So…what is the Monday Poll?
Good question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll. It’s just a list of five more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past gazillion years (more than 10!). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a great start. ?
1. A makeup brush you use every day?
I almost always use some kind of domed eyeshadow brush like the MAC 217, usually to apply or blend eyeshadow (yup, both powder and cream shadows!), but sometimes I’ll get it up in the mix to mellow out whatever’s underneath my eyes. Yesterday it was Benefit Boing Hydrating Concealer, which, by the way, if you don’t know, NOW YOU KNOW (review coming soon).
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose?
Oh, definitely one of the Oribe conditioners (probably Gold Lust), because homegirl’s gonna get her $$$’s worth! First of all, a liter of Gold Lust Conditioner is (wait for it) $182, and a gallon has almost 4 liters. So do the math. Secondly, I go through conditioner faster than I do shampoo, so I always need more of it, and I know I could finish every last drop of Gold Lust happily. 🙂
3. Are you allergic to anything?
Does drama count?
4. Best/worst Halloween candy?
Best are Mini Snickers (obvi), worst is licorice, BLECH.
5. Something you miss from the good old days?
This is probably gonna sound funny coming from someone who spent the bulk of the last decade online, but I miss life before the Internet. Even though it was so much harder to get information, life seemed more innocent to me and people felt less isolated.
I’m also deeply grateful that I was able to make my mistakes back then without them all being documented on some form of social media forever.
Oh, and totally unrelated, but I also miss the old Oreo cookies. I had one recently, and it just didn’t taste the same.
In case you were wondering how it feels to pick pumpkins straight off the vine…
FYI, it hurts! I found this out yesterday at a pumpkin patch in Petaluma called McClelland’s, where you can pick your pumpkin off the vine. I don’t know why, but it’s so cool to me to be able to have a freshly picked pumpkin, but sheesh! It’s not easy. The stems are covered in spiky bits, and they poke you when you’re removing the pumpkin from the vine.
McClelland’s also had a bunch of other things for kids and families to do, like a petting zoo, a hay ride, a huge pit of corn kernels that was like a sandbox, but with corn! (It felt a little like getting a foot massage when you put your bare feet into it… WEIRD). There was also a hay maze, which for the record was just as terrible as I imagined it to be… Did I mention that I’m slightly claustrophobic? Never you mind that the maze walls were about elbow height, LOL! I almost jumped out of there, for real!
Some pics…
Have you ever been to a pumpkin patch before?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

1. A makeup brush you use every day?
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose?
3. Are you allergic to anything?

5. Something you miss from “the good old days”?
Rachel Runyan says
Pumpkin patches are so fun. I haven’t been to one in years.
1. A makeup brush you use every day? E.l.f. Kabuki Face Brush. I use it with my setting powder.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? Softsoap Body Wash In Pomegranate & Mango. It’s my older son’s favorite, and he goes through it like crazy. He doesn’t even live here; just visits a lot. lol
3. Are you allergic to anything? I have terrible allergies: Any kind of smoke, the rhododendron & azalea family, plant pollen of pretty much any kind, cottonwood, and Scotch broom. Bee and wasp stings — the site will swell up really huge and itch, but I don’t have an Anaphylactic reaction, thank goodness.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? I agree with you on both counts.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? Music that was written by talented people and played on real instruments, and had personality.
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
Speaking of music, I miss the non-autotune days!
Rachel Runyan says
Amen!
Barb says
1. A makeup brush you use every day? A duo-fiber stippling brush from Japonesque for my bronzer.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? Remember Agree shampoo and Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific? Probably one of those.
3. Are you allergic to anything? Yes, penicillin and sulfa medications.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? This is hard! Best would be Snickers, Reese’s or KitKats. Worst would be black licorice.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? See number 2 above 🙂
Karen says
I remember those shampoos! You know what takes me back? Old school Finesse. Also Jhirmack and Prell!
Savannah says
1. A makeup brush you use every day?
-I’m pretty sure it’s 242 or 252 from Mac. One of those flat defining, synthetic brushes. I use that brush every time I do my eyes.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose?
– I guess Rocky Mountain Vanilla Coconut Conditioner. It’s all natural and it smells like cake. Delicious.
3. Are you allergic to anything?
– same as you, drama.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy?
– Reese or Mars bars. And licorice is the worst.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”?
– same as you, it seemed more simple then. The Internet is great and convenient, but it’s also equally as ugly and hideous. I don’t know. The good with the bad, I guess.
