At the beach last weekend I saw all these people wearing swimsuits and showing off skin, and that got me thinking about wearing makeup on places other than your face.
I know celebs often wear makeup on their arms, legs, necks, backs and even feet (!) for red carpet events, but how often do us mere mortals wear body makeup?
Do you ever wear foundation on your legs or limbs to the beach or pool? Or do you wear body makeup on a daily basis, like, for covering a tattoo for work?
I’m curious to know if it’s more common then I think it is, since body makeup is a rare thing for me. I’ve only worn it once or twice for Halloween, which is what’s going on in this picture from a few years ago. I dressed up as a fall wood fairy, so I buffed a cream bronzer on my arms, neck and hands to make it seem like I’d been roaming around the dirt in the forest.
Was it successful? Dunno. I could’ve been dirtier, LOL! It was fun to experiment, though.
Sometimes, if I’m taking pics for MBB and I’m wearing an off-the-shoulder top or if my hair is up, I’ll wear foundation and/or bronzer on my neck, chest and ears to even everything out so my skin appears consistent on camera from the chest on up, but ya know… It’s not something I’d bother with if I was just chillin’ on a Tuesday.
How often do you do wear body makeup?

Look at you! You beautiful tree nymph!
The only body makeup I do is tinted/glowing body moisturizer/oil and that’s it.
Karen says
Hi Lacy,
It was a fun costume! Thankfully none of my neighbors were around to see me posting up on that tree. LOL
How’s it going? It’s HOT here today in Northern California!
Lacy says
Haha to the neighbor comment! That would have made for a fun story. Things are going. We’re having lovely high 70 low 80s with sun and breeze here in PA. Too bad I have a terrible cold or something. So my beauty game has been lacking. Moisturizer, mascara, messy bun and glasses instead of contacts. Done. I probably resemble a woodland creature such as this post only less attractive LOL!

Oh no, no, no, no, no. Never. Not at age 49 anyway. I’m too self-conscious about my aging, crepey skin to highlight it or put makeup on it.
Now, back in the day, when everything was tight and just right, I often wore body makeup–on my shoulders, back, decollete, arms, calves–usually a bronzer or a highlighter or a cream or a glitter.
Love that costume by the way, you look smokin’!
Karen says
That’s so cool. How did you get the makeup on your back?! Maybe you’re more flexible than I am (I can barely reach back there).
FeyFrau says
Girl, you got the look!
The most body makeup I did when I used to perform was Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs and LUSH Glitterbugs.
Today, I’ll just cover my partial chest tattoo with a statement necklace.
I feel like it’s hard to keep makeup pristine anywhere else but the face.
Karen says
I feel like it’s hard, too. Especially if there’s hot/humid weather to consider.
Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs is still around! I’ve seen it at the drugstore.
How’s it going out your way? It is super hot here in Northern California right now. Makes me nervous because fire season is here.
FeyFrau says
Aah, Hurricane Season upon us. I gotta work on our food/water kit. ;/
You & family take care during fire season.
Airbrush Legs is amazing! It looks a little too fake, though. Nobody’s legs look like that IRL. 😀
Karen says
I think I’ll get some Airbrush Legs to try just for fun. I remember using it waaay back in the day but the memory is buried deep inside those brain folds. LOL
Yes, get that kit in gear. I have to do the same for Fire Season. I remember the stories of people just north of me (literally must up the highway) and how some families only had a few minutes to gather what they wanted to bring with them.
FeyFrau says
btw, please post your list for that beautiful look! 😉
I am loving that pink eyeshadow and I see a wonderful olive-y green in there, too!
Karen says
OK, so it’s a bit old, and I just re-read the post… Apparently my memory is dicey because I used some special body makeup from a MAC collection. Whoops! Here it is in detail.

Look at you, all woods nymphy! 🙂 I’ve only used it to cover a bruise on my arm while wearing a sleeveless shirt (when I had to look nice; I think it was for a wedding). Normally I just go all-bruise, all day. HAHA! My boys joke that they can’t even touch me without leaving a mark so I’m usually sporting some sort of purple on my arms or legs. I can’t imagine how I’d look if I was clumsier. 🙂
Erica says
I don’t wear makeup anywhere but my face. I’m too worried it will get on and ruin my clothes!
Belén says
As a KP sufferer, I frequently use body makeup ok my arms, but I wish I didn’t have to 🙁
Michele DiCola says
I have a bronzer / tanner I wear on my legs . I guess you can put it anywhere but it makes more sense to have tan legs ?
It’s by Sally Hansen .
LindaLibraLoca says
Uhm, never, I´d say. I have some spider veins on my legs that I would probably want to cover up for going on the red carper, but as I rarely get the chance to do that…
Melissa says
Just my face but I had a college roommate who put makeup on her feet. Not self tanner but makeup – concealer, blush. I think she was trying to even up tan lines but she was a wacko so who knows…
Misha says
I usually wear makeup on my legs since I can be a klutz and end up bumping every corner of my house ending up all bruised. I apply some bronzer as well during the rainy season if I can’t go out and get a tan but that’s just about it.

Look at you, beautiful woodland creature! I have a subtle bronzey glimmery body moisturizer that I wore years ago on my wedding day decolletage (don’t remember if it was by Prescriptives or Jergens), I keep wanting to still wear it during vacations but I usually forget to because I’m too busy/lazy! Still smelled fine last time I checked…last summer… Oh and I had the Urban Decay marshmallow glimmery body powder in my frangrance rotation back when those were HOT. Flavored body powder, who knew these would be such a thing?!
