Just Checking In…

April 17th, 2010 by Karen 34 Comments

What is it with cats and laundry baskets?

I’m proud of myself, ladies. I stuck to my plan to be totally unproductive today, and DAMN it felt good.

How’s your weekend coming along? Anything exciting happen yet? I can safely say that nothing exciting has happened to me in days, not since the food drama last Thursday (I had some Japanese that didn’t sit quite well).

Speaking of unfortunate edibles and other randomness, have you ever had bacon on a stick? There’s a huge candy store here in Novato that has it on the counter… I’m curious, but I don’t think I’m ready “to go there” yet with bacon.

I guess if I combined it with these weird fried egg gummy candies, I’d have a full breakfast, ha! 🙂

Wait — I almost forgot. Something exciting DID happen today. My Sephora order arrived (used my VIB coupon for 15% off)! I restocked a few must-haves (got a HUMUNGO bottle of PMS, aka Philosophy Purity Made Simple) like…

Big ass bottle of PMS, $40

Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia Body Butter, $15

Clarins Sunscreen Wrinkle Control Eye High Protection, $28

Shu Uemura Mini Lash Curler, $17

What are some great new products I should try? Tell some of your faves. 🙂

Right now El Hub is getting ready to go out on a “bromance date” with a friend of his, so I’ll be flying solo tonight. If I can get my shizz together, there’s an exhibit in San Francisco I’d like to see on “Beauty Shop Culture” at the SOMArts Cultural Center.

The website says the exhibit explores “the contemporary manifestations of beauty shops as a form of community space,” and that it highlights “traditions and history of hair, hair care products, potions and pomades from various cultures throughout the world beginning in the sixteenth century.” Sounds cool, right? There’s supposed to be a display of beauty shop antiques with vintage hairdryers and curling iron ovens, too.

Anywho, I hope you’re doing well. Let me know what’s new with you. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Hi Karen, I love powell’s! I visited the one in Windsor when I visited family in Cali back in January. But that one didn’t have the bacon on a stick darn them! 🙂 Ps is the mini lash curler worth the $? I’ve been wondering for awhile if I should get it or not. My outside lashes are so hard to get at!

Hehe Muffin likes to sit on top of a stack of newspapers or a notebook. Cats are a strange bunch.
Have you tried the vosges bacon chocolate? I think it’s called Mo’s Bacon Bar… they sell them at Whole Foods and online. I know they also make this little chocolate pig figurine with bacon bits. I really like it!

I’m waiting for my order, Karen…I picked up some TimeBalm concealer after reading your review, too. I also got a bottle of TendSkin. It’s awesome, thought not necessarily “fun”, you know?

What’s the mini eyelash curler for? I’m curious to know how you like it.

I used my coupon today too! I got some No Frizz from Living Proof. Love it! I’m thinking of going back to get some more Purity too. I’m glad that coupon is good until Monday.

I used my coupon last week; and got a shipment notification today. I got Supergoop, Phyto Phytodefrisant Botanical Hair Relaxing Balm (LOL mouthful of a name), a Smashbox cream eyeliner palette that they had on special for $15, and the tokidoki Bellisima makeup pouch…. plus my boitday gift. Cant wait to get it!

Other than lunch and a trip to CVS, we stayed in: mucked around the house, watched tv, read and I made a blueberry cobbler. We just had some with vanilla icecream. 🙂 IIve never tried chocolate covered bacon. We saw some at a store in Austin Tx but … .much as I love chocolate, I dont think im ready for that. The exhibit you mentioned looks very, very interesting!!!

Bacon and chocolate are pretty good together — I’d eat it! Have you had chicken-fried bacon? We tried that at the rodeo last year. We missed it this year, but I’m hoping to make it to the state fair this fall, home of all things fried!

Coupons always paralyze me. So much pressure, and I’m always suspicious that it’s going to be followed by a bigger sale and I’ll be sorry I settled for 15% off; is that crazy? 😀 I’m awful with gift cards, too. I just finally spent part of one I received five months ago for my birthday.

O hay! We have the same laundry basket, but mine is (unfortunately) minus the kitteh. 😛

I don’t suppose you’ve tried the mini lash curler? I don’t have any lemmings right now (gasp!) but was considering picking one up with the 15% off. Mayyyybe.

