Face of the Day: Olive Green and Purple Eye

March 13th, 2008 by Karen 67 Comments

With Eversun Beauty Powder Blush and Strobe Kiss Tinted Lip Conditioner, MAC did not let me down. After work I spent the afternoon playing with makeup. Hey, sometimes it makes total sense to take half an hour to apply makeup instead of tackling your to-do list. Some days are like that. Check out the fruit of your girl’s lazy afternoon:

031308-fotd21.jpg

I paired Eversun and Strobe Kiss with a green and purple eye. This took a lil’ longer than my standard 10-minute makeovers. It looks subtle, but there was lots of blending and eyeliner. Time flies when you’re having fun!

031308-fotd-eye-1.jpg

031308-fotd-eye2.jpg

To get this look I used a mix of products from a number of lines: Shu Uemura, Laura Mercier, Prescriptives and Lancome.

Lid
– MAC Layin’ Low Paint Pot
– Shu Uemura Eyeshadow #1 from the Enchanting Charisma Holiday Palette
– Prescriptives Gold Dust 75 Colorscope Eye Color (inner half of lid)

Crease
– MAC Layin’ Low Paint Pot
– MAC Soft Brown Matte Eyeshadow

Browbone
– MAC Layin’ Low Paint Pot
– Shu Uemura M Beige 800 Eyeshadow

Brows
– MAC Concrete Eyeshdaow

Lashes
– Lancome Black Definicils Pro Mascara (upper and lower)

Lower lash line
– MAC Brownborder Technakohl Eyeliner
– Shu Uemura Eyeshadow #2 from the Enchanting Charisma Holiday Palette

Upper lash line
– MAC Brownborder Technakohl Eyeliner

Undereye circles
– Dior Long-Wearing Moisturizing Concealer in 430
– Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder #2

Face
– Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer in Almond
– Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder

Cheeks
– MAC Eversun Beauty Powder Blush

Lips
– MAC Strobe Kiss Tinted Lip Conditioner

Green eyeshadow has become my favorite shade of the moment, and I plan to pair both Eversun and Strobe Kiss with a few more greens from my stash. How do feel about green shadow? Love it? Hate it?

I did a little more this afternoon than just playing with my makeup. I made some new files…

crazy-people-file.jpg

I took pictures of these weird lemons I got for free…
weird-lemons.jpg

I also scanned a few random snaps, including this one of Jordan Knight (New Kids on the Block, circa 1994, back when he was hot) given to me by my college roommate eons ago…

jordan-knight.jpg

If they gave gold medals for wasting time, I’d be an Olympic champion for sure.

How was your day? I hope it was productive, so I can vicariously live through you!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I went skiing all day with a bunch of “crazy people”! I love my skier friends because they have so much energy and we had a blast just messing around and getting excited over every run. Best of all, I got to hang out with my Australian crush! When he jumps off cliffs my heart skips a beat.

I LUV green shadows; they are so fun to play with. My favorite is MAC Aquadisiac.

    Hi Amanda P,

Sounds like fun! I am not a snow person (low tolerance for the cold, I’m such a wimp) but your friends sound like a great group to hang with! How cute that you got to hang with your crush, too! How long have you known him? What do you like about him? Details, girl! 😉

I have never tried Aquadisic, but have heard that it’s one of those MAC cult faves. It’s now on my list of greens to scope out (along with Lucky Jade Shadestick!).

I’m lovin’ the look, especially the lower lash line (such blending skills you have)! Tres fab! I did a shiny spring look today with Perky and Family Silver! It came out really nice! Finished with a cheery pink blush (Clinique Cupid) and Strawbaby lippie and I was hot to trot!

I love the olive green! So gorgeous, as usual! I have a couple of greens, but they’re not this particular shade – more bright and forest greens. But I love and I want to try it now!

My day was pretty lazy, I just worked and had dinner and drinks with my coworkers. Now I’m getting ready to pack for my long weekend in Orange County – my auntie is getting married!! 🙂

My day had been well-spent. My sister was leaving for Melbourne so we spent almost the whole day eating at the restaurant, beating the horrible traffic to pick up her tailor-made dresses, trying out gazillions of clothes at my favorite shop who has 50% off sale, buying just one dress (oh the relief! I was afraid I might go back with tons of new clothes), and then catching up (again) on the Project Runway season 4 at home, wearing my new dress.

Love the green eye look. It always takes me so much time to blend that I usually wear only one colour when going to class.
Maybe that has something to do with the fact I usually sleep late when I have to be there at 8.30 am…
Anyways, love the blog, and nice to find another Karen online 🙂

Aussie and me are both ski instructors at the resort. He is a children’s ski instructor and is super kind, patient, and fun. He’s one of those people that never gets angry and you wonder how it’s possible for someone to be that upbeat all the time. He is a full-time ski bum (I’m only a part-time bum- I’m in college full-time), and comes to America during Australia’s summer. That means he leaves in two weeks! Boo hoo.

    Hi Clueless Cat,

Thanks! On the bottom lower lash line I used the MAC 219 pencil brush. I have a love/hate relationship with it. I bought it originally to use in the outer V and for detailed crease work, but I can’t really get it to work in either of those ways, so I only use it as a smudge brush on the lash line.

It’s Friday so I’m feeling good, and I’m excited about tackling my to-do list. Hope you’re having a good day so far!

What single colors do you usually wear on your eyes? When I’m in a hurry I’ll often just use one color on the lid and blend it into the crease, or I’ll throw on a wash of a color or some MAC Paint Pot!

