So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of five more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a good start. 🌻
1. Have you ever been stuck in an elevator?
Thank god, no! The closest I’ve ever come to being stuck in one was about 15 years ago when my friend and I were on an elevator going up to the Nordstrom store in San Francisco. The elevators were slow and took a while, so when we got to our floor, there was a moment when the elevator seemed to be stuck. The doors just sat there, closed, a few beats too long.
I started to borderline panic and hyperventilate…which is when my friend calmly hit the “open” button and I ran out. 🙄
2. The first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “perm”?
“Oh, hell no!”
3. What is the best type of pasta shape and why?
I’m having a hard time choosing between bow tie and linguine. I like bow tie because they’re cute…and they fill with sauce well. Plus, they’re easy to eat.
Linguine, however, is so much fun to twirl…
Tough decision…
Bow tie, I guess. 😂
4. How are you in a crisis?
I’m probably not the first person you want to call, hahaha! If push came to shove and I were the only person around, I’d be able to handle it eventually.
5. Would you rather be tiny like a fairy or massive like a T-rex?
I wanna be a T-rex! 🦖
6. Would you rather wear leg warmers or lace fingerless gloves?
Leg warmers, preferably rainbow striped ones like my friend Karrie had in elementary school. I was always terribly jealous of hers.
7. Carved out brows or faux freckles?
Faux freckles, why not?
8. Blazer or a trench coat?
Blazer, because trench coats remind me of flashers, haha.
9. Candy?
Yeah, man!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

P.P.S. Hi there, beautiful girl! Chin up, it’s spring, and there’s a lot to be grateful for today. Just wanted to let you know that I think you’re wonderful. 🤗
1. Have you ever been stuck in an elevator?
Indeed, I have. I was descending from the 45th floor when a cable broke. The elevator jerked and I heard the cable falling down and landing on the top of the elevator. Luckily I knew that modern elevators have back-up cables so I just hung out calmly for a while, figuring if nothing happened after about 15 minutes, I’d ring the alarm bell. After a few minutes the doors opened and I found I was on the ground floor. Apparently the elevator was moving so slowly and smoothly to get me down that I didn’t even notice the motion.
2. The first thing that come to mind when you hear the word “perm”?
Air perms when big hair was the thing
3. What is the best type of pasta shape and why?
Someone on NPR this morning talked about a new shape he had just invented. Apparently this is the new holy grail
4. How are you in a crisis?
Depends on the type of crisis it is. Stuck elevator, no problem. Losing my wallet? Total panic
5. Would you rather be tiny like a fairy or massive like a T-rex?
Fairy. No question.
6. Would you rather wear leg warmers or lace fingerless gloves?
Since I’m almost always cold, leg warmers
7. Carved out brows or faux freckles?
I have real freckles so I guess I’ll have to go with the brows
8. Blazer or a trench coat?
Either. Or both if it’s cold.
9. Candy?
As Koko the Gorilla so brilliantly put it, “Candy. Give me.”
Koko the Gorilla clearly knew what was up. 🙂
1. Have you ever been stuck in an elevator? No, thank goodness. I would probably have a panic attack.
2. The first thing that come to mind when you hear the word “perm”? Just NO!
3. What is the best type of pasta shape and why? All of them! But I like short bite sized pasta like penne, conchiglie, rigatoni and orecchiette the best.
4. How are you in a crisis? Depends on the crisis.
5. Would you rather be tiny like a fairy or massive like a T-rex? T-rex!
6. Would you rather wear leg warmers or lace fingerless gloves? Leg warmers?
7. Carved out brows or faux freckles? Neither. I like natural brows and I have real freckles.
8. Blazer or a trench coat? Depends on the weather. But as a fashion statement I like them both.
9. Candy? Yes, please. Preferably chocolate or French salted butter caramels. Or coffee drops, or mango chews, or sour gummies, or anything Haribo or Jelly Belly. I really have to watch my sweet tooth or it can take a toll on my health.
I have peach Haribo rings in my cupboard right now! 🙂
Happy Monday to you/
Ok, I’ll be right over to eat those for you! Lol!
Hope you’re having a great Monday! Looks like we’re going to have a sunny week with warming weather.
I would happily share them! They’ve been one of my favorites since college.
Dan Pashman’s pasta, cascatelli. That’s the new one he just invented that checks all the boxes.
I just looked it up! It kinda freaks me out!
1. Have you ever been stuck in an elevator?
No, thank goodness.
2. The first thing that come to mind when you hear the word “perm”?
Horrible flash-backs.
3. What is the best type of pasta shape and why?
Cavatappi is my favorite, because it’s fun and holds the sauce really well.
4. How are you in a crisis?
I’m really good in a crisis. It’s afterward that I fall apart.
