Face of the Day with Stila’s Red Carpet Looks Palette

September 18th, 2008 by Karen 36 Comments

Heya, ladies! What’s shakin’? I just got home from work and wanted to share the look I wore to the office today. It’s a subtle, smokey, purple, pink and taupe eye (what a mouthful!) done using products from Stila’s Red Carpet Looks palette.

Self-imposed makeup lockdown came to an end a few days ago when I spotted the palette on sale for $15.20 at Beautycrunch.com. Isn’t the “magazine” cover cute? Inside are three shadows, a blush and a lipgloss.

Stila Red Carpet Looks

  • Shell eye shadow: light, shimmery pink with glitter
  • Puck eye shadow: shimmery taupe
  • Dahlia eye shadow: matte, dark purple
  • Fade blush: matte tan
  • It Gloss in Sweet: a shimmery coral-pink lipgloss

I like to wear a lil’ color to the office but can’t go over the top, ya know? I’ll gladly push the envelope, but I can only push it so far before getting in trouble. I think the shadows that come with this kit are great work shades — colorful but not draggy.

Tonight I’m heading into SF for the annual Macy’s Passport charity fashion show. I went last year and had a blast. No interviews scheduled this time around, but I’m bringing along my trusty camera and reporter’s notebook, so hopefully I come away with some good photos and maybe a makeup tip or two for the blog.

We’re almost to Friday. Looks like we made it! 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

The only way that I can describe this look is breathtaking. Srsly. you look amazing! I am trying really hard to be good with my make-up spending but this kit looks so nice. I work on a pretty conservative office environment but I too constantly push the envelope. 😀

    Have fun tonight!

Hi Karen. This is a very pretty and soft look. I love your blouse too. I have a soft spot for this colour and sleeves like this. The thing is, Stila is pulling out from Singapore (the last counter was gone beginning this month). Seems that it can’t compete with it’s competitor, Benefit Cosmetics. Benefit Cosmetics launched here last year and I guess it captured the market of fun, girly makeup, as what you wrote about in the Rock & Republic post. Anyway, I can’t wait to hear about Macy’s Passport. =)

BTW, CoC launched here on 8 Aug and I bought Tempting eye quad and all l/g except for Rich & Ripe. I love the lipglasses of this collections!

    Hi Marisol,

Thanks hon! This is a great kit. I actually ended up wearing it tonight; I went a bit more bold by wearing black liner and making it a bit more smokey… So versatile! The show is about to start!

    Hi Miss QQ,

Yay! What do you think of your quad so far? And what is your fave lipgass?

The show hasn’t started yet… They are doing a charity auction right now and a bidding war just ended where a guy just spent $18,500 on a Keith Haring print, OMG! Now Dame Edna is on stage!

Ah Stila, it forever has a special place in my heart… (although I do wish their Major major mascara came in waterproof… lol)

I’m so glad you are feeling the stila love! Their eyeshadows are in the top 2 for me, right behind shu. I have shell and I think dahlia (I have a dark, matte purple but can’t remember the name, this must be it). Try using the dahlia with mac’s violet pigment….I pack violet on the lid then add dahlia as smokey liner….mmmm! And I love the it glosses, don’t have sweet though.

BTW, I found a great lippie combo today you might be interested in. Pixi purity lip blush + mac Viva glam VI lipglass. 🙂 and YAY, it’s Friday!!! woo hoo.

Karen, I love your top. It’s so feminine.

Sad news: I went into Sephora last week (at Valley Fair) and the Stila section was gone! I couldn’t figure out what line took over is real estate, but it totally made me sad. I wanted to try their concealer! They had a small display on the end of the aisle, but it was mostly lipgloss.

    🙁

    Hi Karen,

I didn’t do too much damage on Beautycrunch.com but I could not pass up those Stila palettes! I got the night flower in Blu-Orchid, a rouge pot, a DuWop lip pencil (hopefully it won’t dry my lips out), and a Senna lip lacquer, the color just looked so pretty. Now I just have to wait for them to arrive! Thanks for introducing me to that site! Looks like everyone is getting make-up for Christmas!

super cute makeup loving the look and the outfit – its very NYC CHIC !

so please let me pick your brain

what camera are you using i am very intrigued because you get such wonderful reflections in your eye close ups

i am in the market for something good and super compact – i am currently working with a 5 mp sony with a very big carl zeiss lens – still works great but not functional as it is not fitting into my purse unless i opt to look like a bag lady with multiple bags

let me knwo when you can

as much as i am not a fan of stila’s shadow textures you are def tempting me

The only thing I’ve ever used from Stila is lipgloss. Thanks for broadening my horizons! Are you wearing the gloss from the set in the pic? You look sensational 🙂

    Hi Erin,

I bought it years ago from Banana Republic on sale. I think it’s from 2004 or 2005. I used to be a fashionista back then and I have several nice pieces circa that era. Now that I mostly work from home I am straight up bum, LOL.

    Hi Amanda,

Oh! I will try that combo next. I was thinking to try it underneath a Paint Pot or Smudge Pot to make it even more smokey. Yay, time for makeup experiments.

When I get Purity Lip Blush I will def. try that combo. I *lurve* the lip blushes with gloss on top!

    Happy Friday!

    Hi P. Potter,

Thanks girlie! OH NO regarding the MIA Stila section. What the heck are we going to do?!?!

I will freak out if the one at my nearby Sephora goes missing. Then again, maybe it’s better that I not get addicted…

    Hi Tatiana,

Yay! You’re welcome. I took a good look at the Blu-Orchid palette and I hemmed and hawed for a good 20 minutes. I took it out of my cart and then put it back in a few times. I didn’t end up getting it. Let me know when you get your stuff and if you like it. I just might end up picking it up. 🙂

I wish more of my homegirls were beauty nuts. I could get soooo much shopping done on that site!

    Happy Friday!

    Hi YadiQ,

Thanks, girlie! You know I’ve always wanted to live in a place like NYC or Paris where everybody has serious style… instead I’m stuck in Marin where everybody wears sleeveless fleece, ha ha ha.

Anyways, I’ll be sending you an e-mail. 🙂

Yup, that’s the gloss that came with the kit. It’s non-drying, too, which is nice. I really like it on top of MAC Sublime Culture liner. 🙂

Oooh yes, my Icon eyeshadow. thank god I was able to salvage it as a loose e/s. I’ll have to revisit again one of these days. I love its colour (and it’s fab name… hehe)

Today is a simple look. I bought a new dress by Compoir des Cotonniers and damn it’s fierce. I love it ^^
