Harajuku Lovers by Gwen Stefani

August 23rd, 2008 by Karen 23 Comments

Hey, girlies! I’m here at the mall killing some time before heading over to the movies to watch Pineapple Express. At Nordstrom I spied Gwen Stefani’s new Harajuku Lovers fragrances. The bottles are just as cute as I thought they’d be, and each scent comes in two sizes. The large 1.0-fl oz bottles cost $45, and the small 0.33-fl oz are $25.

Unfortunately, none of these lil’ cuties will be coming home with mama. I sniffed all five fragrances and found them too fruity and sweet. “G,” the Gwen doll’s scent, smelled exactly like the bag of Hawaiian coconut candy I finished off the other night. Good for my tummy, yes, but not so good as a fragrance.

Turns out I’m not the only person who wasn’t thrilled by these; bellasugar didn’t think too highly of them, either. Le sigh… I really wanted to like these, too.

Oh, snap! I just looked at the clock, and I need to head to the theater (gotta get my popcorn before the show).

Hope you’re having a good evening!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Well that’s not good at all. Do you think I might like these Karen? I was really hoping they would smell nice because I love Gwen Stefani.

    How was the movie?

    Hi Melissa,

You might like them if you like super sweet scents. The fragrance counter lady told me that they sold out of “Love” (the cute one with the hearts in her hair farthest to the left) very quickly in the smaller size. If you’re a hard core fan then perhaps you’ll like that one, as it seems to be very popular. Fragrance is really personal so ya just never know what will move you! 🙂

The movie was really funny and I liked it much more than I thought I would. It had lots of really random humor.

Are you having a good weekend so far?

Wow, that’s some expensive perfumes! $45 for a fl. oz is a bit too much for a celebrity brand, don’t you think? The cute dolls on top probably offset for the price. You’re one die hard beauty blogger, aren’t you? 🙂

    Hi Karen 🙂

Well, that’s a shame… I was hoping I could justify buying one, especially Gwen, but I think there’s enough coconut around here!

I want to check these out. I sort of like them due to the packaging. Is that bad or what?

I am glad that you liked the movie. I want to see it so hope to get around to it soon.

    Enjoy your Sunday!

Uhm.It’s a pity they smell SO sweet. I’m into more floral scents but the packaging is utterly cute, though! The first bottle of the first picture looks lovely 😀
By the way, I almost ended Eclipse yesterday. I’m a bit worried about how fast I’m reading these books. I know how I feel when I end a good story and the “Oh, noes! What am I gonna do with my life now?” feeling. So, maybe you can help me choosing some new books? ^-^
    Hugs!

Hey Karen! Thanks for the cute pics. I still kinda want to check out G, because I love coconut scents and I like sweet scents. I’ll have to see how it does on my skin.

I soooo want to see that movie! Just need to make the time!

It’s a pity they smell so sweet. I was hoping to get one but I don’t like very sweet fragrances so I’ll pass. The packaging is super cute though.

    Hi Karen,
I totally agree with you. I am too old for baby dolls and certainly too old and over it to smell fruity!!!! I prefer a little more sophistication…. And how was your Saturday? I saw a lot of summer sale items and I was so good and did not buy a thing except. . . . . for Dear Doggy. Petey the bad Cairn Terrier. I went to Petco and bought him a little faux sheepskin mat for when he sleeps in the kitchen so he can be more comfortable than just lying on the floor. And I also bought some squirrel food. I am scoping out a squirrel feeder that attaches on to the tree. I have been feeding them from a little bowl on the front steps outside of my kitchen so that I can watch them as I coffee and breakfast. Since I live in the city, the squirrel has drawn more than squirrels. And they are in the same “family” and the family has even come into my house. Rats and mice are fine on the outside, just don’t come inside which they did. We trapped them humanely without killing them. And let them out in a different neighborhood. hahahahahah That is when Mr. Tabs comes in handy!!!!! Louise

    Hi Dao,

Yeah, you’re definitely paying for the cuteness rather than volume. How are things on your end? Everything okay?

    Hi Tiera,

Ya never know… you might end up really liking a scent or two! 🙂 Fragrance is so personal, and I’ve got kind of a freaky sense of smell, so while this didn’t appeal to me it might still work for you.

    Hi Marisol,

I was drawn to these originally because of the packaging, too! I think Gwen will end up making a sh*tload of money because of the cuteness factor.

Hope you’re having a good one!

    Hi Eru,

You are zipping through those books, girl. I totally know that feeling, too. You want to see what happens next, but also don’t want the story to end. The last series I enjoyed was the Uglies series, by Scott Westerfeld.

And if you can’t get enough of Stephanie Meyer, then grab the The Host . It’s an EXCELLENT book!

    Hi Tiffany,

If you like the sweet scents then you might really like ‘Lil Angel, which smells like pineapple candy! 🙂

    Hi Louise Gray,

Oh no! Tabs would be happy to offer his services, LOL, but right now he’s asleep in the living room. The lazy bum!

Everything is fine at least for now. It rained very heavily for 2 consecutive days and I was trapped inside the apartment. Then last night it stopped raining for 1/2 hr and I went grocery shopping just to get caught in the rain on the way back. Plus I didn’t get any food either since there were only 4 cashiers and about 1/2 the town went for food (or at least it looked like it!) Being in a hurricane is something I will remember for the rest of my life.

The scents are fruity? I’m in!
And this is going to sound really weird, but the packaging reminds me of the Playmobil figurines…

Thanks for the update Karen! I’ll go and check these babies out this week. I wouldn’t mind getting one of the smaller ones as a collector’s item. Too bad the scent isn’t equally as good as the packaging. I watched PE a few weeks ago. James Franco is hilarious!

    Hi Lehea,

You’re welcome! 🙂 I thought the movie was really funny… I keep thinking of random lines throughout the day and I just keep cracking up. I wonder if most of it was improvised cause there were so many moments that just were so OUT THERE (“I used to carry this lil’ gun when I was a prostitute!”). LOLOLOLOLZ… who thinks of that stuff?