(Yes I’m feeling indecisive today, LOL!)

Bacon and chocolate has got to be yummy. It’s two of the tastiest foods ever! There’s this chocolate bar from Vosges that has bacon in it (http://www.vosgeschocolate.com/category/bacon_candy_bars). I’ve been wanting it, but have a hard time finding it.

Anyway, I really like double ended brushes from Sephora. They’re the ones with the candy colored bristles. I have the two eyeshadow brushes. You should try ’em! 🙂

(Also, we have the exact same laundry basket. Mine is lying behind me right now, telling me to go sort my clothes.)

How fun! I didn’t know that exhibit was in town. I may have to check it out. Did you make it?

Well, even though I am on my no buy, I did haul from Sephora and only got one thing that I needed which was a new moisturizer. I decided to try a new brand called First Aid Beauty. The reviews on the whipped moisturizer were pretty positive on MUA. I did get three free samples so that’s exciting, right?

Glad you picked up so goodies at the VIB sale. The Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia is one of my favourite scents from their line. It is just so pretty. For the VIB sale, I splurged on a single item: a 100mL of Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy eau de parfum. So far I am loving it. I don’t know about bacon on a stick but I like my bacon hot off the pan!

Love hearing when you get new products…new products are always so fun! I just recently bought a Vosges chocolate bar, called “Mo’s Dark Bacon Bar.” It’s dark chocolate with smoked bacon finely chopped and alderwood salt. It really hits that sweet/salty craving, and most of my friends either love it or hate…a lot like Popcorn Jelly Bellys.
I just got a Maybelline lipgloss, part of their summer collection (limited edition in Pinata Pink) and it is fantastic!! I’m thinking of trying the other colors but just not sure yet. If you try it out, let me know what you think of both! 🙂

Nothing new here, we’re all watching the sky for that volcanic cloud- all the airports have been closed for days, so weird!!

Oh I wish my Sephora would carry that Shu curler…

My cat adores all kind of boxes! She just can’t stand that there’s an open box in the house and she hasn’t explored it.

I’m passing on the Sephora sale because I spent way too much on the UD F&F sale… and I found out that they’re gonna have a Hautelook sale on Tuesday. My wallet is screaming in pain, lol. But, goodies! I bought two Stardust shadows (Atmosphere and 54), the Stereophonic set, and a 24/7 eyeliner in Mildew. (I recently realized that I now own all but two of their 24/7 eyeliners. I just love eyeliners, what can I say?)

I have the mini Shu curler too… I don’t use it much, mostly because I’m lazy and don’t really care if I miss the ones on the end. They curl naturally anyway. Eh. Let us know how it works out for you, though!

Really late to the party but wanted to add my huge rave for the shu mini curler. I love that it gives me the ability to change the shape of my lashes to either emphasize or de-emphasize the natural almond shape. Before the intro of the mini I used the shiseido curler because even the shu was too long for my tiny eyes. It’s kind of like the difference between full strip and individual false lashes.

I enjoy bacon in pretty much any form, so I’d give the bacon lollipops a try. Speaking of weird bacon combos, can I just tell you that a peanut butter and bacon sandwhich on toasted wheat bread is one of the most yummy things ever? I know it sounds gross, but the PB and bacon somehow weirdly complement one another…heart attack on a plate, though. I ate one every day for breakfast when I was pregnant. Good times, lol.

Sephora 15% haulage: YSL Rouge Volupte in #26 Tender Peach (the bomb!!) and Tokidoki eyeliner pen in purple (not so much the bomb); still awaiting arrivel of Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Pearl in Satin Peach and Guerlain Terracotta Tinted Moisturizer. I tried to load up on the higher-end stuff since it so rarely goes on sale.

Saw “Kick Ass” last night with the Mr. last night. Think “Pulp Fiction” meets “The Incredibles” and you’ve got the picture. Both hilarious and disturbing…well worth the ticket price if violence and profanity don’t offend you!

I heard that Kick Ass has a lot of violence… I was thinking about watching that movie because I like comic books, but I’ll probably wait ’till it comes out on DVD.

And oooh, I so know what you mean about that Tokidoki eyeliner pen. I bought a pink one and its, um, interesting.
