Welcome to the weekend, my friend!
Time to rest and recharge your batteries (hopefully!). For me, that means painting my paws, because when my paws are painted, the stars are in alignment. Mercury avoids retrograde. Pluto becomes a planet again… I feel so naked these days because we can’t wear nail polish to work at the bakery for food handling reasons. So the first thing I like to do on my days off is paint my nails. 💅
Last night I did a quick mani before bed with one of the new Expressie quick-drying polishes from Essie (grabbed it at Target last night for $9). They have a built-in base, color and top coat and, allegedly, they’re supposed to dry in one minute… Took more like 5 though, which is still pretty good, considering there’s a base and top coat up in the mix. I’m wearing two coats of rosy pink called Second Hand First Love on my fingers.
I like the smoothness and opacity. It looks even from base to tip, sans streaks, and the finish is super shiny and almost gel-like. Two coats was perfect.
No nicks yet as of this morning, but quick-drying polishes are notorious for chipping easily, so I’m not holding onto any illusions that it’ll last more than a few days…but who knows? Hopefully Expressie will prove that wrong.
Either way, it was just what my nails needed for a quick fix.
You know what else I need to do right now? Finish this cup of coffee! 😊
That means it’s time for Saturday Surfing.
- The only Valentine’s Day gift I really want is this Keanu Reeves coloring book. 💖
- Here’s what astronaut Christina Koch did in space while she was breaking the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman.
- This year, give your significant other “flours” for Valentine’s Day with a bouquet of Olive Garden Breadsticks. 😂
- Love this —-> “Nothing is ever lost by being generous.”
- I wonder how many people stepped on Lego when they built this cherry blossom tree out of 800,0000 blocks.
- Speaking of Lego, anti-Lego slippers now exist to protect your precious feet!
- In a single year, Canada lifted nearly 300,000 kids out of poverty with a program known as a child benefit.

Eyeliner tips for hooded lids: YES, PLEASE
So fun. And I love Lizzo’s blue eye makeup, swoon!
I want to wear this look to Costco (FOR REAL).
Wish we were here
I want all the notebooks…
This is the song stuck in my head at the moment.

Are you doing anything this weekend to refill your well?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
I bought Taxi Hopping from Espressi and while it dries fast, it chips very fast as well. $9 for a polish that chipped in half a day and when I didn’t do much with my hands is a super FAIL for me. Won’t be buying another. The OG formula is better imo. Bummer bc it’s a cool weird mustard yellow which I’m a a sucker for😉
Your posts actually help refill my well. I took a big new job a couple weeks ago, and I’m scared of failing and dealing with the dislocation of moving to a new office with all new people and now I’m their leader. So I’ve not been sleeping great or eating as usual, and to have the weekend to just rest and do things like read blogs is a relief. Thank you for being here to lift readers’ spirits, Karen. PS: How is Rosie?
Congratulations on your new job, Laura. It’s always scary to jump into a new situation at first, but soon enough you’ll be familiar with the job. That time will come, and I know you’re going to kill it!
P.S. Rosie is as sweet as pie. She’s so, so smart and has the sweetest, kindest heart. And she’s so chatty! Especially in the wee hours of the morning when she pretends she’s hunting her toys, oh my gosh… We fall more in love with her every day.
I didn’t even know Essie came out with a quick dry nail polish. Generally I like to use a good quick dry top coat to get my polish nice and glossy. I like the ones by KB Shimmer and Glisten and Glow. I really like the pink color you chose. I’ve been into pink polish recently. A lot of it has to do with Dear Husband liking it better than darker bolder colors on me.
How many days a week do you work at the bakery? Which days do you get off?
OMG as much as I like the Keanu Reeves coloring book, I also noticed they have an Idris Elba coloring book. Be still my beating heart!!! IDRIS!!!
Thanks for the pick me up!
Yes! The quick dries are pretty new. There’s a clear Expressie — might have to try that!
I work part-time at the bakery, usually 3-4 days a week, Tuesday through Friday. We’re closed on Mondays, but since Valentine’s Day is a huge day I’ll have to come in this Monday to do lots of prep for the week.
And ha ha, I want the Idris coloring book too!
I never really thought of Valentine’s Day as being a big bakery day. But now that you mentioned it, it sorta makes sense. I used to just bake brownies or chocolate cake for the day and stencil on powdered sugar hearts. Been trying to cut out sugar so won’t be doing that this year. And Dear Husband is taking me to LA for VD, since he leaves for another extended trip to Japan on Saturday. Sigh. Wish I could go with him again.
Now I’m in the mood for a manicure. I bought that Essie shade you had on a couple of weeks ago, it’s so pretty!! I will be cooking comfort foods this weekend to unwind…I live for soups and stews in the winter. New York Times Cooking is pretty bomb for trying out new recipes. I have a White Bean, Kale and Sausage soup recipe lined up for tonight. And a Greek lentil soup for tomorrow.
I have a new job too!! In a field that’s completely new to me. I’ve been having some “imposter syndrome” anxiety all month. Cooking helps 😁 And your blogs help too 😘
I saw a book at Barnes and Noble the other day and thought of you. It is call “If Keanu Were Your Boyfriend: The Man, The Myth, The Whoa!” It has a bright pink cover and a cartoon drawing of Keanu Reeves. Next time you are in B & N, you should look for it! That Lego cherry blossom tree is amazing. Have you watched the new Lego reality series with Will Arnett? It is actually really fun to watch, and the groups build incredibly intricate and difficult creations.
I love Lizzo and Harry Styles, so them coming together was amazing! The article about Christna Koch was amazing.
I loved Legos growing up. Mom’s rule was you needed a clear path through the Legos in case of fire or if anyone needed to vomit 😹
I took an aerial class this AM and then napped with the animals. Woke up with Jiji on my hip, which us pretty nice.
