Good mornin’ and happy Caturday ? to ya.
Quick question: Have you ever wished that you could crochet for the sole purpose of being able to make a handmade sweater for your cat?
If yes, then you will totally get why I want this book I saw at Barnes and Noble!
I wonder how long the cats on the cover actually had those sweaters on…because Tabs would have slipped out quicker than a cheetah chasing dinner.
Anywho…if you’re looking for a gift for your favorite crazy cat lady, I think this would be purr-fect.
I’m taking it easy today because, once again, I caught a bug. ? Yup, I made it cold-free for three weeks, so I guess it was time, LOL! Everyone tells me that the first year of preschool is the hardest because kids bring home everything, so everyone is sick all the time, and they weren’t kidding.
Oh, well. I’ve heard it tapers off around April, so fingers and toes crossed I make it till then, ha ha!
Now I’m off to go eat the hearty breakfast El Hub made for me and Connor. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and clementine orange slices. And suck on another Cold-EEZE.
While I do that, here’s some easy reading (like easy listening) to help you get your weekend off to a good start.

There’s a new drugstore beauty brand in town backed by Covergirl called Full Spectrum, and it’s marketed specifically for “women of color” — a term that has always made me pause a few beats…seeing as how there are A LOT of different skin tones, undertones and color temps out there, but that’s another rambling for another day.
The line does have a wide shade range — 20 shades of matte liquid foundation, 12 shades of powder foundation and six shades of concealer. And they have a good mix of eye, lip and cheek products, too. You can find it at Ulta.

MBB reader Jane asked me the other day how I felt about buying beauty products from stores like Marshalls.
Well, as you know, I love a good discount, but I don’t regularly buy beauty products from discount stores on the off chance that they may have been diverted products. Yes, there’s a moderate chance that that shampoo or conditioner you’re eyeing could be counterfeit, diluted, expired or could have a discontinued formula that’s been deemed unsafe to use.
Here’s how you can spot whether a product has been diverted.
- “It’s holiday,” says makeup artist Nick Barose. “You’re not supposed to be looking natural.” Nick paints celeb faces (including Lupita Nyong’o and Gugu Mbatha-Raw), and here’s his step-by-step guide to adding glitters and metallics to your makeup this holiday season.
- Some people might think this is kind of an odd thing to want to smell like…but I’ve actually always wanted a perfume that’ll make me smell like an old church.
- This French fragrance brand is betting that wealthy customers will drop between $1.5 million and $20 million for a customized bottle of perfume, and I’m like SRRSLY!? Y’all can’t just buy a bottle of Byredo Gypsy Water at SpaceNK?
- True or false: Your genes matter more than your skin care routine.
- David Lee Roth (yes, that guy who wore spandex and colorful footwear and had big, teased hair out to here in the ’80s) has a new skin care line. Fun fact: Did you know he’s a licensed EMT in New York City? And that his voice spans five octaves?
- Why does your cat lick her fur where you just petted her?
- 7 ways to tell if your cat is mad at you
They look like they’re having so much fun!
Just move on up!

Someone make this for me, please!
Stop by and say hi. 🙂 I’ll be chillin’ on the couch today.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

That book looks amazing! I have never crocheted in my life, but I might have to learn. All my kitties prefer to go au naturel, but that looks like a fun way to learn.
How funny that David Lee Roth has a skin care line!
Good info to check for diverted products!
Hope you feel better soon! Does Tabs like to snuggle with you on the couch?
It is gloomy and rainy here, but Ella is tucked into my lap keeping me cozy. 🙂
Happy Caturday!

Hi Karen!! Feel better soon. I too, am sick today. I started getting sick Wednesday night. It began with a scratchy throat. Now it’s a full blown cold. Here’s the thing. I haven’t had a sore throat in 10 years and haven’t had a cold in 7. I know that sounds crazy. I have a pretty good immune system. Alas, this 51 year old caught her 25 year old daughter’s cold. Mine might be more of a flu I fear, because I had the chills with it as well, and I’m so fatigued. I’m such a big baby I must confess, because I never get sick. You take it easy Karen and get lots of rest!!
Karen says
Hi Sherry,
You’re so lucky! Before I had Connor I’d get catch a cold 2 or 3 times during the entire year. Now it’s like every five seconds, LOL. I hope that you don’t have the flu and that you feel better soon!

On thank heavens; I thought my prayers to smell like an old church would never be answered! ⛪ ?
I’m looooving those sparkly looks from Nick Barose. That peacock eye! I might attempt a modified version of that. (Read: much more realistic amount of glitter.)
Karen says
LOL, I’ve actually always wanted to smell like one! I’m sure it’s not easy getting the perfect balance of candles, incense, dust and old wood. 🙂
I think you should just GO FOR THE GLITTER, btw!

I’m happy there will be more drugstore availability for “women of color” but seriously I feel like cosmetics companies always forget about Asians when they market their ranges. Am I wrong? Like even the link you posted the girls didn’t look Asian. Sorry, might just be extra grumpy because I’m possibly getting sick too blech!
Karen says
I totally get it. Even within the mid-range tones can be so different. Often times I find that the yellow-based shades are either too yellow or not yellow enough. Makes me wish sometimes that I could just go up to a counter and get something immediately mixed for me on the spot!

I desperately want to knit a sweater for my cat but I’m pretty sure if I tried to put her in one she’d never talk to me again!
Karen says
I think you should make one for her anyway!
Katie says
She’ll have to forgive me eventually, right? 🙂
Karen says
Once she sees the fabulous pics I’m sure all will be forgiven.

Honestly you find the best internet content for us. I so look fwd to you referrals. LOVE the dancing gym. Was hoping guy with babe makes it to the floor and was not disappointed. Fun class!
Karen says
I would take that class in a heartbeat. SO FUN!

Hey Karen, thanks for the “shout-out”. I am honored!
Anyway, I love Curtis Mayfield and Cacio & Pepe is one of Zack’s favorite pasta dishes to make. Finally, I know it may not be PC and I am aware of history, but I dislike the term “people of color” as if being white or light-skinned has no color. There is so much diversity among us to celebrate. I am of Eastern-European background, but I have a bit of golden-olive in my skin tone. Do I lack color! That is all on that subject.
Have a great Monday!
