Oh, you guys. Parenting during a pandemic: it is not for the faint of heart. Like many people, El Hub and I have had to make some tough decisions about sending our kid back to school, so it’s been a rough week… So rough that even lipstick could barely get me through it. But you know. We’re brave. And we’re tough. And we can do things we never thought we could do, right? At least that’s what I keep telling myself 10 million times a day.
I’ve started doing this thing where I set reminders on my phone with my affirmations, so they pop up throughout the day, and I can just read them over and over again.
You know what they say — fake it ’til you make it.
You know what they also say? When the going get tough, the tough eat pasta, which is why you’re looking at that pasta picture at the top. (I should’ve probably intro’d with that, whoops!)
If any picture were able to convey that Connor is 100% her mother’s daughter, it would be this one…
Which reminds me, I made this lemon tagliatelle pasta from Laura in the Kitchen a few days ago…
I gave Connor her plate, stepped out of the room to go check something, and when I came back this was how she was eating her food. ?
We ate the pasta with parmesan basil salmon and a corn and basil tomato salad, which, by the way, was BOMB, and I’m happy to share it with you. I’ll have the recipe up in a few days!

Connor has it right! That’s the only way to eat pasta! At least as a child. Clearly she’s enjoying that pasta! And that salmon looks scrumptious!
Have a great weekend! Stay cool!

Happy Saturday! That pasta looks delicious. Having positive affirmations pop up on your phone is a great idea. Have you ordered from Dermstore? I remember in a previous post, you mentioned that you use the Elta MD sunscreen. I use the Elta MD sunscreen for the face and love it because it doesn’t break my face out. I get it from my dermatologist’s office, but I saw they sell the brand from Dermstore. Stay cool.

Hi Marcia,
I’ve made Dermstore purchases for the 10 years or so that they’ve been online. I’ve never had any problems with them. They are authorized Elta dealers so you’re going to get the genuine product. They have sales and the occasional site wide discounts. Shipping is fast and they have free returns. They also accept PayPal if you don’t want them having your actual credit card info. Their prices are competitive with Skinstore and Lovely Skin.

Hi Eileen,
Thanks so much for the info! I‘ve been looking for an alternative place to get the Elta MD sunscreen since it’s not always easy to go to my dermatologist’s office to buy the product. Hope you had a great weekend.

Love your mantra! Women are tough creatures. The article on storing perfume in the fridge confirms what I thought. I keep my unopened bottle of expensive perfume in the fridge until I’m finished with the old bottle. That salmon meal looks delicious and healthy!

Mmmmmm super into basil right meow. If you need fun, distracting online shopping check out The Edge of Urge in Raleigh, NC. I found their website via Virtue shampoo via Sephora. Anyway I’m making a list of funky earrings I want. Good Luck, you are BRAVE and TUFF!

I saw this online – a set of questions to help make schooli f decision. It partners with a respected economics professor who is an bestseller author (actually you might find her book ‘Cribsheet’ interesting – she looks at large scale dataset on children’s wellbeing, busting parenting myths etc).

I’m with you on the pasta, 100%! I could happily eat it for every meal. 🙂 OMG, thank you for that Blessed dance video. I forwarded it to my friends so they could die laughing, picturing me trying to do that. It’s nice to bring joy to others. HAHA!

Believe it or not I made the pasta again last night, and I found out it’s even better when you douse it in MORE freshly grated parm.
