So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of five more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a good start. ?

1. Mango or pineapple?
Oh! — pineapple please, ideally of the fresh variety, perhaps at the breakfast buffet at Duke’s in Hawaii, although I won’t say no to canned. ?
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run?
That would be 13.1 miles in the Nike Women’s Half Marathon, and for the record…I don’t ever need to run that far again, LOL!
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line?
If it rocks your socks off, go for it! I do it every once in a blue moon now but not as often as I used to, partly due to makeup laziness, and partly due to my belief that I’m just better off now when I wear less in that general area.
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes?
My heart says plaid, but my brain says vertical stripes (so slimming!).
5. Rice or pasta?
YES!
6. How does your hair look when you air dry it?
Not bad since I stopped dyeing it, but I gotta prep it before it dries so it looks presentable, so I work in a few blobs of leave-in conditioner, spray a lightweight and flexible spray gel into my bangs, then clip my bangs down so they’ll lie flat.
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with:
No question — Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose! ?
8. What team sports have you played?
None, unfortunately. I wish I would’ve played a team sport when I was growing up because I think I would’ve enjoyed it. Plus, you learn so much about body awareness and important life lessons, like how to win and lose gracefully.
Sports just weren’t valued in my family, though.
9. Are you seeing any signs of spring around your neighborhood?
Yup! The leaves are starting to return on some of the oaks, and the cherry blossoms are finally blooming. Note to self: it’s time to start taking allergy meds again.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

P.P.S. Hi there, sweet girl! Happy International Women’s Day! I hope this Monday brings you plenty of peace, happiness and joy. You’re exactly where you need to be, alright? You’re doing better than you think! ?
Jaclyn says
1. Mango! I love a good mango lassi. Yum.
2. I think 4 miles, lol. Finally realized I hate running not long after!
3. I can usually rock shadow on my lower lash line but I cannot master eyeliner on my lower lash line! Makes my eyes look tiny and ages me.
4. Gingham. As a child of the ’90s I am still over stripes! ?
5. I’m going to have to agreeing with you on this one Karen! Yes!
6. This is my preferred method of drying. Gives me a tad of a wave.
7. The muppets for sure!
8: I played soccer in Middle school. Loved it!
9. Spring is slowly making its way to where I live in a Tennessee valley. Daffodils are starting to show their faces! they line the highways so it’s really fun to see more and more peek out whenever I go past.
Happy Monday!
Karen says
Have a happy Monday, Jaclyn!
Savannah says
1. Mango or pineapple?
Pineapple! I just had a pineapple flavoured sparkling water and it was fantastic. It’ll be perfect for summer!
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run?
I have no clue. I used to be more in shape but since working on my feet and injuring my foot twice and now my knee, that’s something I won’t be able to do for a while.
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line?
I used to go crazy with this. Now I opt for something shimmery and mid tone. Nothing dark or it makes my eyes look tiny.
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes?
Stripes.
5. Rice or pasta?
Pasta
6. How does your hair look when you air dry it?
Fairly decent, but I only wear it up. It gets greasier faster unless I blow dry it.
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with:
Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose
Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte
Big Bird, the Count, Bert and Ernie
The golden girls for sure!
8. What team sports have you played?
As a young child I played soccer. The experience left a foul taste in my mouth. Being ridiculed and bullied by the coach has scarred me from the sport forever. I have zero interest to watch it or participate.
9. Are you seeing any signs of spring around your Neighbourhood?
Yes, actually. Almost all the snow is melted and now there’s just dirt and sand everywhere (yuck). Most likely there will be one more snowfall before spring really sets in. You know what they say! If March starts off like a lamb it’ll end like a lion. Or vice versa. So, we’re not in the clear just yet!
Karen says
Hi Savannah,
I’m sorry to hear about your foot injuries. I’m always looking for supportive shoes (my feet are trashed from years of running), and wanted to pass along a couple brands just in case you haven’t heard of them. Vionic is a company that makes pretty cute shoes, and most of them don’t even look like orthopedic shoes. Hoka One One does running/walking shoes; I tried on a couple pairs recently and they feel like clouds on my feet! Super supportive.
I’m saving for a couple pairs of shoes for spring/summer. Will let you know if I find anything good!
Megan says
1. Mango or pineapple?
Been on a pineapple kick lately.
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run?
No idea but it was probably in high school gym when we were forced to run. Not a runner!
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line?
I keep my lower lashes and lash line clean. I’ve never liked mascara on my lower lashes or liner or shadow on my lower lash line. I admire it on others though!
