So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of five more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a good start.
- First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser
- Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Cream
- Kate Somerville Anti Bac Clearing Lotion
1. How often do you exfoliate your face?
I try to do a gentle physical exfoliation daily with a washcloth and a cleanser in the morning, and then two or three times a week I’ll use a retinol-containing product at night.
2. What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single skin care product?
It was on Skinceuticals C + E Ferulic Serum…which is $166 a pop for a teeny, tiny bottle.
So pricey, but it worked, especially on areas of inconsistent pigmentation. I haven’t used it in ages because of the price, though. I’ve been trying to find a less expensive alternative (saving for the Coywolf’s college and the house remodel got me all ?), but I’ve yet to find something comparable.
I might go back to it eventually…maybe after Connor graduates from grad school?!
3. Your top three skin care concerns right now?
Pigmentation, pimples and fine lines.
Those are my top three, but can I add a fourth? — ’cause if I can, dryness is also plaguing me at the moment.
4. List three skin care products you put on your face this morning.
5. Your best skin care advice?
Leave the pimple alone, girlfriend. The less you futz with it, the better off you’ll be!
❤️❤️❤️Just a friendly reminder ❤️❤️❤️
Hiya, friend. Good morning. I’m so happy to see you today. ? This week, BTW, is going to be a good — no, a great one!
I just realized that as of September (which is only two weeks away), we only have four more months till 2020.
Wow!
That’s crazy to me… This seems like a good time to consider how we’re going to wrap up 2019. If you’re exactly where you want to be in terms of your goals and wishes, that’s amazing! Give yourself a big hug and keep on keepin’ on. In my case, I still feel like I have a lot to accomplish before the year’s end, so every day this week, I’m going to chip away at just one of those things at a time.
My thing this week is clearing out a closet which has become a disorganized catch-all for everything, and I cannot — I JUST CAN’T — move into 2020 with it the way it is. So, every day this week, I’m going to spend 20 minutes cleaning and clearing it out.
I’ve been avoiding it for years, but it’s finally time, ya know?
How about you? What would you like to achieve before the end of 2019?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

1. How often do you exfoliate your face? It’s a very mild daily exfoliation for me. “Slow and steady wins the race.” In the morning I use Tatcha’s rice powder in the gentle or sensitive formula depending on how my skin’s been doing. Both formulas provide a gentle exfoliation suitable for dry/sensitive skin. In the evening I remove my makeup with Tatcha cleansing oil. After emulsifying it and rinsing it off with warm water, I go over my face with a clean wash cloth which has been rung out in warm water. The cloth removes any residual oil and provides a light exfoliation. No double cleansing; no scrubbing. I treat my skin gently because 4-5 times a week I use my prescription strength retinoic acid. That’s the anti-aging big gun.
2. What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single skin care product? I love La Mer and Sisley—nuf said! ?
3. Your top three skin care concerns right now? Dryness, redness, pigmentation. My dry, mature (old as dust) skin doesn’t like summer’s heat.
4. List three skin care products you put on your face this morning. La Mer The Treatment (essence), Jack Black Protein Boosting serum mixed with Fresh Seaberry Booster oil, and Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream. Something I always apply no matter what other skin care I’m using—Jack Black SPF 45 sunscreen.
5. Your best skin care advice? Is this a question that even still needs asking? Wear sunscreen every single day come rain or shine.
Kate says

Hyperpigmentation, fine lines under my eyes, dullness
4. List three skin care products you put on your face this morning.
Hyaluronic acid, Vitamin C from The Ordinary, sunscreen (x2 layers)
5. Your best skin care advice?
Gentle cleansing, exfoliate, moisturize and put on sunscreen! Everything else is extra

1. How often do you exfoliate your face? I have a Clarisonic that I used daily. Need all the help I can get
2. What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single skin care product? $70
3. Your top three skin care concerns right now? Pigmentation, lines & texture
4. List three skin care products you put on your face this morning. Theaters witch hazel , beauty counter Countertime serum & eye cream. New natural form of retinol with out all the side affects. Also allergic to retinol so happy this works for me
5. Your best skin care advice? Sunscreen!
Kris says
Hi! You didn’t ask, but I’ll offer my comments about the Dramatically Different moisturizer: that is some Old School technology in there. It contains mineral oil, which most newer, high-end products avoid. That one ingredient could be aggravating your pimple problem. Although I’m not a skin-care professional, I’m OLD and have tried and researched a ton of products over the years, and I ditched the DD moisturizer at least 20 years ago. Love the Drunk Elephant product line FWIW, but there are so many out there that are good…
Jaclyn Levy says
1. When I use a wash cloth in the shower? Does that count?
2. I think $50 but I had a $50 gift card. ?
3. Uneven skin tone, sun damage, chin hairs starting to make themselves known.
4. Sunscreen. The end.
5. And adding my voice to the sunscreen chorus! Overall I think my skin is good and I credit that to wearing sunscreen errrryday.

