NARS Daphne and Eye: A Monday Face of the Day

July 19th, 2010 by Karen 62 Comments

We’re almost there. That’s it up ahead — the Monday finish line — and we’re about to cross it together. 🙂

How was your day? Good, I hope.

Mine wasn’t bad as far as Mondays go. I rode my bike for the first time in forever over my lunch break (hello, sore booty!) and had a grand old time experimenting with the new NARS Daphne eyeshadow.

Remember it from the NARS fall 2010 collection? The pretty purple girl?

Oh, she’s quite the charmer… If you like sheer purple matte shadows, beware; she could rock your boat. I took her out for a spin today, and now I’m smitten.

Daphne and Eye: A Monday Face of the Day

The Eyes

The first thing I did was find my flat eyeshadow brush…which turned out to be the hardest part of this look (it was hiding in a purse)! With the brush (a MAC 239), I packed several layers of Daphne on my lids, drawing the color up into the crease. Next, I swept the shimmery golden brown side from the NARS Rajasthan duo, another new product for fall, into the crease and up a bit to the brow bone (I like how the shimmer contrasts with Daphne’s matte finish).

Then, to define the whole eye and tie it all together, I lined the upper lash line with the shimmery dark blue shadow from the same duo (Rajasthan), and lined the lower lash line with Coconut Grove (another eyeshadow from the fall collection).

The Lips and Cheeks

Smokey purple eyes without coordinating cheeks and lips are like Salt without Pepa, or Keith without sweat. To make sure Daphne wouldn’t feel lonely, I brushed NARS Sin blush onto my cheeks and a mix of NARS Strawberry Fields and NARS Greek Holiday lipglosses on my lips (Question: Do you ever wear multiple lipgloss colors?).

What kind of makeup did you wear today? Whatever you did (even if you went au naturale), here’s a *virtual high five* for making it through Monday in one piece. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Love this look on you. Also really dig that necklace. I’ve been trying to ease into more fun jewelry and I’m thinking necklaces are the way to go. With all my hair it is hard to tell I have ears most days so I figure earrings won’t get me far.

I took a walk on the wild side (for my conservative makeup/no makeup office) and went with an olive eye. Loved it. Used my fab $3 Ulta Olive eyeshadow. It is more of an olive-nude but definitely whet my appetite for something a little bolder.

I let the fun continue when I went to pick out my new glasses. Since I mostly wear my contacts to work I figured I could have a little fun. They are tortiseshell from the front but the rims and inner part of the frames are a lovely aqua-green. They are noticeable but not GREEN. Definitely perks my face up and goes well with my green eyes. Who knows, I might start wearing them more often.

I’m a huge necklace fan. I usually get mine on sale table at Macy’s, but you can find some great individual pieces on Etsy. For higher end stuff, I love Hovey Lee:

      http://www.hoveylee.com/catalog/

Your glasses sound so cute! Do you have a pic of ’em? I actually need to get new frames and am looking around for something sassy.

BTW, I’ve been meaning to tell you I made your spinach/peach/bacon salad. It was soooo yummy! Thank you again for the recipe.

Gorgeous! I really love the teal in that duo.

I have a little L’Oreal HIP duo in purple & mauve that I seldom use and when I was packing my gym bag last night I decided I would play with it today, but some reason it just didn’t go well and I ended up with a subtle brownish purplish semi-smoky eye. My lips started the day with Clinique Black Honey and Philosophy Red Velvet gloss, but midway through the day I switched to Nymphette.

I have to pack a lot of options in my makeup bag, haha!

I’m the same way. If I don’t have at least three lipglosses in my purse I feel like the world is askew.

Clinique Black Honey is an old school love of mine. Next time you’re at the drugstore pick up Wet n’ Wild’s 666 lip pencil (yes, that’s the real name)… it looks GREAT with Black Honey!

ooh I love this combo, I wish Nars Daphne was brighter though. your hair looks really good in these pictures. I went to get my picture taken at the DMV today, so I dug up that old post you did that I’d bookmarked like ….a year and a half ago, which is when I should have gone in for my permit. thanks for that btw, it was super helpful. I used a wash of brassy gold cream shadow on my lids with a soft brown liner and some mascara. my picture turned out ok! except no one was smiling so I was like ehh…am I supposed to smile? I look a wee bit mad in my picture, but other than that it’s pretty good

Ahh Monday! I knew I wasn’t going to make it without coffee, so this morning I hit up Starbucks. The girl at the drive through asked to see my ID (with my card), and then looked at my makeup-free face. “You don’t look at all like your picture,” she said. “Maybe next time, {pause} makeup?”

      Hi Babybubblz,

It’s not as easy to blend as a neutral matte, but it’s a lot more user-friendly than other bright mattes I’ve used in the past. I think it’s because of its sheerness.

      Hi Paris,

I like to do coral on the lid and blend a warm brown into the crease. If it’s still too much coral try a warm brown on the crease, coral on the outer half of the lid and a shimmery gold on the inner half. 🙂

I wore Cargo eyequad in Baja (filched from Mom’s makeup “stash”), Stila eye kajals in onyx (upper lashline) and sapphire (lower 1/4th of my lower waterline) and L”Oreal Waterproof Voluminous mascara on my eyes, and Stila convertible colors in Gerbera (cheeks) and Petunia (lips). I wore sunscreen and tm as well, but this is really made up for a summer day. I’m not one who fiddles with bright colors and crazy looks in summer. Too hot and too humid (welcome to Chicagoland!). Bright colors and crazy looks are for fall, winter and spring!

I like Voluminous but I hate that when I first open the tube, I get TONS of product. It’s so annoying!

In other news, Zena BRUISED me today. We were playing and she scratched my upper left arm. However, instead of her scratching the skin, it’s like they passed the skin and bruised up my arm. I have 3 angry blotchy red marks surrounded by purple! No more playing like we were until she gets her nails trimmed, that’s for sure!
