? I eat at least one little container every day and they are BOMB! Love me some morning citrus.

You know how there’s a gene where coriander tastes like soap to some people and it’s not preference it’s literally genetic? I’m convinced there’s something similar for grapefruit. It tastes like metal to me, there’s nothing pleasant. I can’t even say I hate it because I can’t taste whatever it is supposed to taste like. I can eat other citrus fine tho

I like how grapefruit smells but I’m not fond of actually eating one, for me it doesn’t taste how it smells.
Oooh, I want to try that hairstyle! Maybe when my hair is a bit longer I can try for something similar! I also really like that soft glam makeup. Lately I’ve been playing with more matte shades on my lids instead of shimmer, and more shimmery of liner. Im really liking how my experiments are turning out ☺️ And I love that I’m discovering new combos with products I’ve had for a while.

I love grapefruit—yellow, pink (my favorite), or ruby (my husband’s favorite). They’re all delicious. And nothing beats a European style sparkling grapefruit beverage poured over a tall tumbler of ice—so refreshing on a hot summer day. My husband also loves grapefruit as do my two sons so perhaps Cncx is on the right track when she mentions genetics.
Oooo. . . I love an authentic bakery croissant. A good one is light, very flaky, and it melts in your mouth. My favorite ones are plain but I used to buy the chocolate ones as a special treat for my sons when they were growing up.

I like ruby red grapefruit, but can easily pass on the yellow. I think Dear Husband likes grapefruit, because he’s the one who brought the special grapefruit spoons into this relationship.
I’m fussy about my croissants. If they’re not crisp (so they shatter when you bite into them) on the outside and light and airy yet buttery on the inside I’ll pass. And I really don’t like pain au chocolat or almond croissants. The plus side of this fussiness is that it keeps me from over-indulging on calories I don’t need.
Loved that Chanel video. I’ve wanted a Chanel jacket ever since I saw one Vogue magazine when I was in high school. Over forty years later, I still don’t own one. Sigh.

I can’t stand the smell or taste of grapefruit. I also cannot stand the smell of cucumbers.
I’ll have to find that chocolate croissant at Trader Joe’s. Our nearest TJ is so small, I kind of doubt I’ll find it there. About 20% of their space is devoted to wine and other alcoholic drinks. I wonder if that’s typical of the chain, or if that’s a nod to the high rate of alcoholism this state has.

I didn’t realize until NOW that grapefruit was polarizing. 🙂 I’m a fan but, truth be told, it’s one of the only things I put sugar on. Cut it in half, scatter a bit of sugar over it and then eat it with a serrated spoon. The only other thing I can think of that I put sugar on is strawberries. Kinda weird that I’m sugaring fruit, but I find both can be unpleasantly tart. 🙂
Karen says
OK, speaking of sugar, my friend recently said to try putting honey and pepper on grapefruit! It sounds weird and wonderful to me!

I tested out the nail polish hack using an activated charcoal toothpaste. It didn’t have that key ingredient so not only did the nail polish stay in place, my nails were stained black. =P
