The sun came out yesterday for the first day in a loooong time, and I was able to walk outside without a sweater, a sweatshirt, a coat and a raincoat. ‘TWAS GLORIOUS. I could actually put my arms down without feeling like Randy from A Christmas Story in his snowsuit.
Every person I ran into yesterday said something along the lines of, “The sun is out! Let us bow down and worship it!”
Yeah, I’m exaggerating, but we Californians are nuts. ?
It wasn’t quite warm enough to wear sandals outside yet (unless you’re one of those dudes who wears Tevas in a snowstorm), but the Coywolf and I still stopped to smell the flowers and the new spring shoes as DSW.
I love tennies with cute animal prints, and there were plenty of puppy patterns for all the #crazydogladies.
Are dressy flip-flops a thing? Because they should be. These Kate Spade slippers fit the bill. I like them, but I can’t spend $70 an a pair of fancy flip-flops, ya know?
To clarify: I really want to…but I can’t. If they go on sale, though? That’s another story! ?
I haven’t worn a proper high heel in three years, but I liked this navy and tan Clarks of England sandal and this Dr. Scholl’s sandal. The heels don’t seem obnoxiously high…
I also thought these Naturalizer tennies in pink and taupe were cute, but I can’t figure out if one is supposed to wear socks with them. The mesh is see-through, so I assume you’re supposed to forgo the socks, but then maybe the mesh is there so you can show off your socks?
Now that’s the universal question, isn’t it? To wear socks, or not to wear socks. Hmm…
Speaking of socks, there were lots of cute ones!
Props to whoever organized this display, because I would have placed the coffee socks next to the doughnut ones too, ha ha ha!
How about a strappy sandal to show off a cute spring/summer pedicure?
I’m so ready to be warm again. It’s not even funny!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I loooove your DSW posts! I can tell you that Clark’s shoes are very comfortable and I love that first pair you put up. I’m also into that Crown Vintage brand. Hopefully they will send me a coupon soon!
Karen says
I had a pair ages ago (over 10 years) and remember liking it. I’m guessing “Clarks of England” is a rebranding?
Rachel says
Or maybe another line of theirs? I know last time I was near an outlet mall I hit up the Clark’s store and it was called “Clark’s Bostonian” whatever that means.
Karen says
Well that’s just confusing marketing, LOL!
LindaLibraLoca says
The sun has been out here too, but it is very windy and (after a few glorious warn days) very cold again. No way you could go outside without a jacket. But still nice to see the sun and the flowers, it has been winter far too long.
Karen says
Yes it has! Can’t wait for spring.

Hi Karen, Glad you are finally having some pretty weather out there. I love your DSW posts, too! I am going there right after work – I want a pair of those pink bunny socks! I also love those rain clogs from Joules with the dogs – too cute, but will have to save up for them. Did you buy any of their cute sandals?
Karen says
Hi Daphne,
Oh, I wish I did! Not this time, though. It ended up being more of a scouting trip because I was wearing thick tights, which would throw off the fit of the sandals (I didn’t realize how warm it was until I got outside). I’m glad I held off because I found a 20% off coupon in my mailbox when I got home. 🙂
P.S. I want the pink bunny socks, too!

I am SO ready for spring and summer shoes and clothing! I live in Ohio, so we’ve been dealing with winter weather since October…
Karen says
YES! I can’t wait to be warm again!
When does spring start for you guys? Typically ours kicks in during late March or early April.
Kristen says
Normally around April we start to see things warming up, and then definitely by May we’re in full-swing warmer temps.
Although today it’s supposed to reach 70 degrees, and then drop to 36 degrees on Saturday and snow…so anything can happen! Haha
Karen says
Ooh, enjoy that sunshine, lady! We’re supposed to have nice weather this weekend, and if I could, I would capture it in a bottle and send it to ya. But you know… Next thing you know we’ll be moaning and groaning about being too hot. LOL
I’ve never been to Ohio, by the way. I have a friend who moved out to the Bay Area from Ohio and one thing she says is vastly different is the traffic. She says that when she lived in Ohio, and she knew that her destination was 10 minutes out, it would *always* be 10 minutes. Here in the Bay Area, 10 minutes can easily turn into 30 minutes or even an hour!

