Like That Cameo Song, Smashbox’s New Heartbreaker Is Sweet Like Can-Daaaaaay!

January 26th, 2010 by Karen 31 Comments

Y’know, the candy necklaces with the beads? 🙂 I went through a phase where I wore ’em 24/7 (that was many moons ago).

The first time I tried Heartbreaker ($18), Smashbox’s first perfume, it hit me like a candy necklace in the face!

Luckily, it dries down quickly, (30 minutes or so) first into a dessert-worthy mix of vanilla wafers and warm caramel, and ending as a whisper-light gardenia and musk. For an eau de parfum, it really doesn’t last too long (about four hours total), but sweet is definitely the theme all the way.

What’s weird and slightly “heartbreaking” about it? My affection for the bottle (Urk! LOVE the pink ombre and cute little kiss) exceeds my affection for the scent. I think it’s just a little too sweet for me.

You never know about fragrances, though, and how they’ll smell to you. Scent is such a personal thing, and Heartbreaker might play better with your chemistry than I think it does with mine. Keep me posted if you decide to give it a try (maybe on your next trip to Sephora). I’d really like to hear what you think. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. So how was your Tuesday? Did yours feel as long as mine did? I would have to characterize myself today as having been mentally useless after 3, LOL! I think I need to chill tonight and hit the haaay early.

Have you been watching anything good on TV? I’m on the market for a new show. 🙂

I’m really loving the bottle as well, at first I thought it was some sort of gloss! I generally stick with fresh/floral or slightly fruity/floral scents, so I think I’ll pass on this one though.

They do have a rollerball gloss for spring! I wasn’t too wowed by it, but it does look cool.

I usually don’t like overly sweet scents, but when I tried this in store, I liked it! I think it’s more the base notes that I like (gardenia and musk, you said?).

I can’t stand sweet scents so I’ll pass but the packaging is very cute. I just finished the first 3 seasons of Saving Grace. What a fantastic show. I’m bummed that this summer is the final season.

The bottle is too cute but I don’t think the scent will be my thing.
Tuesday was okay. Some of the classes annoying me again but I’ve learned by now to leave that behind once I get home 🙂 It really helps.

I love candy smelling fragrances. I go through lots 🙂 My Tuesday was okay, just been so busy lately that I haven’t got in a good workout this week.

I was really curious about this perfume since I first read about the collection. I like the smell of gardenia but I can’t really put up with all that sweetness in the caramel and vanilla wafers scent.

There is still a TV drought …. last night I watched Law & Order SVU reruns LOL … Tuesday is over. Its Humpday …. may it pass by faster than yesterday did!

Im more and more liking the rollerball packaging for fragrances. It started with the CLEAN rollerballs – its just so convenient and mess free. Im curious about that one too – I mean, vanilla wafers AND caramel? Yum!

How are you feeling? Are you better today?

I can’t usually wear fragrances, because of sensitivities, but food type fragrances I might be able to tolerate, and vanilla wafers and caramel just sound too yummy! I do love the smell of gardenias too – absolutely heavenly!.

My Tuesday started out OK, but got a headache as the day went on, since I am trying to decrease my caffeine intake (Diet Coke addict here). I fell asleep about 5:30 and didn’t even have the energy to make supper, so everyone was kind of on their own. Hopefully, today will be better.

I hope you got some good rest last night! Take care! Other than watching Spongebob or Fanboy & Chum Chum with my son, I don’t watch much TV. However, Spongebob is super funny though!

Decreasing caffeine is rough. Hang in there! After the headache’s go away it’s smooth sailing.

I’m trying to stay away from coffee right now (love how it tastes, hate how it mucks up my sleeping cycle). The first two weeks were bad (lots of headaches) but after I got it all out of my system it was all gravy!

That funny that you mention that — I was never really into rollerball perfumes, but all of the sudden I’ve become fascinated with ’em. You’re right, they’re so convenient!

My Tuesday was fairly easy-going… I worked then went to class at 6pm. Once I got home around 8:30, I made dinner (aka followed instructions to Asian Helper — it was a lazy kind of night), and hopped into the shower before bed! Tonight I think will be a little different. All hell is supposed to break loose with some freezing rain and sleet, then snow’s supposed to come down.

I’m not sure if I’ll be going to class tonight or just straight up surfin’ the web! Maybe I’ll watch some Big Love or Fringe.

I’m all about sweet scents! Aqualina is one of my favs so I can’t wait to smell this one. I really love their rollerball lipgloss and I like that this fragrance is in rollerball form as well – makes it easy to toss in my purse or desk at work!

Hmm, I think I would like smelling like candy. Was the scent harsh at all? What I mean is, did it smell like perfume laced with candy, or just straight up candy?

This sounds like something I would lie to try! I have seen this at Sephora but never bothered to try it. I love the pink vial and the roller ball style application because I can just toss this in my purse and not worry of spills.

i first tried this scent about a year ago. I hadn’t heard anything about it yet so I had no idea what to expect about it.I actually like it, & for some strange reason, it reminded me of the beach.People even told me I smelled like I had been to the beach.I like it & plan on buying it again, i just had a hard time finding it.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick.
