More with the ideas! —-> If you haven’t heard, there’s a Sephora VIB sale in November, so I’m highlighting some of my favorite makeup that you can find at Sephora this week.
I’m hell-and-gone addicted to this deep-repair shampoo and conditioner (they’re $25 each) from IGK Bad & Bougie.
The first day I took my hair out into the world after using Bad & Bougie…which, I’m sorry. Every time I see that name I feel like I’m talking about a poodle that needs to be walked.
Anyway! I ran into my HIIT instructor while running errands, and she said the nicest thing you can say to someone obsessed with maintaining a shiny mane. “Wow! Your hair looks like a really expensive drag queen’s wig!”
At that point, guuuurl, I knew it was true love.
Botany moment! — a plant oil called “amla” powers this power couple. It’s normally made by soaking dried amla fruit (otherwise known as Indian gooseberry) in oils, and it’s commonly used as an Ayurvedic hair treatment.
Types of hair it’s good for
- Straight
- Wavy
- Curly
- Coiled
- Tightly coiled
What it is

If you want to know more…
Bad & Bougie Amla Oil Deep Repair Shampoo makes hair stronger immediately and overtime, instantly hydrates, softens, and enhances shine. It’s formulated with amla oil for nourishment and shine, coconut oil for hydration, and conditioning and a patented vegetable protein complex that works from within the hair shaft to build stronger and healthier hair. The lightweight formula deeply repairs even the most dry, damaged, color- or chemical-treated hair—without leaving hair greasy or weighed down. What it is formulated WITHOUT
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Phthalates
What else you need to know
- This product is cruelty-free, color safe with UV protection, and formulated without mineral oil, petroleum and gluten.
Here’s the thing: If you’re already a fan of shampoos and conditioners where a plant oil is the star ingredient, and you’re looking for a set that tames and flattens hair that’s rambunctious and naturally kinda big and wild (which is a common thing with these types of hair products), you won’t get that effect from Bad & Bougie. This shampoo and conditioner will *not* weigh your mane down in any form or fashion.
This combo is all about the bounce-bounce-bounce, and even though it’s hella hydrating, your hair retains big-@ss volume. MASSIVE volume. I love it, obviously, since I subscribe to a “bigger the hair, the closer I can get to achieving magical unicorn status” philosophy.
I have dry, wavy hair that I color to cover up the salt-and-pepper-grays (for now), so I’m always wanting — no, needing MOAR moisture. This combo leaves loads of hydration without weighing my hair down, and I especially like that after I rinse out the conditioner, the strands feel squeaky clean and moisturized, but not coated with three pounds of thick, heavy product.
Bonus: The amber and vanilla scent lingers but isn’t overpowering. Great stuff!
With the 20% Sephora VIB discount, the $25 price for either the shampoo or conditioner comes down to $20. With the 15% Beauty Insider discount, you’ll pay $21.25.

Do you think this would be okay for straight, fine, flat/limp hair? I need some bounce and volume, and I want to try something new.
Karen says
Hi Savannah,
IGK makes a volumizing shampoo and conditioner called 30,000 feet that would probably be a better fit. I haven’t tried it myself but I have used several of their products and I’ve had great results. Do you live near a Sephora? If you do, they should be able to make you a sample to take home and try out first!
Linda Libra Loca says
That is a compliment I would love to receive, but I don´t think any shampoo and conditioner could make my limp tresses resemble a Drag Queens wig.
Karen says
Ha! Too funny.
Lily says
Thanks for the rec Karen. I just tried the Cool Girl Shampoo and Conditioner and I really liked it. The other shampoo I want to try is R + Co Television Perfect Hair. Have you tried that? I’m always looking for something better than Gloss Moderne (so expensive), but I haven’t found one. Also, I got a sample of TF Vanille Fatale from Lucky Scent – you are so right about that one!
Karen says
Hi Lily,
You’re very welcome. Funny you should mention Television because I actually have it on my list of things to test this next week. 🙂 They also have a new leave-in conditioner called Waterfall that I’m excited about.
I’m with you on Gloss Moderne… So pricy but so, so good. I used the shampoo and conditioner years ago and have never forgotten how great it was, but I just can’t get myself to go there again, you know?
How is your sweet Red doing, btw?
Lily says
Red & Star are doing great, thanks! I swear though, the older Red gets, the grumpier he is. LOL
Karen says
Tabs too! He has no tolerance for nonsense any more, it seems. If I don’t pet him exactly the way he wants it, out come the teeth!

Happy Friday! Wow, that’s quite a compliment! I always think your hair looks great since you’re blessed with thickness and tons of it. 🙂 I just got mine colored today and it helps quite a bit with the volume. For a few days. Hope you have a great weekend.
Karen says
Ooh, nice! Did you do it yourself or go to the salon? And ha ha for a few days… 🙂
You have a great weekend, too!
Jennifer says
Would this be good for color treated hair? Love your blog! I have gotten so much things based on your trusty reviews!
Karen says
Hi Jennifer,
I have color treated hair and I LOVE this. It doesn’t strip my color and adds lots of great hydration, which I need especially after a coloring session!
So glad you enjoy the products that I like too. 🙂 What are your go-tos at Sephora? I’m always looking for new things to love.

Sounds like a great line! I wonder though – what’s the point of stating that no parabens are used in the product when there is Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane in there…. ? Other times it’s Methylchloroisothiazolinone. I’d rather take parabens any day.