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes?
Stripes all the way. I probably (definitely) own far too many striped tees.
5. Rice or pasta?
Yes! Yes!
6. How does your hair look when you air dry it?
I have naturally curly/wavy hair and I exclusively air dry (except when I’m in a hurry and I’ll diffuse partially). I get as much moisture out of my hair as I can, apply a smoothing cream, twist random sections and finger comb through once dry. The only downside is it takes my hair quite some time to dry especially at the length it is now.
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with:
Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose-All day every day.
8. What team sports have you played?
I played one season of softball in 4th grade. Wish I had stuck with it a little more as I do think there are a lot of positives for kids. We were/are a big sports family and my older brother played baseball and basketball through high school. So I was mostly a spectator!
9. Are you seeing any signs of spring around neighborhood?
Just this past weekend I noticed the tulip trees, hyacinth and daffodils emerging and it is beautiful and always makes me feel renewed. Bring on spring!
Karen says
Hi Megan,
I have wavy hairtoo and would love to hear about the products that you are currently using and loving!
Megan says
Hi Karen!
I’ve been going to an Aveda salon for years and I’m pretty loyal to the brand (and I love the scents!). Currently I’m using the Smooth Infusion shampoo and conditioner. I use the same line’s nourishing styling creme. I used to avoid the smooth infusion b/c of my curl but my stylist recommended it to help with frizz and I do notice a difference. I also love Aveda’s texture tonic to spray on dry hair to add some body, particularly on 2nd day hair.
Non-Aveda products I love right now are R&Co.’s television perfect conditioner and masque.
Karen says
Oooh, I Aveda makes some solid hair products! I’ve used and loved that Texture Tonic. Have you ever tried anything from the Shampure line? I LOVE how it smells, and I used to use the shampoo/conditioner to remove build up. Works so well and keeping hair from feeling/looking heavy!
Megan says
Oh yes-love shampure. The hand/body wash is great too. They also used to make a shampure candle (maybe they still do?). Makes your house smell like a spa retreat.
Karen says
Ya know, I don’t think I ever used the body wash! I did use the Shampure body oil back in the day and loved it. You know what I miss? Going to the Aveda store, smelling all the things and getting a cup of tea!
Amy says
1. Mango or pineapple?
Fresh pineapple…I even eat the core! Kind of crazy about it.
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run?
8 miles.
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line?
Too much work for a meh result on me, but can look great on others
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes?
Horizontal stripes (think navy and white boat neck shirt, tan and black skirt, etc)
5. Rice or pasta?
Neither, really! But every once in awhile, a pile of angel hair pasta with capers, shrimp, and lemon-garlic sauce speaks to me. Or red sauce with tons of cheese.
6. How does your hair look when you air dry it?
Perfectly fine! I go for cuts specifically made to air dry. If I use a few products and fluff things up as it dries, looks great.
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with:
Sesame street, no question!
8. What team sports have you played?
a. Softball (the Skyhawks, we lost nearly every game and my keenest memory is the taste of clover stems while standing in the outfield)
b. Volleyball (sadistic coach, I quit)
c. Water ballet (loved it, much more difficult than it looks)
d. Ultimate frisbee (very fun)
9. Are you seeing any signs of spring around neighborhood?
Tiny buds beginning to sprout in the ground! The hedgerow is beginning to chirp and bustle a little more. Mostly it’s in the air–that fresh spring smell.
Happy week, Karen and all!
Karen says
Hi Amy,
When I was pregnant with Connor, I ate SO MUCH PINEAPPLE. Crazy amounts of it. Anywho, have you ever heard pink pineapple? It’s totally a thing!
Amy says
No! I will def look up pink pineapple!!
Karen says
They’re supposed to be sweeter than an average pineapple (I can’t believe that’s even possible) and literally pink on the inside! I’ve seen friends send them as gifts, but have yet to see them in stores.
Syahidah says
1. Mango, for sure.
2. The farthest I’ve ever ran is running away from toxic people in my life. ?
3. I like it, a very light line though.
4. Florals please hehehe
5. YES.
6. Been on CGM for over a year now, my hair looks great air-dried.
7. Sesame Street for sure. I love the neighborly camaraderie.
8. Dodgeball like once in high school LOL.
9. Yes. Sunshine, flowers and spring air.
Karen says
LOL to your answer to question no. 2!
Danielle says
1. Mango or pineapple? I like both, but prefer mango. Pineapple makes my mouth sting a little if I eat too much of it.
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run? The mile in gym class.
