- You can never leave the house without at least three lipsticks and two lipglosses.
- You have a dedicated stash of neutral eyeshadow palettes, and while most “non-natives” would just see a whole bunch of pans of brown and beige eyeshadow, you can thoroughly break down the differences between each and every palette by undertone, finish, appropriate place to wear, etc.
- You have a collection of several brown, black and/or gray eyeliners, and, as you can do for your neutral eye palettes, you know all the distinguishing factors among them, so you say things like, “Well, that black liquid liner has a matte finish, and this one has a shiny finish, and this other one has a vinyl finish, which is COMPLETELY different than a shiny finish…”
- When your partner says, “Do you really need another coral lipstick/mascara/[insert any product you tend to hoard here]?”, you don’t even hear them anymore… They literally sound like the teacher from Charlie Brown (“Wah-wah-wah-waaaah!”).
- You maintain several tubes of your favorite lipstick stashed in various places (your purse, your car, your jacket pocket).
- All the makeup artists and sales associates at Sephora knowingly nod at you when you walk in, like “What’s up?”
- You’ve experienced makeup shopping blackouts more than once, where you walk into a store and someone sticks a basket in your hand. Next thing you know, the basket is filled to the brim! — where you can barely carry it — and you have no idea/recollection how the items in the basket got there.
- Having a dedicated shelf, drawer or (*ahem*) tote full of foundations makes complete sense to you.
- You have an eye makeup look that continues to elude you, but you keep practicing it on the off chance that you’ll be able to perfect it someday (for me, it’s cut crease).
- You use makeup lingo like it’s your mother tongue, and say things like, “Do you bake? I used to, but I never do it anymore,” and the person you’re speaking to knows you’re not talking about cupcakes.
- You’ve had a HALLELUJAH moment with bronzer at one time or another.
- Your friends and relatives have asked you to help them with their prom, wedding or Halloween makeup.
- Your plan of attack for the Sephora VIB sale is so elaborate, and so thorough, that it requires weeks of intense preparation. 😊
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF! 😁
Ok, so I have to ask – just what is your plan of attack for the Sephora VIB sale? I am only a lowly “Insider”, so I only get 10% off, which hardly seems worth it. It sounds like you are planning something worthy of a military maneuver (so if it is top secret, I totally understand), but I can’t wait to hear about what you end up getting this year. It looks like they have quite a few nice holiday gift sets this time around. Good Luck and Happy Shopping!
I got a couple of their holiday value sets because they are such a good deal! I splurge on these and on black friday, pretty much the only time of year I shop at Sephora.
LOL! Sounds like me, especially with the VIB sale. I actually ended up removing most of my items from the cart because I’m trying to plan ahead with Christmas shopping and for those in my life who could care less about cosmetics.
I have lipsticks in all my purses. I get upset when the one I want is back in the lipstick storage container and not in my purse.
I took a quick inventory of my stash and decided I need to use up some of my skincare before ordering more. I still have like three packs of Shiseido cotton. So far I’ve only ordered one thing from the Sephora VIB sale.
Still searching for the perfect foundation that looks like my skin but better. Doesn’t separate, go patchy or congregate in my pores and lines. And doesn’t make me look like a dried out prune. So I’m still getting samples.
Although, Kinkysweat on YouTube used the Pat McGrath foundation with the new Shiseido Synchro foundation, so I tried that combo and it looked way better then either of them alone. Sigh. I don’t want to have to buy two foundations.
Try the Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation. I adore it. You can layer it, it’s long lasting, but it still looks like me only a polished me.
Even *I* have lip products everywhere. HAHA! I think it’s totally funny when some of my friends and acquaintances think I’m some kind of beauty expert. Not even close – but I do read and retain information from someone who is. 🙂 In fairness, I’ve also gone through a kazillion samples of things over the years so I know what works and doesn’t for me, personally. I guess that’s introduced me to a lot of brands and products that non-makeup people have no clue about.
Happy Friday!
“You maintain several tubes of your favorite lipstick stashed in various places”… just in case one of them falls into the toilet and you need an emergency replacement. 😉
I’m sad to say that I only ordered boring things from the Sephora sale this morning; I replenished our stock of the usual cleansers and pimple treatments. (With two teenagers, can you imagine how much we spend on skincare?!?!) My computer unexpectedly died, so replacing it was a lot of money I hadn’t planned on spending right now. I would’ve much rather used that money at Sephora!
All of these apply to me, especially #1, 5, 6 and 13.
I know everyone at my Sephora and everyone at a Sephora at a mall that’s like 2 hours from my house. Marital status, children, workouts, I know all of it.
Sounds a bit like me, BUT at 6. All the makeup artists and sales associates at Sephora knowingly nod at you when you walk in, like “What’s up?”… I’ve told everyone: If I ever come here, with my husband, I don’t know you, you don’t know me! LOL!
Omg YES. Although the person asking “do you really need another blue lipstick?” Is myself, to myself, when I survey my expansive lippie collection.
Loved this, Karen! Yes, yes, yes and yes 😉

Too funny! I just got a $100 Nordstrom gift card from my gal cousins for my birthday and I was thinking CHANEL! Tough choice 😁. I am thinking of a red lipstick!💄,
Karen all true and I’m guilty .
In about 1985 I had 10 eyeliners . In 2019 I have an exponential number of eyeliners , blushes , lipsticks , and just as many eyeshadows .
I thought about downsizing but it’s too much trouble.
Any suggestions?
All of the above is true lol!
I have lipsticks everywhere, a neutral, a red and a coral in each purse/ car/ bathroom, so I can touch up whatever I need whenever I need.

Makeup lingo! Lemming, back-up, dupe, Holy Grail, FOTD, MLBB etc. are conversation starter terms for us. And we are following so many favorite makeup artists, bloggers and vloggers that we refer to them in the comments by their first names. I’m looking at you, Karen! hahaha
Where’s the lie?!?! LOL!!! So many of these hit too close to home. I know I have a problem but I’m not ready to kick it to the curb. So….. Black Friday….. hahhahhahahah