Karen says
Hi Savannah,
Licorice is terrible! How do you feel about red licorice? I’m not a fan of that either, blech!
P.S. The 252 was one of my first MAC brushes. 🙂
Jane says
I love liquorice, especially Pontefract cakes!
Karen says
Girl you can have all of my licorice, lol! I’m happy to hand them over to ya.
Chelsea says
1. A makeup brush you use every day?
My It Cosmetics foundation brush!
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose?
Hair conditioner! I go through so much. Right now I’m loving Biolage Fiberstrong and Living Proof Full.
3. Are you allergic to anything?
Peanuts and chamomile. Plus general seasonal allergies.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy?
Best, Milky Way, Twix, or Kit Kat. With you on the black licorice.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”?
Not paying bills ?
Karen says
Ha! I miss not paying bills, too. TAKE ME BACK!
Is your Medusa hair/costume all set for the performance? I have to bust out my costume for this year (’50s girl, I bought it a couple weeks ago) and do a test run just for fun because why not?!
Chelsea says
More or less! I tried adding rubber snake heads to the headpiece but it was too heavy for my fine hair when I went upside down LOL. Not like anyone will see that close when I’m up in the air anyway!
We have a rehearsal tonight and dress rehearsal on Friday, and I’m taking Friday off, so I’ll go all in then.
Karen says
Oh the rubber snakes would’ve been awesome! (But maybe a little gross feeling? They creep me out.)
Be sure to take pics so I can admire your handiwork. 🙂
Chelsea says
Will do! They aren’t particularly realistic snakes, so not too creepy.
I’m planning on big winged liner to focus on the eyes, and my headpiece has a little bit of purple in it, so purple lipstick. And I’ll do more face makeup than usual. Plus glitter.
Jane says
I haven’t done one of these in a long time, so here goes:
1. A makeup brush you use every day? My Bobbi Brown full coverage face brush. Funny thing is I don’t use it for foundation since I have been using my fingers, but I use it for bronzer, blush (sometimes) and other cheek products. I sometimes use it to buff my foundation.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? We go through Whole Foods Citrus shower gel like water. I would want one gallon for myself and another for Zack and my husband.
3. Are you allergic to anything? Unfortunately cats. I can’t be around them.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? Best: Almond Joy, Worst: Candy corn. I will say my favorite candy of all times are Lindt’s Truffles. I actually buy a bag and hide them from the guys.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? Good music!
So today I am living my last year in my 50’s. I just got my new Chanel Clair Obscur eyeshadow quad and am doing a happy dance. It’s been quite the decade!
Be well!
Karen says
Hi Jane,
Always good to hear from you. Regarding brushes, I love using brushes that are designed for a certain tasks for other things. Makes me feel like I’m getting more bang for my buck. How are things on your end? We’re just trying to get through the first few months of preschool cold season here. It’s been rough!
P.S. If you were my neighbor I’d hop on over with a bag of Lindt’s Truffles. I have one in my cupboard right now that I haven’t touched in months!
Jennifer R Osborn says
Jane,
Happy Birthday! 60 is the new 30.
Jaclyn Levy says
1. My angled eyebrow brush. I’ve used it every day for so long any markings have been rubbed off so I don’t know what brand it is!
2. I don’t know! I’m not really a hair person so I don’t know what the good products are. Honestly I’d probably grab a gallon of Bragg’s organic Apple cider vinegar. Best conditioner around.
3. Latex and penicillin. Found out about the later when I got mastitis. An allergic rash from the meds combined with the rash from mastitis was not a good look.
4. Mini reese’s peanut butter cups. Mmmm! The worst is candy corn. So gross.
5. Sleeping in.
Karen says
I miss sleeping in too, so much! Especially on the weekends. My alarm clocks now are Tabs climbing all over my head and Connor yelling “Mama. MAMA!” from her room. Le sigh.
Sylvia says
1. A makeup brush you use every day? I don’t know the number, but its a big fluffy Morphe eye blending brush. Gets my crease color on and blended super quick on work mornings.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? Off the top of my head Lush Rose Jam shower gel, it smells so good.
3. Are you allergic to anything? Cats. I have three, we used to have six. Some fragrances.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? Best are mini Kit-Kats, and worst are apple flavored anything, like those caramel apple flavored suckers. Yuck.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? Arguing with my dad over the Sunday funny pages ( comics) on the weekends when I was a kid.