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line? I don’t like it on me because the color always gets underneath my eyes and it makes my raccoon eyes (dark circles) worse than they are.
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes? Stipes, but if they’re thin and blended more.
5. Rice or pasta? Both, but I eat more pasta
6. How does your hair look when you air dry it? Wavy and frizzy if I don’t put any product in.
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with:
Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose
Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte
Big Bird, the Count, Bert and Ernie
Oh wow, this is tough! Probably Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte.
8. What team sports have you played? None, but soccer was big growing up in my family. I would play badminton with friends and family.
9. Are you seeing any signs of spring around neighborhood? Yes- my allergies/sinuses are starting to act up. There are some trees that are beginning to change in my area.
P.P.S. Happy International Women’s Day to you as well!
Karen says
Thanks, Danielle. I hope Monday has been kind to you!
Suzanne C says
1. Mango or pineapple?
Both! I love a tropical fruit salad!
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run?
I don’t do running. I love a good walk, though.
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line?
I’m doing good to do either on my upper lash line. Lower is not happening, lol.
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes?
I like all three, but my Southern heart has to say gingham, preferably in seersucker.
5. Rice or pasta?
Pasta, since I love Italian food. (But I’m a rice fan, too. Risotto has my whole heart.?)
6. How does your hair look when you air dry it?
Wavy, if I use a bit of mousse and scrunch it as it dries.
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with:
Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose, ftw!
8. What team sports have you played?
Does watching baseball count? ?
9. Are you seeing any signs of spring around neighborhood?
Yes, things really started kicking off this weekend. The azaleas are starting to bloom and a dusting of pollen is all over everything. I start taking my allergy medicine in mid-February because our section of Florida is the allergy capital of the state, but I’m still a little sneezy today.
Karen says
Wow, you guys get your azaleas so early! I usually see the ones in the neighborhood around May!
Hope you’re having a nice Monday so far, Suzanne. 🙂
Tatiana says
1. Mango or pineapple? Mango
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run? No idea. Guessing around 4 miles.
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line? I love it on others, it just looks weird on me. Plus the times I do attempt it Dear Husband always says, “Did you do something different with your makeup? I don’t like it. Your eyes don’t look good.”
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes? Plaid or stripes.
5. Rice or pasta? Both!!!!
6. How does your hair look when you air dry it? A little messy, a little bed head.
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with:
Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose
8. What team sports have you played? Played basketball in elementary school. I basically sat on the bench and got ridiculed and bullied by other players and the coach. Then did nothing until I rode in a drill team with my daughter until the head trainer switched up which horse I rode.
9. Are you seeing any signs of spring around neighborhood? Yes. Magnolia trees are all in bloom and daffodils are popping up everywhere.
Karen says
Can’t wait to see the magnolias! I’m the weirdo in the neighborhood taking pics of all the trees, haha!
Tatiana says
Went for a long walk with Dear Husband on Saturday. My phone is loaded with pictures of magnolia, cherry and plum trees all in bloom. And other assorted plants that I cannot put a name to.
So you’re not the only one taking pics of all the trees. I don’t think it’s weird.
Karen says
Glad to know I’m not the only one!
Melissa says
1. Mango or pineapple? Either is fine unless it’s pineapple in Hawaii. The pineapple there is just freakin amazing!
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run? 6 miles
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line? Nope – always seems to smudge
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes? Striped though I love gingham for summer
5. Rice or pasta? Pasta all the way
6. How does your hair look when you air dry it? Not bad – as long as I put a little styling cream in it
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with:
Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose
Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte
Big Bird, the Count, Bert and Ernie.
Golden Girls all the way! Then the Sesame Street gang. I would avoid the sex in the city gang like the plague
8. What team sports have you played? Softball, soccer
9. Are you seeing any signs of spring around neighborhood? Snow is melting
Karen says
Have a wonderful week, Melissa!
Eileen says
1. Mango or pineapple? Fresh, juicy, iced cold pineapple spears.
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run? I used to run 5 miles 4-5 times a week.
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line? I like a bit of a dark, slightly luminous shadow smudged just under the lower lashes to create a more cohesive look. I apply it heavier at the outer corner and let it fade away to nothing as I move towards the inner. It seldom extends beyond the middle of the lash line.
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes?I like a good plaid.
5. Rice or pasta? We’re middle eastern so I fix a lot of special rice dishes. When my kids were little, they’d ask if I had started the rice as a way of knowing how much time they had to play before dinner. Although I love pasta, my husband hates it so I only get it when we eat out.