1. How often do you exfoliate your face?
I do my Sunday Riley Luna/Good Genes combo 3x per week and I use Sugar’s Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash 1x per week. Both are excellent for sensitive skin.
2. What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single skin care product?
I can’t remember how much it ended up being, but it was when I bought my Luna and Good Genes combo pack during the last VIB sale. Worth every penny!!
3. Your top three skin care concerns right now?
Sensitivity to certain product ingredients, fine lines, and a bit of redness in the cheek area. (A new thing I’ve never had and am not sure how to handle yet.)
4. List three skin care products you put on your face this morning.
Nothing. We got back last night from a four day trip and I had to hit the ground running today. Then the city turned off our water to do some work without letting us know beforehand. Three hours later, I still haven’t been able to brush my teeth.
5. Your best skin care advice?
What you do to your skin when you’re young really does affect your skin later in life. So be kind to it. And drink more water.
Girl, girl, girl- decluttering. I’m hearing you and I feel it, too. I’m looking at this insane pile of boxes, stuff that came out of the damaged portions of our house and will soon go back, and I’m thinking “This makes no sense. Some of this Has. To. Go.” The repairs are so close to being done and my heart is feeling lighter. It’s finally time to move forward.

1. How often do you exfoliate your face?
-I aim for once or twice weekly but I usually forget. I use a relatively mild one.
2. What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single skin care product?
-I’ve just started discovering the world of skincare (I’m not seeing much results btw) but I guess this facial cleansing oil that’s $41? Most of the things I’ve tried are around that price point or cheaper.
3. Your top three skin care concerns right now?
-over production of oil, whiteheads on my cheeks and lines around my eyes.
I swear, those whiteheads are the bane of my existence. Any suggestions or products that help clear them? The only thing that removes them is extraction which then leaves a scar for a while.
4. List three skin care products you put on your face this morning.
-I only do skincare at night. I find doing it in the morning under my makeup clogs my pores.
5. Your best skin care advice
– don’t spend so much time in the sun and less is more
Chelsea says
1. How often do you exfoliate your face?
Not super often, my skin does not like exfoliation. I go through with a washcloth once or twice a week.
2. What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single skin care product?
Hmmm. $50 on a face cream? Unless lash serum counts!
3. Your top three skin care concerns right now?
Redness, dehydration, little baby blackheads
4. List three skin care products you put on your face this morning.
La Roche Posay Toleriabe Hydrating Cleanser, Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Cream, MD Solar Sciences SPF 50 Beauty Balm in light/medium
5. Your best skin care advice?
Stop picking at your face! Get lots of sleep, protect yourself from the sun.
Stephanie Smith says
1. How often do you exfoliate your face? Gentle exfoliation twice a day, with a washcloth day and night.
2. What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single skin care product? I don’t remember. It was some kind of cream from I think Estée Lauder. Like 20 years ago. It was nice. But didn’t blow me away.
3. Your top three skin care concerns right now? Dark spots, dullness, and fine lines. I’m 44, it’s normal, but I’ve added a retinol nightly and it’s helped.
4. List three skin care products you put on your face this morning. Micellear water, eye cream, moisturizer with SPF.
5. Your best skin care advice? I have two pieces of advice, use SPF every day, just do it!!! And consistency. Don’t take time off, make the few minutes a day to do your skin care.

1. How often do you exfoliate your face? Everyday with a cleansing balm&washcloth, a Dr. Gross Alpha beta peel pad maybe 1x week
2. What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single skin care product? Hmm, i think Bobbi Brown Extra Hydrating moisturizer balm was $100
3. Your top three skin care concerns right now? Dark sun spot on cheek, dark circles and uneven tone at times
4. List three skin care products you put on your face this morning. Elemis cleansing balm, Josie Maran Aryan moonstone drops and IT cc cream with spf in it (supposedly ha)
5. Your best skin care advice? Don’t overdue products, treat your neck too and what you eat does matter. I did a Perricone plan for a month ( blueberries, wild salmon, greens, sugar minimal) when I was overdoing sugar and wow what it did for my skin wasn’t hype.
ericca says

Jennifer says
1. How often do you exfoliate your face? GRRRRLLL! Are you thinking chemical or manual exfoliation? If it’s manual, I’m way behind on exfoliation. I ran out of Exfolikate and replaced it with a Philosophy scrub, which hasn’t gotten the job done, but it’s okay because my husband really likes to use it in the shower. But, I’m using Sunday Riley’s Good Genes nearly every morning and I think that’s supposed be a chemical exfoliant.
2. What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single skin care product? I want to say off the top of my head $105 for a bottle of aforementioned Good Genes. And it lasts for like a minute. Kidding, but not so much. I would say that’s a two month supply.
3. Your top three skin care concerns right now? Aging, worn out skins. I’m five months from the big Oh No Five O and I can really see it in my flesh. Dry but with an occasional spray of blackheads between my cheekbone and my eye socket, which my derm says are hormone related. I don’t get that because I’m post-menopausal and I was told my ovaries have shrunk to the size of raisins. Supposedly that’s a good thing if you’re my age. Then of course, redness here and there. The wrinkles around my eyes for some reason aren’t bothering me.
4. List three skin care products you put on your face this morning. Cleansed with Philosophy Purity Cleanser, slapped on a coat of Good Genes then topped it a gel moisturizer from Tarte. The moisturizer was a deluxe sample. I didn’t think it would be moisturizing enough but it hasn’t been bad.
5. Your best skin care advice? Drink all the water, eat a big salad every day and get a lot of sleep. If something on your skin looks weird or seems not quite normal, have a dermatologist look at it. One visit is not outrageously expensive and it could save your life.

5. Your best skin care advice. Keep it simple stupid lol? And avoid SD Alcohol and plant fragrance and synthetic fragrance at all costs. No 20 step routines for me. The less the better. And I don’t need to spend a lot to get good skin. I don’t drink or smoke. Sun exposure is limited. I wash my face morning and night. I exfoliate and add moisture when needed. And most guess I’m 20 yrs younger than I am so I must be doing something right:)