Jennifer says
1. A makeup brush you use every day? It’s not a brush but I would have to say my beauty blender. I don’t use a brush every day but I always use that.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? Olaplex
3. Are you allergic to anything? mean people
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? best-all the candy! No, seriously, um I’m picking two because I love candy, Milk Duds and miniature Butterfinger bars. Worst, Mr. Goodbar. I generally love all things Hershey but those little chocolate bars stuffed with peanuts just taste gross to me. And I’m a peanut lover. Something ain’t right with that formula.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? talking to people on the phone. Nowadays I’m messaging everyone all the time. My mom, my kid, my best friends, my boss.
On an unrelated note, I’m so glad that you and Miss Thang got out of the corn maze alive. We went to one when Michael was a boy scout and I thought we were going to be pitching a tent in there. It was really tricky. Also, I’ve grown pumpkins before so I know what you went through. They are really tough and prickly–reminds me of my cactus days in the Az. desert.
Kim says
Hello! Yes, most of our orchards have a pumpkin patch in the fall with hay rides and corn mazes (and one also has a petting zoo). Do you have corn mazes in your area? The best one within a couple of hours drive from us is in Danville, VT. We used to go every year until the boys got too cool. 🙁 I agree with the hurty stems on the pumpkins, btw! Connor is getting so tall – I hope you warned her to keep an eye out for the Alien face-sucker white pumpkins that seem to be all around her. I know she’s Connor and not Ripley, but still. 🙂
1. A makeup brush you use every day? An oval, Artis style.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? Pureology Volumizing Shampoo.
3. Are you allergic to anything? Shellfish and codeine.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? Twix or Peanut Butter Cups for the best. Smarties or Dum Dums for the worst.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? I love the internet but agree with you on the social media aspect. What I really miss is being able to eat whatever I wanted and still be thin and healthy.
Christine Beck-Millan says
1. A makeup brush you use every day?
A tiny lip brush by Japonesque, but I use it for eyeliner, either spreading a very soft black pencil into a cat eye or applying cream eyeliner. It gets totally flat and sharp.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose?
GEE YOUR HAIR SMELLS TERRIFIC.
3. Are you allergic to anything?
Children’s Tylenol. I had a Stevens-Johnson Syndrome reaction to it (it’s an all-over body rash followed by skin blistering off, not fun, but probably the best “chemical peel” I’d ever had O_o).
4. Best/worst Halloween candy?
Good o’l apple/candy corn
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”?
Listening to vinyl with headphones while reading the liner notes. All songs in the order they came in and you had to TURN OVER THE RECORD to listen to the other side. 😉
Beautiful fall pics and Connor Claire is growing up so fast!
kellly says
1. A makeup brush you use every day? The little spiky one that came with the blush!
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose?
Bath and Body Works Rain Kissed Leaves body wash. There are so few fragrances that don’t smell like flowers, food or musk, and this one is so perfect for summer. It smells like leaves, just green leaves, and I love it.
3. Are you allergic to anything? Cigarette smoke, cats and lycra.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? Best – chocolate. Worst – anything else
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? Fewer people. Quieter places, less traffic, more solitude without having to travel to the moon to find it. Parking spaces at Costco on a Saturday. Slower pace of life – if you bought something you didn’t have the cashier starting to ring up the next person in line before you even put your wallet away. Driving 60 mph without noticing that someone was in your rear-view mirror just one car-length away from your back bumper. Less of everything, especially fewer people.
Syahidah says
1. A makeup brush you use every day? My Smashbox sheer powder brush for applying bronzer.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? Rahua Omega Hair Mask. That stuff is expensive but it works to recondition my colored hair!
3. Are you allergic to anything? Macadamia seed oil – I get full on rashed when I use anything with that in it.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? Best – Snickers for sure. Worst – Those pill-like candies. Gross.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? More ability for not functioning at 2000% in all areas of life all the time.
Ericca says
1. A makeup brush you use every day? powder brush
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? any rituals brand body wash. omg smells so rich.
3. Are you allergic to anything? nope.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? best candy is candy corn. worst candy and i just tasted it and it was rolo
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? old land line phones. not having to answer the phone on command. i love the phone cord and the act of hanging up on someone when your mad. it actually makes this ring sound. i love all old phones . the one whitley gilbert had in a different world. it was a fancy rotary phone.
Stephanie Smith says
1. A makeup brush you use every day? I don’t use any makeup brush every day. I love makeup, but I just don’t wear much of it.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? Dr Bronnar’s baby soap. It’s unscented. I like Dr Bronnar’s because it feels like my body gets clean, all the moisturizer and lotion residue gets washed off, and I don’t like a lot of scent in my body wash.
