I don’t know about you, but today I need civil discourse, and I promise I won’t interrupt you. What’s your go-to fall beauty item? Is it a dark lipstick? Your favorite cream shadow for smokey lids? A particularly vampy nail polish? A regal, rich perfume?
For me, it’s a dark lipstick… Actually, all of the dark lipsticks! Berry, brown, red. Even though I mostly only wear them around the house these days, I still love a good fall lip color.
How about you? What’s your go-to fall beauty item?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

This time of year I like dark purple, red, and grey nail polish. Also lipsticks in deep reds and berry’s. If I decide to go to the hair salon I’ll go a little darker with my hair color too! It’s kind of an ashy brown but I was getting it highlighted before COVID and I think this is a good time to grow it out!

My fall go-to items are all about more moisture! I usually trot out the heavier face lotions/creams and the lip masks and balms. It’s not quite as bad as winter, but the change of season seems to suck all the moisture out of my skin.

Love a berry lip color, but can’t get through fall without some deeeeeeep nail polish shades, looking at you Lincoln park after dark.

My fall go-to is fragrance. I like to wear heavier scents starting in fall, like my favorite Aromatics by Clinique, and I really like Bath & Bodyworks Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte body mist, which reminds me of fall. I also like the lighter berry colors for blush and lips – I cannot get away with the dark colors, but I love them on everyone else.

I adore an a matte brown smoky eye in the fall. My favourite combo is MAC’s Cork plus Swiss Chocolate and Brun. I pair this with a subtle cheek and a nude lip, usually MAC’s Powder Kiss lipstick in either Sultry Move or Mull it Over.

Oh God I hope your politics get less crazy soon, ours are also cray cray.
For me Autumn is all about deep colors and hydration, so for me a tinted plum balm is the way to go.

Have you watched The Social Dilemma on Netflix yet? It’s a documentary that talks about social media and how it’s changed our lives in the last few years, and one of the points it discusses is how social media has affected society and politics (and allowed crazier behavior to prevail). If you haven’t watched it yet, try to when you have a chance!

Hm…I never changed my makeup in the fall, not even when I lived on the east coast. Actually, the first thing that sprang to mind was switching my daily moisturizer to Weleda Skin Food. It’s too thick to use in Honolulu but I’m about to experience Byredo makeup multi sticks so maybe that will be my go-to this fall?
You probably know of Byredo fragrances. They came out with limited edition makeup in collaboration with MUA Ismaya French and for some reason, I was compelled to purchase the multi sticks. They mostly sold out within hours but I was able to grab a translucent gold for glossy lids/highlighter, “Vienna” (hat tip to hubby), and a metallic, dusty purple-plum called “Mesolithic.” I think they’ll be great fall accoutrements on eyes, lips, cheeks.
Karen says
Gotta love Byredo (Gypsy Water is life). Can’t wait to hear about your new sticks. The plummy purple sounds like something I would want to wear every day!

Dark lipstick is a year round thing for me, lol. But it’s nice when it feels seasonally appropriate! I guess one thing I start doing in the fall is, like others have said, ramping up the moisture. I start using a weekly hydrating sleep masks by Origins or Burt’s Bees. Once winter hits, I start doing this twice a week!

PS Stunning look, Karen!
Karen says
Thank you, Sharon!

A dark, vampy pedicure!
Karen says
Yes! A total fall must!

My two fall changes are going a little heavier in the hydration department and switching to a fall-ish perfume. I’ll probably rotate Replica’s Coffee Break and Nest’s Cocoa Woods this time around.
Karen says
Cocoa Woods sounds like a delicious coffee drink! LOL. I’d order it at Starbucks if they had it available. 🙂

Autumn!! My favorite season of the year. Well it used to be when it actually got cool in the fall and we didn’t have fires everywhere. Sigh.
I love dark, vampy nail polish. Looking for a good indie dupe of Chanel Rouge Noire or Chanel Vamp. Something with some staying power on my nails and maybe a tad bit of shimmer, too!
I also go for richer, deeper scents in cooler weather. Guerlain Mitsouko and other classics.
Love the love you have going on in the photo. Is that MAC Prunella all over the lids? Or something more elaborate?
Karen says
You called it! Just MAC Prunella. 🙂
Nikki Wogoman says
I actually don’t have one! I’ve never been the type to designate any particular beauty item to just one season-if it suits the look I’m going for at any given time, I’ll wear it any time of year.
Karen says
Cool! Always a good thing to use your faves year-round. 🙂

I have a cranberry lipstick ? I love to break out but mask ? wearing is wrecking it for me !

My go to for Autumn was a sheer (yet very pigmented) Max Factor lipstick in Burgundy, I forget the number but I have had that lipstick since I was 14 (so 24 years now) and it has started to get patchy, I think it may be time to retire the little stub that is left.
I think my go to for this Autumn will be a deeper shade of red on the lips, black eye liner and a richly scented perfume (pretty much the same as any other time of year).
Anne says
Dark, preferably burgundy nail polish.