6. How does your hair look when you air dry it? I always let my long hair air dry.
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with: The Golden Girls rule! Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose were opinionated, humorous, alive.
8. What team sports have you played? Back in the day, PE involved mainly team sports. We’d change sports every two-three weeks. My favorites were basketball and soccer. Outside of school, I favored individual sports like snow and water skiing, tennis, backpacking, and jogging.
9. Are you seeing any signs of spring around neighborhood? My clogged sinuses and watery eyes say spring has sprung! Lol
Eileen says
I forgot to mention horseback riding. I guess because the entire family rides, I never really thought of it as a sport.
Karen says
Have a great rest of your week, Eileen! Always nice to see you here.
CL says
1. Mango or pineapple? Pineapple.
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run? Probably a quarter mile. Running on a rock-hard dirt track when I was 11 years old made me have Achilles tendon pain for a solid year. Yay junior high phys ed!
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line? Against. It makes eyes look smaller and it’s a potential eye safety problem.
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes? Stripes, but only vertical.
5. Rice or pasta? Pasta. Believe it or not, rice often has tiny amounts of arsenic in it, and that is a cumulative poison (also a carcinogen) in one’s system. Texas-grown rice has more arsenic than other regions, I’ve read. It’s legal, though.
6. How does your hair look when you air dry it? Okay.
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with:
Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose
Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte
Big Bird, the Count, Bert and Ernie
Sorry, none are appealing to me. I like the old question, “who would you have dinner with from any time period?” For me, that would start with Mark Twain, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, George Stubbs (English painter), and Emily Dickinson, among many others.
8. What team sports have you played? I had to play basketball, baseball, and volleyball in gym classes, but never played against another school or anything like that.
9. Are you seeing any signs of spring around neighborhood? Yes, some of my Ice Follies daffodils just bloomed. However, there’s a LOT of dead or heavily damaged shrubs in my area due to the Great Canadian Snow Storm of February. These include ligustrum, oleander, indian hawthorn, and pampas grass. It might also have killed the crepe myrtles – we won’t know until the end of March, as they are always the last thing to start growing in this area.
Karen says
Hang in there, CL! Have a good week.
CC says
1. Mango or pineapple?
Mango, but I love pineapple so much too.
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run?
A 3K. Don’t enjoy running.
Love hiking.
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line?
I like it.
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes?
Stropes
5. Rice or pasta?
Both

Fluffy and full
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with:
Golden Girls
8. What team sports have you played?
None

Snow melting & birds chirping.

Thanks for filling out the poll today, CC!
Jennifer Emmett says
1. Mango or pineapple? Pineapple in dessert, on pizza, fresh….
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run? A half marathon long ago.
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line? I like it/get it on YouTube tutorials but feel like it looks bad on me.
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes? Plaid lumberjack shirts forever!
5. Rice or pasta? Brown rice..
6. How does your hair look when you air dry it? A lil flat but good enough.
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with:
Big Bird, the Count, Bert and Ernie sound like a hoot! We gonna talk some trash about Oscar.
8. What team sports have you played? Does Trivia count?
9. Are you seeing any signs of spring around neighborhood? Birds! It’s like someone flipped a switch and they are here and they are chirpy!
Karen says
Haha about the Sesame Street crew taking trash about Oscar! 🙂
Ewa says
1. Mango or pineapple?
I hate to have to pick as I live both, but I’m gonna go with mango. With chili and lime.
2. What’s the farthest you’ve ever run?
No idea, haven’t run for sport in a long time. It really is torture.
3. Your thoughts on shadow/liner on the lower lash line?
For myself, no liner, too harsh and makes my eyes look smaller. Shadow is cool tho.
4. Plaid, gingham or stripes?
All of them!
5. Rice or pasta?
I like both, but pasta if you hold a gun to my head.
6. How does your hair look when you air dry it?
Fine, that’s what I always do. I don’t have the patience to blow dry my curly hair.
7. Pick one gang/crew to hang out with:
Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose
Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte
Big Bird, the Count, Bert and Ernie
The Golden Girls all day, errry day!
8. What team sports have you played?
Absolutely none.
9. Are you seeing any signs of spring around neighborhood?
Yes! Plum and apple blossoms, daffodils, birds chirping…the works!
Karen says
Gotta love hearing all the spring birds chirping! Makes me feel like I’m in a Disney movie. 🙂 Have a great rest of your week, Ewa.
