August 1st, 2020 by Karen 6 Comments

hello saturday
What’s up, Caturday?

Greetings, fellow feline and fun-filled weekend enthusiast! Our two artists-in-residence send their regards.

While the girls decorate this piece of paper, I plan to decorate…my face with winged liner and a bright lipstick.

Why?

Answer: why not? But seriously, I don’t have anything profoundly exciting planned. I’m just taking Connor to her dance studio for the first time in months because she has a solo dance recital, and that’s all the excuse I need to get a little gussied up… At the very least, I can brush up my brows! 😁

The dance studio moved most of their classes online, but they do a couple things outdoors in their parking lot, and we’re going today so Connor’s dance teacher can record her and a couple other socially distanced students while they do the routine they would’ve performed on stage at our local civic center for the spring recital.

I still can’t believe how much things have changed… At last year’s spring recital, there must have been a hundred kids and 300 parents, everyone jammed into a performance hall, and all the kids and parents got ready in a big room backstage adjusting costumes, soothing nerves and, ya know, breathing the same air in close proximity.

Leapin’ into these crazy times!

I know this is all temporary, but you know how it is. I get a little down sometimes when I think about it… I’ll keep hangin’ in there if you do.

I’ve been informed by the local ballet authorities that this type of jump is called a jeté.

What are you up to today? Got a few minutes for some Saturday surfing?

  • This article in The New Yorker about rethinking the science of skin is a long read, but it has forever changed how I view the bar of Dove soap in my shower.
  • What is Hypochlorous Acid, and what can it do for you?
  • Thanks to the pandemic (uh…), women are growing out their chin hair (and other bodily hair).
  • How often should you be washing your hair?
  • This polish by Nails Inc dries in 45 seconds, and it’s supposed to be the world’s fastest drying nail polish. How do you feel about pink eyeshadow? — ’cause it’s gonna be all over Chanel this fall.
  • 10 budget-friendly perfumes that smell way more expensive than they are…
  • How to “blind buy” a new signature perfume without ever smelling it…
  • Long-lasting grapefruit perfumes for the citrus enthusiasts out there…

This was refreshing.

Love it

Because it never hurts to learn something new

Stretching changes everything! I’m going to try this.

This dude needs to come over to my house and do my hair every day.

This made me tear up.

Have a great rest of your weekend. I hope you’re able to do something relaxing and fun. 😊

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oh sister, I’m having big pandemic sadness today.
Sometimes it feels like we’re never going to get back to the before times.
And the things I’m missing most are such first world things like shopping.
I’m sorry Connor is having her performance in a parking lot.
I’d love to see a clip of it!

Throwback—my first dance recital was Rhinestone Cowboy by Glenn Campbell! I’m so middle-aged!

I love the photo of Rosie helping Connor draw! Those two! It looks like Rosie is a good companion for Connor.
Just yesterday I was texting Dear Daughter and told her how I was anxious and angry at the same time. I could go on, but it would be a novelette before I got it all out. Lol.
I thought of you this past Tuesday as Dear Husband and I drove up to Stinson Beach and Mt. Tam to spend the day exploring for our anniversary. We had dinner on the veranda at Murray Circle. It was a rare good day.

Oh and BTW, I am not letting my facial hair grow. I’m letting my brows fill in but that’s it. Still getting rid of the peach fuzz and the post menopause whiskers on my chin. Because even though I mostly stay home, I still live with Dear Husband and I don’t want him to think I’ve totally given up.

I am so glad the dance studio is able to do something for the kids! I am a performer myself (theater, improv, sometimes singing when I have the courage lol) and I miss being on stage SO MUCH! This solo recital will certainly be something she will always treasure.
I have had my ups and downs this week. Job hunting has just become increasling more frustrating so I decided to go back to school again. I am going to do Graphic design at my local community college. At least with classes I feel like I have some control over something.

Yup, gonna start treating my skin, and my self in general, with more reverence.
Any kind of dance performance is a great experience and Connor Claire will have unique memories of this time in her life. I distinctly remember doing jetés and grand jetés when I was 5, two dancers at a time past a chair upon which a large stuffed animal rabbit was perched, over egg cartons. That was 44 years ago!
Hope she got some flowers after her performance; you must be a happy & proud Ma!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