3. Are you allergic to anything? Sugar. Isn’t that awful? I can have a little, but too much and it’s canker sore city for me. I can’t eat hard candy at all, or brownies, two major canker sore triggers for me. It’s really sad.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? I looooove Tootsie rolls, nobody else does, and red Tootsie Pops, but I can’t eat them. Worst candy? Smarties.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? Not being tied to a cell phone, the excitement of hearing the phone ring and wanting to answer it, film cameras.
I just took my two daughters, ages 12 and 16, to the Pumpkin Patch in my town. We didn’t get pumpkins there because they’re waaaaay overpriced, but I’m always impressed with the selection. The corn pit was great, I didn’t go through the mazes because I’m a chicken. It’s always kind of the same, but there is something nice about that. And petting baby pigs is heaven!
Lulle says
1. A makeup brush you use every day?
A crease/blending brush I got in a set from BH Cosmetics. I’m seriously impressed with the quality, especially for the price.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose?
I’d probably go for a body wash from Molton Brown, I love their scents but it’s really pricey! Or the L’Occitane shower oil. Or their Verbena shower gel. Hard to decided!
3. Are you allergic to anything?
Benzoyl peroxide, which is a bummer because there isn’t much I can put on my zits when I get a breakout that really makes a quick difference. It happened recently, I had used it in the past without issues but now I get a rash from it. I tried switching brands several times but nope, it’s really the ingredient.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy?
I’m really not into candy these days, especially what you can find in the US. I ate so.much.candy as a kid, it’s a good thing for my teeth I eventually got tired of it…
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”?
Definitely life before smart phones. I don’t think I miss life before the internet so much, because it opens so many possibilities for entertainment, education, creativity, etc. But smart phones have really changed the way people live their daily life and interact with each other for the worst, if you ask me. I notice with kids (I mean anyone under 25) that it’s very hard for them to focus their attention onto something for more than a few minutes. I find it really scary.
Tatiana says
1. A makeup brush you use every day? Wayne Goss Brush 00 powder brush.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? A gallon? For free? Definitely the Oribe Gold Lust Transformative Masque. That stuff saves my hair and it’s $66 for 5 oz. So a gallon would be like $1689.60.
3. Are you allergic to anything? What am I not allergic to? The latest is cat dander/fur. Grrr.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? Best- Definitely Snickers in any shape, size or form. Worst – Those orange circus peanut things. BTW, I really love black licorice, especially Venco Katjesdrop from Holland.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? Pay phones and landlines. I hate having a cell phone having to be accessible 24/7. It weirds me out that my cell phone is capable of letting them know where I am at every moment in my life. I also miss life before the internet. I wasted less time and I’m glad my mistakes didn’t get plastered out there for everyone to see.
Two things I would never do, cut my own pumpkin (unless someone gave me thick, hide gloves to wear) or cut my own Christmas tree. Yeah, I get that they’re fresher. But that’s what big burly, farmer guys are for.
Tatiana says
Another Worst in Halloween candy. Necco Wafers.
Karen says
Oh those are terrible! Sweet Tarts too. BLECH
Michele DiCola says
Hi Karen ,
Happy Monday . We just saw Night School !
I have a set of Sephora brushes I use esp the larger one .
I would love a gallon of PUR D’Ora
Shampoo and conditioner. It’s designed to prevent hair breakage ; I researched it .
I am allergic to Aveeno and Murad . And yes even my derm uses Aveeno !
I miss funny , romantic and musicals in the movies ?
Tisha says
1. A makeup brush you use every day?
Mac 224 to set under eye corrector. Almost everyday.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose?
Probably the Aveeno Daily Moisturiser (for the body)
3. Are you allergic to anything?
No, not that I’m aware of. But I know I can’t handle too much sugar.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy?
The best would be any candy bar that’s full sized and the worst… there is no worst 🙂
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”?
The music. Specifically 90s music and MTV. And being carefree pre-baby.
P.S. Haven’t been to a pumpkin patch but your pics make me wanna go!
P.P.S. My daughter has the same pink dress. Love how you paired it with the leopard leggings ❤️
Karen says
Hi Tisha,
If she could my kid would wear that dress 24/7. She’s obsessed with it! Did you see the other colors they had? The navy blue is super cute too. How old is your little one?
Tisha says
Hahaha 🙂 Yeah mine too, so I ended up buying all the colors that I saw were available ? . The hot pink, pale pink, grey and navy blue… (In my defense I used a coupon). I personally like the light pink and grey one, I think she likes the hot pink the best. My daughter’s 5 btw.
