According to this NY Times article, there are only a handful of Glamour Shots stores left in the United States!
Do you remember when they were literally in every single mall?? I remember going to the one in New Park Mall circa 1994 with my BFF Jen, and I don’t remember if it was a premeditated thing or spur-of-the-moment, but I do remember taking Glamour Shots that involved the holding of collars and exposing of shoulders, as well as black pleather jackets and pearls.
WHY, THOUGH?!
I seem to remember that we believed they were hella cool at the time, but in retrospect? Cheesy.
Thankfully for me, they have been lost in the vortex of time… 🙂 *wipes brow*

Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever done Glamour Shots. I KNOW YOU HAVE if you lived through the mid-’90s and were within driving distance of a mall!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF!!!

Before YouTube makeup tutorials and during the time of John Casablanca modeling schools, when you had neither, you went to Glamour Shots. That same lighting as the commercials for Elizabeth Taylor’s White Diamonds fragrance.
Yes, I had glamour shots taken, along with mum and sis. SO. MUCH. LAME (l’accent ague). I’m sure my ma still has ’em somewhere.

I have not done Glamour Shots but I wanted to so badly as a kid/pre-teen. The latest season (3) of Stranger Things is set in a mall in the 80’s and two of the main characters Max and Eleven go to Glamour Shots and it is hilarious. It was kind of fun to see all the old stores too like Cotton Ginny and Sharper Image. They did a really good job of recreating an 80’s mall.

How funny, I totally forgot about these! My cousin and her family did one where they all dressed up in a western theme and held guns and stuff and the background was like the old west. Oh I was so jealous!

I remember the Glamour Shots stores in the malls but I never went to one myself. That YouTube video was great! Oh the hairstyles from back then are something else.
Happy Friday.

Guilty as charged. So cheesy! And sadly, mine were not lost. They are waiting to come back and haunt me at the least convenient time.

yes, my mom loved them. she even did those poses in regular photos

Honestly I didn’t know about Glamour Shots until much later on. The mall in my ‘hood in Brooklyn didn’t have one and I don’t think the Long Island mall had one either . . .

I remember them, but never did got my pictures taken at one. I thought even back then they were cheesy.

No, I was never narcissistic enough to do that. For me, it would have been like that episode of “The Simpsons” where Homer’s photographer slathers petroleum jelly on the lens before taking his photographs (though the photos above look like that, too). The pictures I had to pose for my senior year in high school were ridiculous enough, and I felt like a fool when they handed me a fake rose to look emotional over.

I totally did! Leather jacket off the shoulder and everything. In fact, my daughter has one of them in a frame on her TV stand as we speak! lol
A bit mortifying now but it really was a lot of fun back then. 🙂

I did Glamour Shots back in the 90’s/ I have it posted on my instagram. I actually liked the way they did my hair and makeup. I felt glamorous. LOL!