(sounds like I have multiple-persons disorder or however you call it – lol)

Well, usually natural goldenish colours. I love my Stila eyeshadow (mostly Icon and Barefoot Contessa) and I also have this silvery eyeshadow that I used to use as a liner.

Haven’t tried MAC paint pots as there’s only a MAC store in Antwerp since last year or so. (I know, not a lot of make-up brands here in Belgium unfortunately – or they’re pricey for my student budget)

Ooh-I love purple and green, but have never paired them together. I usually do shades of purple, shades of green, etc. Your combo looks so lovely. I was just eyeing those strobe lippies on mac’s website, and wondering about them. I love SPF lip products for summer when I’m outside. I was thinking about both Kiss and the more pink one…can’t recall the name at the moment. I will look for your review post, yay. 🙂 This week has been super, super, busy with work, but today is going to be better. I’m planning a Target run at lunch then dinner with friends later. I’m bare faced at work today (gah!). I decided I needed the extra sleep….but I’m gonna do a smokey eye when I get home for our night out. 🙂

My ultimate goal is to work in southern Cali for an action sports company doing PR or marketing. All the big ones are headquartered down there (Quicksilver, Volcom, Oakley, etc.) Do you ever incorporate the skate/surf clothes into your wardrobe? Clothing cos like Roxy and Element have some pretty dang cute stuff, especially for summer.

Paint Pots are great for those lazy days. They apply pretty easily and last all day. If I were to narrow down my collection to just one for the laziest days then for sure it would be Indianwood, a gold shimmer!

I have played with Stila shadows at Sephora but don’t own any! I know lots of girls that love ’em though.

I love green shadows. Great job (as usual), loved your blending and the way the colors fanned out, and your combo with the lower lashline.

Gotta ask this: what’s that shirt you’re wearing? I heart it!

To answer your question (to the other Karen) about the best time to visit Belgium—depends on the season you’re after…spring, summer and fall are wonderful seasons (though rain can be the enemy sometimes). Essentially, May to September are good times. Latter part of September can start to get cold. But it’s also at this time when leaves start to turn and the fall colors are just so magical.

I know because I lived there for 7 years before heading out here. 🙂 Go and be inspired. Antwerp really is fashion central (Hello, Dries Van Noten!).

I’m up early today (it’s 8:00 am my time) to go into SF to meet a friend. I may go and try to go to a hip hop class at my old dance studio if I get around to it also while I’m in the city. When I get home I’ll probably go grab lunch and then work from home! Nothing too exciting!

LOL, I can’t remember the exact type of lemon it is. I go to this gelato place down the street from work where they make all the gelato on site. Just added an initial after my name so we could distinguish.

I love Stila’s shadows, they’re very longlasting and they don’t migrate. They are expensive, but a little treat to me.

I’ll try to get my hands on a MAC Paint Pot once I get to antwerp. Any colour recommandations? I’m a rather fair skintype though.

As for visiting Belgium I’d recommend spring or autumn. It’s just not as busy as in summer and winter’s usually not really nice. Do be prepared with raingear as it pours down quite often. In the end there are always tourists in Belgium (especially if you go to the touristy cities) and Bruges is, well, a must. Do drop by to say hello when you come (I live about 20mins drive from Bruges or 15 mins on train)

    Hi Ping,

Thanks my dear! Aww, you should get yourself some green shadow! It’s a fun way to switch things up!

    Happy Sunday 🙂

    Hi Karen B.,

Thanks for the travel info. I’d love to go in the autumn to see the changing colors. There are so many places I want to visit and my list just keeps growing!

As for Paint Pots, you might like Cash Flow, a green gold with gold pearl, from the recent Fafi release. Painter. Another Fafi one to try is Perky, it’s a very pretty light pink. If you want an all purpose one that you can use with several different colors, then Bare Study is a fantastic choice, a champagne with gold and white pearl.

    Hi Susanne,

Thanks, hun! Do you have any favorite greens? I feel a need to increase my green eyeshadow stash!

My favourite greens are Swimming and Wondergrass by MAC. For summerlooks I combine them with yellow shades like Going Bananas or Chrome Yellow.
But I also like Humid and Juxt.

Oooh, I like green things (goes well with my green-grey eyes).
I’ll probably try Cash flow and Bare study. I’ll let you know how it goes.

    Hey K!

I wanted to reply to you earlier, but didn’t really have time as I thought every minute counted in terms of studying. Thanks for the exhortation, by the way. 🙂 I had the last exam today (geography), which means that my 12 years of studying are finally over. I only have to wait for to get my results next month (I think) and then it’s the graduation party on May 31. Can’t wait! Till then I’ll be free as a bird. Tomorrow I’ll finally get to see MAC and hopefully will do some cool finds. I don’t have that much money to spend on this time, but even a new lipglass would do! 😉 I’m hoping to find something pretty for me from the FAFI collection, provided they have something left there at the counter.. 😛

To tell you the truth, I’ve never tried any pigments.. *blush* Should I? 😀 You know, as soon as I saw you wearing Jungle on one of your FOTDs, I felt like trying it! Yes, we do have Rimmel here, but, unfortunately, not that shade :/ Bohoo. I suppose what we get is the basics and all the pretty colors are out of the question. Oh well.

Sounds like you had a nice weekend (apart from the working part). Did you ever go to the hip hop class? 🙂

Enjoy your evening, I’m off to bed now!

Haha I love this post, the random pic of free lemons & the stalkery Jordan Knight pic. Plus of course, FOTD.