Erin says
1. A makeup brush you use every day?
I don’t wear makeup everyday, so I’ll say fingers 😛
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose?
Def hair mask, Christophe Robin!
3. Are you allergic to anything?
It’s a better question to ask What Isn’t Erin Allergic too cause there is whole lot. Worst being: Peanuts, Sesame, Bees, almost every antibiotic and sulfa, mold, mildew, many types of pollen and trees, bees, nettles, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I was allergic to Eggs, Lactose, and Casein for years but with avoidance and gut healing I’ve downgraded to “sensitivities”.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy?
I don’t know most of it’s gross. The only candies that are mainstream that I still like are Harbiro Gummie Bears and Mounds. I guess I still like mints like York and Juniors but they have a lot of egg in them so I avoided them for many years. Andes mints?
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”?
Pop music that required talent. Playing. Feeling like there were possibilities. All rare even in my younger years but more so than I have now, that’s for sure. Learning?
Jane says
1. A makeup brush you use every day? My Zoeva 101 Luxe Face Defined brush, so good I’ve just ordered a second one. Great for applying Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? Elemis Sea Lavender & Samphire shower and bath cream, just LUSH!
3. Are you allergic to anything? Not allergic, but I do have skin sensitivities, mostly to sodium laureth sulfate and such like.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? Halloween isn’t done the same as the USA here in England, it’s much more low key, although children do go out trick or treating in small numbers. My own favourite sweets are toffees of any flavour or description.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? I think I’m with you on this one Karen. Although the Internet has brought good things with it I also think it has destroyed certain aspects of life that were better before it was created as far as I am concerned. I miss looking forward to monthly magazines, which is where I would find information on fashion and beauty, I miss actually seeing friends rather than just having online friendships and I also think the Internet has caused life to become so fast and so “instant” that it’s just too hard to keep up anymore. The days before the Internet were more enjoyable for me.
Daphne B says
1. A makeup brush you use every day? Sigma E25 blending brush, It Cosmetics complextion powder brush
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? Origins Whipped Ginger Souffle whipped body creme ( Trader Joes Grapefruit Ginger Sugar Scrub smells just like it!
3. Are you allergic to anything? technology ( and whatever is in most purple eyeshadows)
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? best – KitKat Bars ; worst – candy corn
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? I’m with you, Karen – the days before the internet, but in addition to that, I miss the days when TV was free, phone service was cheap, and life was just a whole lot simpler and slower – yet things still got done. So much less stress for everyone!
Diana says
My dad&I went every year to a different Pumpkin patch& then for lunch, until i turned 47-it was our tradition ? Enjoyed reading everyone’s answers today!
1. A makeup brush you use every day? Bobbi Brown face brush (small white hair) to blend blush, powder..
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose? Philosophy body wash like Cinnamon Buns, Pure Grace
3. Are you allergic to anything? Sulpha&Penicillin meds, passive aggressive mean people
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? Lindt truffles, sweet tarts (to balance the chocolate) absolutely hate licorice and candy corn
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? Having extended family around, aunts, grandparents, cousins..playing outside until dark etc, just a more present, carefree time than kids have now.
Kate & Bree says
Pumpkins do have those evil spikes! That’s why my mom made us wear gloves the one time I we went to a pumpkin patch! OMG it was so funny! We had a minivan where you could take the third row out, so my grams made my mom take it out (thinking about this know, this was a totally dangerous maneuver) and my mom and dad were in the front seats, my toddler cousin in the middle, I sat on my grams lap in one seat and my brother on my aunt’s to the pumpkin patch. Why? Because at that pumpkin patch, we could fill up our car to the top of the furthest back seat for something like $15 back then (I must have been 11.) My grams and aunt – ever the ones for a deal – stacked our van ALL THE WAY to the very top of our back seat with gourds and pumpkins. My grams really only wanted a bowl full of gourds and five pumpkins, my aunt took about half and there we were…left with half a van worth of pumpkins and gourds. HA HA HA.
1. A makeup brush you use every day?
When I actually do use and wear makeup…a flat eyeshadow brush. They are work horses for me.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose?
Oh, that’s hard. Anything? Probably Botanic’s hot cloth cleansing balm.
3. Are you allergic to anything?
Oh, I have a long long long list. It’s better if you ask me what I don’t have sensitivities or allergies to.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy?
Best is definitely Rice Krispie treats; I am a sucker for the Rice Krispie treats (it’s why I buy them every year.) I personally loathe the people who hand out popcorn balls. I HATE popcorn balls.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”?
