Love it, love it, LOVE IT! You know how it is with trends, though… Like the frosty brow bone, super skinny brows and early Aughts pale glossy lips (remember when everyone was wearing MAC Oystergirl?), I’m sure the time will eventually come when dewy skin will be considered “over,” but I hope that time never comes, because a dewy finish is the most natural-looking and most forgiving finish on my 40-something skin.
To pull off a matte finish, I have to put in a lot of work (sooooo much buffing and blending), to make it *not* look heavy or textured. So give me the dewy finish of a tinted moisturizer and a demi-matte powder any day of the week.
How about you?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Dewy skin looks great on you! I prefer a matte finish for myself because my skin is oily. The times I have used a sample of a foundation that is supposed to leave a dewy finish, I feel like I look like a greasepile by the end of the day.
Thanks, Rachel!
I prefer matte foundation. Not ultra matte. Demi matte. While matte does help with oil , as an oily skin gal, I cannot make my skin what it is not. Oil is just a part of my life. So while I won’t spend $ on dewy foundation, I have this summer, gone without wearing much base products and just let my oily skin be. I still apply a little concealer under the eye and I dust my face with Bare Minerals Mineral Veil Setting Powder. Otherwise I just blot when needed. I am done fighting with my skin😊
I used to have oily skin back in the day, too! I was all about the mattes once upon a time.
I love dewy skin on others, but I can’t seem to make it work for me. I feel like I just come across looking sweaty or oily. 🙂 But when done right, I think it’s a great look – very fresh and natural.
Do you suppose cats prefer dewy or matte skin? LOL! I like to think that Tabs was into dewy.
Haha, Billy loves to give me kisses by smearing his wet nose on my cheek so I think he prefers dewy. 🙂
It’s settled, then. Unofficially, felines love dewy skin. LOL!
*wearing Oyster Girl today*
DO THE DEW. I am grateful for a naturally dewy complexion, esp. having grown up oily and full of acne/chestne/backne.
I prefer to think of it as just going with whatever my skin is doing, foh-get da trendz. 😉
Wow, what are the odds? Are you wearing it by itself? It’s an oldie but a goody!
Heehee…. I am wearing it atop MAC High Tea (which I purchased based on one of your posts), lined with Hover! 😉
I love the way Oyster Girl looks over breige, nude-ish shades, adds the best visual “glossiness” without being glossy.
Oh, High Tea! I haven’t worn that in a minute! I’m thinking of working my way through all my MAC lippies but I dunno… It’s gonna take forever!
Oh, and P.S., speaking of MAC blasts from the past, remember Prrr?
You look totes adorbs in this photo.
Also, I say dewy is a do. It’s also an easy look for summer when one might be perspiring a bit and naturally dewy.

Thanks babe!
Dewy, all the way. I love dewy skin, but only if one is going for the au-natural look. I have dry combination, smooth skin, with freckles and a few dark spots I’m com combating.
I love layering on skincare for that ‘dewy dumpling’ look and spot concealing.
Spot concealing is life changing. If I had more time for it, I’d do it more often!
I am for dewy skin! Dewy skin for me is fresh, well hydrated skin with natural looking glow, even achieved artificially! I don’t even proceed with makeup if I cannot achieve dewy skin. Also – it’s not like always achieved with hydrated/illuminating products. Yes, that might be the case for winter, spring or fall, but for summer I use more mattifying for dewy look, otherwise I end up with acne, enlarged pores & blackheads.
Matte finish always adds +10 years on my appearance, thus I never go for this!
I’m the same way with mattes, Lelde. I definitely feel like they age me!
Dewy finish on oily skin = oil slick. I prefer as close to a matte finish as possible. If I still get oily afterwards, I can live with that…I use my oil control blotter sheets, but at that point, ppl mistakenly say I am glowing, which is true, glowing in oil.
🙂
I used to have your skin type back in the day (teens and 20s). I was all about Shiseido blotting papers! I never left home without them. 🙂
Depends on how dewy. Matte seems to make me look more lined than I already am. On the other hand, too dewy seems to emphasize my pores and leftover acne pits and scars. So somewhere in the middle works best for me. Demi matte or subtly dewy work best for me.
That’s why I don’t do as much matte these days; I swear it adds 10 years to my face! Tina in the comments mentioned that she likes Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation for a dewy (but not shiny) finish. I want to try it!
I got samples of both the Forever and the Forever Skin Glow and can’t decide between them. The new Forever isn’t as matte as it once was, which is good for me. The Glow isn’t super glowy so I don’t look oily in it. I just feel that the colors in the Glow even though they have the same numbers are a tad darker and pinker/oranger? If that makes sense. I’m really slow to decide on foundations. Might just go get more samples and wear this one more. It has a really nice finish.
Totally makes sense, as I’ve noticed that Dior in general tends to lean pink. It could also be that the new formula oxidizes on you.
You know, foundations are my weakness! I also want to try Josie Maran Vibrancy Foundation too.
Karen, it’s amazing. I never thought I’d spend that much on a foundation, but when I tried it on, it was beautiful, and a perfect shade match!
Dewy yes! Not overdone though in the t zone.
Gotcha. I like a little powder in the t-zone sometimes too, just to take it down a notch. 🙂
My soon to be 47 year old skin is dry, so dewy all the way. I just bought Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation, and it is exactly the finish I wanted. Dewy, but not shiny or shimmery. I’ve had several compliments on my skin since I got this. Not my makeup, but skin!
I’ve heard good things about that one! It’s been ages since I’ve worn a Dior foundation (they do them really well), so I might have to give it a go. Do you set it with a powder or leave it as is?
I set my t-zone ever so lightly with MAC Next to Nothing Powder. The rest of the face is bare.
Dewy, but I have hella dry skin. I don’t wear a ton of shimmer to get that way, I wear a lot of moisturizer, sheer natural-looking base, gel or cream blush, maybe a bit of a natural-looking highlighter but nothing crazy.
Yeah, mine is dry too! Quite a change from my early 30s and 20s and teens, when I was oily 24/7.
I never feel dewy when I try that look; I just feel shiny. Also like I’ve missed a few vital makeup steps. Maybe I just can’t get totally over that 90’s super-matte mindset I grew up with. I would never do a heavy matte now on my over-40 face, but I can’t go dewy, either.
Ahh, I remember the super matte skin of that era. Did you ever use Cornsilk pressed powder? That was my jam back in the day! I also loved Coty Airspun Powder.
Dewy looks great on some people, but I just can’t do it. I had constantly super-oily skin most of my life. Even with changes from menopause, I’m still pretty oily most of the time. So for me, “dewy” = oily. I prefer a matte, semi-matte, or satin finish.
I like dewy. I have oily skin so I have matte foundation and after a few hours I get nice and dewy, but after that it’s just greasy. I do use a primer and it improves texture and perhaps longevity, but nothing fantastic. I’ve tried others and sprays too, but nothing works. At least it helps me look young? lol
I’m pro-glow, especially this time of year, but one must take care not to over-“dew” it!
Love it … because I don’t have a choice, thanks to my oily skin LOL. I hope it never goes out of style. And plus, no one likes dry skin (my skin was sooo dry while I was pregnant it was awful) so bring on all the dewy!
