Makeup and Beauty Blog Monday Poll, Vol. 615

February 24th, 2020 by Karen 23 Comments

So…what is the Monday Poll?

Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of five more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a good start.

    1. Last lipstick you wore?

Deep neutral MAC Yash. Somebody should probably take it away from me before it becomes permanently attached to my body.

    2. If aliens were to land on earth, my first thought would be…

    TOLD YA SO! ???

    3. Your bed size?

A California king, which we’ve had since before we were married and purchased because El Hub dances the rhumba in his sleep, meaning that he tosses and turns like a salad! I swear, sleeping next to that man is like riding in a car with no shocks on a road riddled with potholes (sorry, babe!).

I wanted the biggest bed we could find, so a Cal king it was (plus, I remember it was on sale at Walmart).

If I could turn back time, I would have gotten a regular king bed instead, though, because it can be tough to find sheets and accoutrements for Cal king beds.

    4. Who taught you how to manage your finances?

Well, I’m not an expert by any means, but mostly Google, which is kind of ironic considering that both my parents were accountants. *shrugs*

    5. I can’t even tell you how much I love (FILL IN THE BLANK).

    • The smell of babies ?
    • Sleeping in
    • Clean floors!
    • This song by David Bowie, which I heard at Trader Joe’s when I was shopping last Friday and have consequently listened to about 237 times since.

    Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

    Karen

P.S. Here are the questions to copy/paste with your answers in a comment. Talk to ya soon.

    1. Last lipstick you wore?
    2. If aliens were to land on earth, my first thought would be…
    3. Your bed size?

Happy Monday, my friend! I hope you have a warm, sunny day today. 🙂

    1. Last lipstick you wore? Kind of a brownish pink (of course) from an Aerin Beauty Weekday palette.
    2. If aliens were to land on earth, my first thought would be… Are you a good witch or a bad witch?
    3. Your bed size? King. Same here with the floppy spouse. I often ask “why can’t you just stay still?”. Plus, he’s 6’4″ so he’s taking up quite a bit of space to begin with.
    4. Who taught you how to manage your finances? Shaming from the Hubs while he was still the bf. It was just a throw-away comment that he barely remembers but it devastated me (you don’t even have a savings account!).
    5. I can’t even tell you how much I love (FILL IN THE BLANK). My boys. My friends. Sleep. Pizza. Pasta.

My lasting memory of Modern Love was when my best friend’s brother-in-law was driving us home after sports practice in high school. It came on the radio and she and I sang it in a monotone, droning way. I can’t remember why we started that, but it drove him completely insane and he was ready to choke us (but laughing at how dumb we were being by the end). We kept it up for the whole song. Now, every time I hear it, I immediately think of that and laugh all over again.

    1. What’s the last lipstick you wore?
    – MAC make me proud patent polish. It irritates and dries out my lips (I can’t comfortably put anything with beeswax on them) but it’s like the nicest pink ever! Sometimes the outfit and other makeup demand it and I make the sacrifice.
    2. If aliens were to land on earth, my first thought would be…
Pfft. Great. Just when my life was getting its sh*t together and life was actually good!
    3. Your bed size?
    Queen!
    4. Who taught you how to manage your finances?
Nobody. My parents are terrible with money. I’m terrified of debt and have been very careful to avoid it and always have some extra money saved up for an emergency.
    5. I can’t even tell you how much I love (FILL IN THE BLANK).
    – my handsome, sweet fiancé
    – my adorable puppies
    – sleeping in!
    – a good fantasy book with tea and chocolate first thing in the morning
-fresh mozzarella on a lightly toasted slice of baguette. Even just plain it’s delicious but you can top it up any which way, sweet like a dessert or savoury.

Re: fresh mozzarella on a baguette. Don’t you love it when the baguette is super fresh, too, so when you bite into it, you get that slight toasty crunch just before the you hit the soft, pillowy, dough inside?! I’ll take mine with olive oil, basil, fresh early girl tomatoes and sea salt, please!

Armani Lip Maestro 207, it’s been my go to for months. It’s a nice deep plum that sheers out beautifully.
    2. If aliens were to land on earth, my first thought would be…
    Yep…??‍♀️
    3. Your bed size?
    Queen
    4. Who taught you how to manage your finances?
Myself, using whatever free resources. Definitely could use more direction.
    5. I can’t even tell you how much I love

    3. Your bed size? Medium, but longer than normal as I’m 6’1
    4. Who taught you how to manage your finances? I’m a banker, but for the last couple of years I read many blogs and listened to podcasts to be able to manage my personal finances better. Giving myself a budget really works!

    1. Last lipstick you wore?

Probably Revlon in Goldpearl Plum which I think is discontinued.

    2. If aliens were to land on earth, my first thought would be…

    That seems about right.

    3. Your bed size?

King. I’m the one who moves in my sleep – I also get night terrors. I’m basically the worst bed partner, plus Hettie sleeps with us and she’s 65 lbs and a bed hog.

    4. Who taught you how to manage your finances?

    No one really.

    5. I can’t even tell you how much I love (FILL IN THE BLANK).

    Lindt chocolate bunnies

    1. Last lipstick you wore? Yesterday it was Chanel’s Rouge Allure in Délicieux.

    2. If aliens were to land on earth, my first thought would be…Yes!

    3. Your bed size? It’s a Cal King. I don’t have any problems finding bedding to fit, it’s just that it is so expensive when compared to smaller sizes like the Queens that are in all the other bedrooms.

    4. Who taught you how to manage your finances? My mom and my grandparents. I had good, solid, prudent financial roll models growing up. They experienced major financial events such as World War I rationing, the Great Depression, World War II rationing, as well as all the other financial ups and downs that the decades have brought. It was a simple life predicated on hard work, setting goals, prioritizing expenditures, making the most of what they had so they could save for what they needed or wanted, and —as they acquired a certain degree of wealth—making wise, diversified investments. This was life long before credit/debit cards, pay day advances, ubiquitous bank loans, car loans, etc. it was a different era.

    5. I can’t even tell you how much I love (FILL IN THE BLANK).
So many things! My family, waking up to the sights and sounds of nature, being retired ? . . .

    4. Who taught you how to manage your finances?
Mom taught me the basics, like how to write a check and balance my checkbook. But as for budgeting, paying off debt, etc., I learned most of that from finance blogs and Dave Ramsey.

    5. I can’t even tell you how much I love…
Farro and roasted butternut squash salad w/ lemon-Dijon dressing, the good-book-roll that I’ve been on, and the fact that it’s almost time to plant All. The. Plants.