When people knew each other in their neighborhoods and kids could go to the park by themselves and not need a hovering parent. It was definitely a pre-Internet thing (pre-1998 thing) and I used to know everyone on my street. When I lived on the military bases, I used to do trick-or-treating with my gaggle of 3 or 4 friends when I was 8. An 8-year-old doing that now with their friends is seen as neglect!
Wish me luck Karen. It’s Special Olympics week and I’m totally not prepared and I fell off my horse last week. Maybe it’s good luck to fall off your horse. I shall google this.
Susan C. says
1. A makeup brush you use every day?
Sonia Kashuk’s angled blush brush (the one with the long black handle). It’s the perfect size and density to lay just the right amount of color on my chubby cheeks.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose?
Rusk Sensories Calm shampoo. It just smells good.
3. Are you allergic to anything?
Annatto, a natural food colorant derived from (of all things) the lipstick plant! Oh, and latex.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy?
Best, Dove dark chocolate. Worst, the Zagnut…mostly because none of us had seen one before. When we were kids we attempted to burn one on the driveway. The mystery candy would not be burned. Necco wafers are quite disgusting as well.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”?
Knowing that the people I love the most are all in good health.
Mazes have always given me the creeps, even before I saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. After that, you could not pay me enough to go in a maze.
Karen says
Hi Susan,
The maze in The Shining is what did it for me. If I was caught in one with high walls I would find a way to scale those trees and get the eff out, LOL!
Susan C. says
Karen, the maze in The Shining was so terrifying, I totally blocked it out of my memory! Aaaiiggh!

1. A makeup brush you use every day? Tom Ford’s original bronzer brush although I have never used it for bronzer. I use it for finishing powder. Even on days when I don’t wear foundation, I’ll use a bit of finishing powder to take down the glow of my physical sunscreen. Although I use a micronized one that never looks white, it still looks a bit glossy on its own. The TF brush is so much a part of my makeup routine that I actually own two.
2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free, what would choose? L’Occitane’s Almond Body Oil. I love to slather it on after a bath while my skin is still a bit damp.
3. Are you allergic to anything? No.
4. Best/worst Halloween candy? Best: Snickers! Worst: Those apple caramel flavored suckers. I love a caramel apple, but the candy suckers taste so artificial.
5. Something you miss from “the good old days”? Nothing really. I value the past and remember with fondness many things, but I can’t say that I really miss anything—unless it is the ability to stay up very late and still be bright eyed and bushy tailed early in the morning.
Karen says
Hi Eileen,
Snickers for the win! BTW I miss being able to stay up all night and wake up early with energy to spare.

You got wristbands? That pumpkin ? patch party must have been liiiiiiiit!
Karen says
GIRL. You don’t even know! It was the most intense pumpkin patch I’ve ever visited. There was lots of stuff to do and we didn’t even get to half of the things!
Nicole Standfast says
Oh yes. Trans fat days of old. When the Oreos were scrumptious. Lol.
Hanna Rose says
Hi Karen!
It’s my first time commenting on your lovely blog! 🙂
Looks like you had fun at the Pumpkin patch but who knew Pumpkin picking could be such dangerous work! Ouch!
I absolutely loved this week’s Q&A poll; here are my answers too! 🙂
Q1. A makeup brush you use every day?
A1. Not a makeup brush exactly, but still a sort of brush-like alternative that I use everyday would have to be my hands! Honestly, you can do a lot with your fingers when it comes to applying makeup.
Q2. If you could have any gallon-sized bottle of any bath/shower product for free (like a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, or whatever you can think of), what would choose?
A2. Like you Karen, I find conditioner is always needed and I have booty length hair so I do get through a lot of hair conditioner too. However, I’m a sucker for novelty so personally, I’m going to have to abandon the sensible hair conditioner idea in favour of something a little bit more silly! I’d love to have a gallon of the Lush Snow Fairy shower gel to last me all year round!
Q3. Are you allergic to anything?
A3. Yes! Walnuts!!
Q4. Best/worst Halloween candy?
A4. My favourite Halloween candy is Treacle Toffee, also known as Bonfire Toffee! My worst Halloween candies are chocolate limes! Yuk! Yuk! Yuk!
Q5. Something you miss from “the good old days”?
A5. I liked being able to switch off from things more easily. These days, technology and the Internet means there’s always something to being doing which is nice except for when you start to feel like you should always be doing something! My head aches just thinking about all of the information that our brains have to constantly try and process!
Phew! That’s me all done!
Thanks 🙂