5. Would you rather be tiny like a fairy or massive like a T-rex?
Tiny, so that I could find things out without being detected.
6. Would you rather wear leg warmers or lace fingerless gloves?
I’m going to have to go with gloves, because those leg warmers are just too hot for a middle-aged woman like me. ~fans self~
7. Carved out brows or faux freckles?
Faux freckles.
8. Blazer or a trench coat?
Blazer. Let’s just go full-on 1980’s Dynasty mode!
9. Candy?
Yes, please. Cadbury mini eggs sound delicious.
Yes please to all the Easter chocolate! Have a great week, Suzanne!
1. Have you ever been stuck in an elevator? Yes- at a hotel in Toronto. It was raining and we forgot an umbrella. My dad threw an umbrella to us just as the doors were closing. The elevator started to move and then just stopped. Luckily we didn’t have to wait too long for them to fix it.
2. The first thing that come to mind when you hear the word “perm”? “Sophomore year of high school” and “never again”.
3. What is the best type of pasta shape and why? Penne. It’s easy to grab with a fork. Bowtie is a close second.
4. How are you in a crisis? Not well, lol.
5. Would you rather be tiny like a fairy or massive like a T-rex? Tiny like a fairy because you can move around quickly.
6. Would you rather wear leg warmers or lace fingerless gloves? Leg warmers.
7. Carved out brows or faux freckles? Freckles
8. Blazer or a trench coat? Trench
9. Candy? Yes, please!
Hi, Danielle! I hope that you’re doing well today. Is it still snowing out your way?
Hi, Karen! Hope you’re doing well also! No snow, but we’re supposed to have rain this week.
Having rain is always a good a thing! We could use more here in the Bay Area.
I’m doing OK. It’s a little warmer this week and the sun is out so I can’t complain. 🙂
1. Have you ever been stuck in an elevator?
No, thank goodness.
2. The first thing that come to mind when you hear the word “perm”?
Dried, fried and oversized ’80s hair.
3. What is the best type of pasta shape and why?
Let’s go with bow ties. They’re so natty.
4. How are you in a crisis?
Calm, collected and guaranteed to break down later.
5. Would you rather be tiny like a fairy or massive like a T-rex?
Tiny like a fairy. T-Rex can run but he can’t hide.
6. Would you rather wear leg warmers or lace fingerless gloves?
Lace fingerless gloves. Spring is here.
7. Carved out brows or faux freckles?
Faux freckles. I had freckles as a kid, so they look pretty natural on me.
8. Blazer or a trench coat?
Trench coat a la Inspector Gadget.
9. Candy?
Yes, please!
Love the Inspector Gadget reference, Susan! I watched that show back in the day, lol.
1. Have you ever been stuck in an elevator? A few times, but for only a few minutes each time.
2. The first thing that come to mind when you hear the word “perm”? “I wonder if they’re any better now.”
3. What is the best type of pasta shape and why? It depends on the sauce. Each kind has different properties.
4. How are you in a crisis? I’m actually very good. I grew up with constant crises, so I just handle things. It’s when I’m not in a current crisis that my anxiety disorder rears it’s ugly head in preperation for the next one.
5. Would you rather be tiny like a fairy or massive like a T-rex? Massive like a T-rex. Nobody would eff with me.
6. Would you rather wear leg warmers or lace fingerless gloves? Lace fingerless gloves. Leg warmers always look stupid if you’re not a dancer, but the gloves could be given a goth spin.
7. Carved out brows or faux freckles? I never do either. I have real freckles, so I guess I’ll go with carved out brows.
8. Blazer or a trench coat? Trench. Blazers aren’t always very flattering on me, because I’m busty and very short-waisted.
9. Candy? I love it, but I have to go sugar-free or eat a very small amount.
Good call on the fingerless gloves having a goth spin. I never thought of it that way!
Hope you have a nice week, Rachel.
1. Have you ever been stuck in an elevator? Yes, at my workplace. Even when they got the elevator open, I had to step up about a foot to get out of the elevator.
2. The first thing that come to mind when you hear the word “perm”? Stench. I hate the smell of that stuff.
3. What is the best type of pasta shape and why? Elbow, I guess. It’s what I’m used to in macaroni.
4. How are you in a crisis? Pretty good most of the time. Mostly due to experience. Life has taught me not to expect anything good to happen to me, and to never be too shocked when something bad happens to me.
5. Would you rather be tiny like a fairy or massive like a T-rex? Probably massive, as it would be too easy to be squashed if one were tiny.
