So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of five more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a good start. ?
1. Hot pink eyeshadow or bright blue lipstick?
Hot pink eyeshadow.
2. High or low maintenance?
GUUUURL, high maintenance all the way. I cannot deny it!
3. Have you ever prank-called anyone?
Heck, yeah! Honestly, mine were all super dumb though. They’d usually involve me calling up a boy I liked, then hanging up as soon as someone answered, “Hello.” HA HA HA! I think it was a right of passage if you grew up in the ’80s and ’90s.
4. Sequins or leather?
Although leather would be much more practical, I’m gonna have to go with sequins…because sparkle.
5. What’s your theme for this week?
Embrace change! And eat your veggies. LOL!
BONUS QUESTION: What’s your power song for the week?
…Ready For It?, by Taylor Swift.
Back at it
Morning. ? If you’re just getting back to your desk after a long holiday absence, then welcome, friend! Just remember: It won’t feel this miserable for long, LOL! It’s like the first 10 minutes of a workout. Your knees feel crunchy, and your feet might as well be concrete bricks, and even though every cell in your body is screaming at you to stop the friggin’ jumping jacks, sit back down on the couch, and fire up another episode of Victoria, if you make it through those first 10 minutes of misery…everything will be OK. REALLY! Just keep smiling, and trust in the healing power of coffee.
You have a good one today, ‘K? Talk soon.

3. Have you ever prank-called anyone?
4. Sequins or leather?
5. What’s your theme for the week?
BONUS QUESTION: What’s your power song for the week?
Barb says
1. Hot pink eyeshadow or bright blue lipstick? – I’ll go with the hot pink eyeshadow.
2. High or low maintenance? – Definitely high maintenace! Not gonna deny it.
3. Have you ever prank-called anyone? Yes, definitely! Same as you, calling a cute boy and hanging up. Thank the good lord there was no caller ID in the 80’s and *69 wasn’t really a thing then either.
4. Sequins or leather? I’ll go with sequins.
5. What’s your theme for the week? Just re-joined a gym. My goal is to get my butt there and start exercising more.
BONUS QUESTION: What’s your power song for the week? You Better Run by Pat Benatar. I heard it over the weekend and it’s been stuck in my head since then.
Karen says
Hey Barb!
Good for you for re-joining the gym. Do they have any fun classes? That’s the easiest way to get back into the swing of things, methinks.
Happy Monday!
Barb says
Yes, that’s the main reason I joined. I like doing classes and always feel like I get a better workout. They have a pool so there are some aqua fit classes, cycling (which I’m not too much a fan of), Zumba, kick boxing, yoga and body conditioning classes.
Happy Monday Hope you had a great weekend.
Karen says
For sure. It’s so much easier to move your body when there are people around to motivate you, right? How many cycling classes have you taken, btw? I promise that they get good after a few tries! The first few times are awful.
Barb says
Ha, only one! My hairdresser does hair part time and works at the YMCA and teaches spin. She talked me into going to one of her classes and I seriously felt like I was going to die. My legs and butt were KILLING me. for like a week I thought I was going to have to crawl up my stairs to go to bed that night. She tells me the same thing all the time. We’ll see. Maybe I’ll give it another go.
Karen says
Yeah, that first class is absolutely terrible. I remember my butt hurting because of sitting on the seat, OMG! I swear it gets better, and once your body knows what to expect, it gets REALLY GOOD. SO great for cardio and low impact. I would say give it 2 times a week for about a month. You really have to find a teacher that you like though who plays good music.
Kristen says
Is that your daughter in that photo? She’s too cute!
Karen says
Hi Kristen,
Yes, it is! She had a dance rehearsal for an upcoming recital last Saturday. I told her that whatever she does on stage just smile and have fun. 🙂
Kristen says
That’s awesome. I took tap and ballet lessons when I was a little girl and I loved them! I’m sure she did great at the recital!
Karen says
Lucky you! I would’ve loved to have taken dance classes when I was a kid (mostly because of the sparkly costumes) but instead got roped into taking piano lessons. It was fun for about two seconds, LOL! Anyway, yeah… I hope she continues to enjoy dance because it’s active and she seems to really like it. 🙂 Do you still ever take classes?
Tisha says
1. Hot pink eyeshadow or bright blue lipstick?
I have never worn bright blue lipstick OR hot pink eyeshadow, but I guess I would consider wearing the latter… I’ve worn these colors switched around though ( – bright blue eyeshadow and hot pink lipstick) .
2. High or low maintenance?
You know what? I WANT to be high maintenance. I feel like I’ve learned a little bit after watching 25 million beauty and fashion videos on Youtube but it always seems as though all I have ever have time for is to clear the never ending pile of clutter that keeps accumulating everywhere in the house. That and scrub dishes.
3. Have you ever prank-called anyone?
Yeah… Some time during that pre-teen/teen time. Same story as everyone else’s, probably, but not proud of it.
4. Sequins or leather?
I’m going with leather. Even though I’ve been avoiding leather clothing and bags (but not shoes) for the past few years now, I still appreciate the material since it would literally last a lifetime and I’m a sucker for those kind of things…
5. What’s your theme for the week?
Tidying.
BONUS QUESTION: What’s your power song for the week?
Somebody to Love by Queen 🙂
Karen says
Hi Tisha,
Tell me about it. Most of the time I’m putting on mascara in between chasing after my daughter and typing here on the keyboard. LOL
Do you have Netflix? They have a new show called Tidying Up that will inspire you to go after the clutter. I watched a few eps this weekend!
Christine Beck-Millan says
1. Hot pink eyeshadow or bright blue lipstick?
Bright blue lipstick. Whatever pigment is in pink eye shadow has scared me, the way it seeps into the skin and stains the skin for awhile. O_o
2. High or low maintenance?
LO-O–O-OO-W.
3. Have you ever prank-called anyone?
No. Too chicken.
4. Sequins or leather?
Why, yes!
5. What’s your theme for the week?
Work efficiently!