Our weather is insane right now. It’s been about 82 degrees for the last couple of days, it will be in the mid-70’s today and for the next few days, then it’s supposed to be 58 on Saturday. This time of year drives me nuts.
I just discovered DSW and I love it!!! I have to order most of my shoes from their website, because our store doesn’t carry any wide widths. But their rewards program includes free shipping, so it’s all good. And I like their jewelry- it’s a little different from most stores.
Karen says
It drives me nuts too. Do you have seasonal allergies? Mine haven’t kicked in yet but it’s only a matter of time.
You also need to check out the bags at DSW! I’ve seen the same exact bags that are at Nordstrom but for less.
Suzanne C says
On The Weather Channel website, they have a space for each city/area where they display emergency alerts from the National Weather Service, like tornado watches, etc. In that space today, we have a Pollen Alert. The NWS literally issues an official alert about our pollen level every day it gets unhealthily high. We’ve had one every day for about 3 weeks now. It’s like a light layer of yellow snow on our cars.
Oh my goodness, the bags at DSW! I’ve already ordered an adorable black clutch to go with a wrap dress I just got. It was a tough decision; I wanted All. The. Bags.
Karen says
Yeah, it gets that way here too. You know it’s really bad when you can actually see the pollen flying through the air, OMG! Just thinking about it is making my skin crawl.
I have to say that allergy medicine has gotten really good within the last 20 years, though. I would be non-functional if it wasn’t for Zyrtec and Flonase.
Also, I don’t know if you wash your hair everyday, but during allergy season, I make sure to at the very least rinse mine off with water every night before I go to bed. Otherwise I end up sleeping in a pillow full of pollen all night long.

I love DSW because of those $10 checks lol! Combine those with a coupon and you get some serious money off! Did you know about their shoe donation program? For every pair of shoes you donate you get 50 points (one pair per visit). 2 pairs = a $10 rewards check! Go through your closets you can get those Kate Spade flip flops dirt cheap haha!
Also, heads up about Clarks. They are constructed horribly with awful materials. If they are in your closet for more than a year you will put them on and they will fall apart WHILE YOU ARE WEARING them. Whatever they use to construct the shoes disintegrates! This happened to me with 2-3 pairs and to my brother with a pair of snow boots he had (he had to tape them up to get home from work!!). Awful brand that doesn’t stand behind their product. They only offered him a 20% coupon for another pair of crappy shoes.
Karen says
Hi Cindy,
Holy crap, I had no idea about Clarks (the last pair I got was about 10 years ago, and back then they were OK), but more importantly I had no idea about the shoe donation program. Do you know if the condition of the shoe matters? SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!
Kerstin says
Hi Karen! The condition of the shoe doesn’t matter. I have old pairs of tennis shoes that I have worn out at the gym and was going to toss them and ended up donating them to DSW. I believe you get 50 points per visit regardless of how many shoes you donate at one time. I hope this helps!
Karen says
Thank you! I am heading on over there ASAP with some gym shoes. 🙂
Ruchita says
I love your DSW posts! It’s like I’m taking a quick scroll through the store without having to leave my seat. I love the fun socks near the register and I almost always pick up a pair while I’m there. I’m so looking forward to warmer weather!
Tatiana says
OMGosh, we are so different. While you’re saluting the sun, I’m mourning that we’ve probably had our last day of rain for the year already and by the start of next week, I’m gonna be sweating like a farm animal. Sigh. In another month I’ll be worrying about when fire season starts.
So glad there is not a DSW near me. I’d be in there shoe shopping all the time. I want those unicorn socks! Pretty sure my daughter wants them too, along with the bee socks.
Karen says
My daughter wanted them, too, LOL! Unfortunately they didn’t have any little kids sizes.
Believe it or not the nearest DSW is less than 10 minutes away from me! It’s a miracle I’m not there every other day.
Tatiana says
It’s a 5 min drive or 15 min walk to the nearest mall with a Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Neimans, Macys and Sephora. Along with a host of other $$$$ stores. Dear Husband is always nagging me about spending. Sigh. Too much temptation.
Karen says
Oh, that’s wonderful and terrible at the same time! But on the #glasshalffull side, window shopping is always fun, right?
The Sephora near my house is in the same mall as the DSW! There’s also a See’s Candies, a Target, a Nordstrom Rack (although I don’t go there often because it stresses me out) and a Costco. Needless to say I’m there a lot, lol.
Tatiana says
Yup, there’s a See’s in my mall, too. I Do Not go near there. Dear Husband loves the chocolate toffees. I usually put a box of them in his stocking every Xmas. Dear Daughter always finds the best things at the Nordstrom Rack near her house. I can’t deal with the Rack unless it’s online.
Syahidah says
I’m all over those Clarks shoes! I desperately need a small block heel that are nice for summer for my book launch ?