6. Would you rather wear leg warmers or lace fingerless gloves? Leg warmers.
7. Carved out brows or faux freckles? Neither. Today’s eyebrows are tomorrow’s “what was I thinking when I did that?”
8. Blazer or a trench coat? Blazers are more useful in my climate, but there are many times when a good waterproof trench coat would be a great thing to have.
9. Candy? Yes, please. My favorite is “Millionaires,” which is pecans and caramel covered with chocolate.
Thanks for filling out the poll, CL. Have a good one!
1. Have you ever been stuck in an elevator?
No, but I was once stuck halfway up the first drop to the Batman roller coaster (it was my first time and, of course, I had to pick an inverted coaster.) This had to happen, of course, after the 20/20 on the Demon (in the same Six Flags park) coaster train getting stuck upside down on a loop. NIGHTMARES. I was crying, shaking , the whole nine yards. the employees were really nice once they got it going (10 minutes later due to a harness not being pulled down) and asked if I wanted to go again but I was (at the tender age of 10) shaking my head adamantly and running off. It later became my favorite coaster.
2. The first thing that come to mind when you hear the word “perm”?
The 90s.
3. What is the best type of pasta shape and why?
I have a hard time choosing between elbows, orecchiette, spaghetti and egg noodles. First off, I just love any pasta that I can put my insane love on cheese or butter-garlic sauces on. Macaroni and cheese, cheese tortellini, 4-cheese ravioli, homemade butter-garlic cheese spaghetti (or egg noodles. yum), orecchiette and cheese….please don’t make me choose a pasta shape. It’s like asking me to pick a favorite cheese.
4. How are you in a crisis?
It really depends on the crisis. I can either be really calm and helpful or the one who makes the situation worse.
5. Would you rather be tiny like a fairy or massive like a T-rex?
A fairy. I’m sorry, there are way too many puns about T-rex’s and I probably have most of them pinned on my Pinterest because I call my nephew T-Rex.
6. Would you rather wear leg warmers or lace fingerless gloves?
Leg warmers. Lace does not make a person’s hands warm.
7. Carved out brows or faux freckles?
Brows.
8. Blazer or a trench coat?
Trench coat.
9. Candy?
No, thank you. I have eaten 5 solid milk chocolate Godiva bunnies in 5 weeks. I am all candied/chocolated out.
Yikes to your roller coaster story!
Hello! I hope all is well; I’m finally getting a chance to check in and have a lot of catching up to do!
1. Have you ever been stuck in an elevator? Yes, but only for a few minutes, and I’m not claustrophobic or anything, so it was fine. I was much more unpleasantly stuck on Splash Mountain for an hour and a half, with a tiny bladder.
2. The first thing that come to mind when you hear the word “perm”? Spiral. Closely followed by “everyone in the late 80s/early 90s”. HAHA!
3. What is the best type of pasta shape and why? I personally love rigatoni because I’m a huge pasta fan and they are hearty, tubular to capture maximum sauce and textured for good mouth-feel. I was going to say “ribbed for her pleasure” but I’ll bet lots of people are too young to remember that phrase. 🙂
4. How are you in a crisis? Depends. I think I’m decent, overall. Unless it’s like a worst-fear-coming-true situation. Then I have trouble thinking straight.
5. Would you rather be tiny like a fairy or massive like a T-rex? This is a fabulous question. I’d love to be able to fly but there are too many predators/danger when you’re tiny. The only downside to T Rex is the tiny arms (and being extinct). I’m going with T Rex, too.
6. Would you rather wear leg warmers or lace fingerless gloves? Leg warmers, and it wouldn’t be the first time wearing them. 🙂
7. Carved out brows or faux freckles? Sadly, I don’t have brows that are lush enough to carve out so I’m forced to choose freckles (I do like the real ones)!
8. Blazer or a trench coat? Trench coat. Keep people guessing. HAHA!
9. Candy? No, thank you. Maybe some kettle chips instead?
I totally got the reference in your answer to number 3. HA!
Re: kettle chips. Like the nerd that I am, I was researching chips (I’ve been looking for the best ones to put in chocolate chip cookies, ha), and I came across this article in the Washington Post about the best chips in the US, and Lay’s Kettle Cooked was the top pick.
I wonder if the kids these days know know about that. My kids know the “I learned it from watching YOU” but only because we’ve said it many times over the years. I don’t think I’ve ever discussed the ribbed with them. HAHA!
I really like those. I also love the Kettle Chips brand – they had a spicy thai flavor that’s been “retired”, and it was soooo good. Our more local brand is Cape Cod and those are tasty as well. When I was a kid, we had Uncle Don’s – I think that’s where my love of kettle cooked began. I just looked at the article and was happy to see Kettle and CC on there. I’d forgotten about Miss Vicki’s. I like them, too. But I can easily pass on classic Lays or any other non-kettle chip. 🙂