Hi Christine,
I was pleasantly surprised by how excited she was to be front and center! 🙂 I just hope she continues to enjoy dance… To be honest I think she likes the costume more, LOL!
P.S. What kind of dance did you do?
kellly says
If you’d have said BLACK lipstick, I would have picked that, but blue? I’ll have to go with pink eyes.
2. Somewhere in between. I don’t use foundation and would never contour my face but I do put makeup on every day.
3. Nope
4. Leather
5. Um, get through the week with no holidays?
Song: “In the Shallow”. It deserved to win.

Nicole says
Dude, STP’s Sex Type Thing was one of my fave songs (might still be!). Also Would by Alice in Chains. 😀

Hi Ericca,
I remember us chatting about it! CONGRATULATIONS! Being able to drive is such a feeling of freedom. It took me a while to get mine, too, by the way. I was older than most of my peers (20, I believe, and most my friends were driving at 15). But I passed that test (barely) on the first go.
Maybe start brainstorming a goals list?
Michele DiCola says

BONUS QUESTION: What’s your power song for the week?
Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys!
I’m finishing up an article right now about Millenial burnout, and good lord, there is so much I relate to in there. I’ve been in the midst of some life-shifting (new year, new whatever) and I feel like this article came in to be like “haaaaay you’ve been ignoring me, and I’m a frickin elephant, and have been in your room for a while.” Not quite sure what to do with all this knowledge yet… so this week might actually be more about contemplation than anything else!
Karen says
I think I saw that making the rounds, Shannon. I’ll have to make a note to read it, because I know a lot of people are talking about it.
Time for contemplation is always good, methinks. I know this sounds silly but maybe schedule some time to just sit and stare out a window? I swear letting your mind just wander and go where it wants to is super helpful.

Karen says
Hi Kate,
I feel you! I’ve had a few trips to the dentist that involved 6 shots. The worst one was the one with 8. IT WAS TERRIBLE! Anyway, how are you holding up?
Kate & Bree says
I’m doing okay; I’m a bit traumatized but I’ll live. I begged for gas because really, other people get put under to get their teeth pulled, can’t I have a little gas? No, he doesn’t have gas! He’s more concerned about the safety of putting someone under gas or anesthesia than about our minds. So, yes, I was numbed to the max.
He asked me if I wanted to keep my teeth. I looked at him as if he were crazy, then deadpanned, “No.” You evicted them from my mouth; I don’t need to hang onto them!
Susan C. says
1. Hot pink eyeshadow or bright blue lipstick?
Hot pink eyeshadow!
