I know we’ve discussed it before, but uh…mine has changed over the past few months.
SHOCKER, I know.
I’m definitely wearing fewer products than I was pre-pandemic; that’s for sure. I wear less base in general, and now I’ve gotten to the point where it feels like I’m wearing too much when I use concealer and foundation at the same time. Now I actually prefer only using foundation, and I’ll use it for everything, too — under my eyes for dark circles, and/or to do some “spot correcting” on the uneven areas on my cheeks.
(Side note: I like using a buildable medium-to-full-coverage foundation for this, and It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Foundation is great for this.)
Overall, I’m also wearing less eye makeup than I used to, which has been a double-edged sword, because on one hand, I have so much extra time to spend on important life things like rewatching Schitt’s Creek, but on the the other hand, my blending skills have reeeeeally deteriorated. I haven’t done a complicated smokey eye in FOREVER, and even now when I see myself in pics wearing just one or two colors, I see mistakes I probably wouldn’t have made a few months ago when I was regularly wearing more eye makeup and pushing my skills (LOL).
Even though I’ve been wearing lipstick and gloss around the house, I miss going out in public and being able to rock a bright lippie. I also miss seeing other women wearing bold reds and whatnot and being able to compliment them. Is that crazy? I was that stranger, BTW, the one who would walk up to you in Sephora on the day you were rocking a bright red and say things like, “You look amazing in that red lip, like AH-MAY-ZING,” and see their face light up. That always makes me so happy. 😊 I haven’t done that in person in over a year… I miss sending that kind of energy out into the world, you know?
So how has your makeup style changed lately? How would you describe it now?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Definitely minimal to non-existent. I feel no need to put foundation on. I always loved a sheer to light to barely medium foundation before but I’ve just gotten lazy. Dear Husband tells me I look nice without makeup anyway. And who am I to argue with that man? Lol.
I used to have oily skin so the recent dryness is something I’ve had to adjust to. I’ve always loved wearing a lip balm or moist lipstick and still throw one on most days because lipstick has always made me feel good. Yup, lipstick and mascara. That describes my makeup routine these days.
The funny thing is, I’ve been wearing more eye makeup than ever before as that’s all that anyone sees!
Even though I’m at home most days, I still enjoy wearing some makeup because it makes me feel pulled together and the normalcy of applying it gives me a psychological lift. I haven’t been wearing foundation very much except for Zoom calls. Instead, after applying all my skincare and sunscreen, I lightly dust on a bit of Clé de Peau Refining Pressed Powder with my La Mer powder brush. It’s a translucent powder that is light diffusing and has a blurring effect. When I want a warmer look, I’ll use Guerlain Terracotta Loose Powder to Go in Clair. It does the same thing as the CdP only it gives my fair complexion a soft sun kissed look. I may or may not use blush or highlighter. It just depends on my mood. If I’m going out in public, I like to brighten my eye area by using Guerlian Precious Light in oo. It’s a lovely illuminator which has a smooth satin finish that doesn’t settle into my fine lines or emphasize any rough texture. As for eye makeup, more often than not I’m reaching for neutrals to shadow my eyes and line along my lashes. I still wear lipsticks like Rouge Coco Flash on a regular basis because they make my dry lips feel comfortable. I haven’t had any issue with them when wearing a mask. To sum up, my look is softer and more neutral.
Hi Karen,
I enjoy reading your blog more than that I really love your personality. You radiate happiness and positivity. I get inspired everyday whenever I read your blog or see your insta pics. I try to be a Sunshine mom to my daughter just like you. Feeling grateful, thankful and blessed
Hi Mel,
Thank you for your kindness! I was needing a lift and your kind words did just that. Have a great day!
P.S. How old is your daughter? Mine will be 5 in March!
mine is literally black eyeliner and tinted chapstick. Saves a ton of time l0l.
When I wear makeup it’s pretty much the same products but now I’ve taken to different applications.
Before my go-to was packing a shimmery, brightening shade onto my lid, blending out with an easy brown (Mac wedge or soft brown) and highlight. Then of course gel liner on top and a smudge of a darker brown eyeshadow on my lower lash line.
Now, I’m liking a thin layer of matte creme shadow. Then with a fluffy brush, I brush on the same easy brown (wedge, soft brown, soba) on my lid to my crease. Then I highlight. Then I smudge a dark matte brown along my upper lash line. Then I go in with my gel eyeliner. Then with a smaller fluffy brush, I lightly tap on a shimmery shadow onto what’s available on my eyelid, careful not to get too close to the crease or the eyeliner. Depending on my mood, I’ll brush a slightly darker brown into the crease (texture, Swiss chocolate) and brush a hint of the shimmery shadow onto my lower lash line. This seems to open up my eyes and look more natural and flattering. Unfortunately, it ends up requiring the same amount of product as before, ha ha, but c’est la vie.
I’ve also been liking applying highlighter with my fingertips instead of the brush. I find the shimmer stays where I put it better as opposed to being everywhere on my face with a brush.
My current makeup style is wearing none for daaayyysss, then putting on some foundation, mascara, blush, and tinted brow gel occasionally when I’m going out. (Who is this no-makeup-wearing person I’ve become, lol?) I do love my Shiseido tinted lip balm around the house, though. It’s saving my lips this winter, while the pretty pink color makes me feel marginally less like a hibernating troll.
Yes, I feel like my makeup skills have deteriorated too since the pandemic. I probably only get to put makeup once a week if we go to see my mom. But it’s so nice not to have to do the whole makeup routine, but then I miss wearing makeup too! Smh what’s a girl to do?
I feel like lip color is a necessity for video calls, so I’m probably wearing more lip color working from home! Other than that, little has changed – my daily look is winged liner, mascara, brows, and however much coverage I need. I have been wearing black liner and mascara, which is different.
My makeup style’s always varied from day to day-minimal one day, full glam the next, a bit avant-garde the day after that-so really no change!
Love the Connor cameo! 🙂 It doesn’t seem like mine could have gotten any more minimal, but the only thing on my skin these days is clear sunscreen. I miss blush and not looking like a total zombie. My eye makeup has stayed the same but it’s always been minimal.
I know it’s not the same, but you put tons of good energy out through the blog. It’s always a joy to read your posts. <3
I definitely wear much less lipstick, mostly because i don´t work from home and have to wear my mask all day. my eye shadow habits haven´t changed much, after all my eyes are the only part that can actually be accentuated with makeup these day. Foundation – not so much, after all it rubs off within a few hours anyway.

As a lipstick girl I sadly have to say: lined cat-eyes,
I put some cream shadow on my lid, smear some kohl liner or dark eye shadow stick (at the moment I love dark green) around my eyes and make a flick with a small clean eyeliner brush. Often I even skip mascara 😉
For my lips I use lip balm or at home lip oil…
