Face of the Day: Chanel Smoky Eye Quad

October 1st, 2008 by Karen 44 Comments

Heya, ladies! I had a couple extra minutes to get ready for work this morning (meaning I didn’t wait until the last minute) and tried this look with the Chanel Smoky Eye Quad.

The more I use this quad, the more I fall in love. It’s probably one of the most user-friendly (user-friendliest?) smokey eye sets I’ve seen in ages.

Also up in the mix are Chanel Joues Contraste blush in Enchanteresse, Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in Crazed and Cargo Blu Ray pressed powder (review to follow).

How’s your hump day been? Can you believe it’s already October? You hear a lot about how time flies, but I think it even speeds up as we get older. I remember being a kid and thinking the summer would never end. Now, it’s like I blink twice and *POOF!* the summer’s gone. Someone stole my summer, and I want it back, LOL!

So what are you wearing for makeup today? Whatever it is, I hope it’s fierce! 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

It’s so gorgeous! You look great! 😀

I can’t believe it’s already October but this means it’s getting closer to my birthday (27th) so I also get really excited!

All I’m wearing is my foundation, I didn’t feel like wearing makeup today but I’ve been wearing my black lipstick since I got it earlier today, lol!

I love the smokey eye! I tried again last night and looked a little like marilyn manson on a bad day. I rubbed it off, tried again but tried to keep the makeup from going everywhere and when I decided it wasn’t spread out enough, I smudged a bit. Then the boyfriend asked my why I was crying and I gave up.

Today’s makeup is Chanel Pro Lumiere foundation in Shell, Benefit Get Even pressed powder in medium, DiorShow Blackout mascara, Urban Decay eyeshadow in chopper, Almay eyeliner in black, Benefit Dallas blush, and Dior Kiss lipgloss in Hawaii Coco.

Looking forward to the review of the Cargo Blu Ray!!

I need a great lipgloss with staying power. Any suggestions, Karen?

Wow. That looks really good! I always tread slowly when it comes to black eyeshadow because my skin is so fair. I feel like it can look really harsh on me. But you make it look effortless!

I’m wearing bare escentuals today, and some Stila eyeshdow & mascara. Pretty basic, but still put together.

I’m SO glad it’s finally October. Yesterday I woke up and thought, “Yay! September is over!” Only to remember that it was actually Tuesday (not Wednesday), and one day further away from Halloween. I hate when that happens.

I love the fall. I can’t wait for the weather to catch up to the season.

    Hi Ms. Britt,

Are you a MAC girl? By far the best for staying power is Lipglass, however, lots of people have issues with the texture. Liplass is very sticky, but it lasts *forever*!

    Hi P. Potter,

I feel the same way about black eye shadow. I’m still learning how to use it properly, but I’ve found that one way to avoid any starkness is layering.

I’m glad it’s October, too! Fall is probably my favorite season!

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!!! This is so beautiful and yet still kinda simple (or maybe you just make it look easy). I’m definitely looking forward to that Cargo Blu Ray review; I’ve been wondering about their products ever since I saw a mattifier (I’m sure that’s not the actual name) that looked pretty promising, especially for someone like me whose nose resembles an oil slick most of the time!

Oh and is it just the picture or are the tones in the smoky eye quad sort of blueish? In the first smokey eye you did, it looked like simple greys, but in this post the shadows look sort of blue-hued. But then again it could just be my bad eyesight…

You are making me want this quad so bad! I think I just might be hitting up Nordies this weekend…

Today I sported the Dior Gaucho palette. I worked that purple and taupe!

I too am shocked that it is October. I really love fall and winter though. Am I crazy? I’m excited to see holiday stuff coming in though. Holiday gift sets make me happy:)

Hey Karen! I bought this quad yesterday! I decided to get it because I was wearing the new black dress but wearing purple eyeshadows, and I thought it would be great if I have smoky eyes. I’ll try it out this Saturday. Thanks for your FOTD. I have been kicking myself for not getting Enchanteresse blush earlier this spring, so I’ll have to try other combi.

The black silk dress is like a baby doll dress, good for hiding those wide hips LOL.

    Hi Miss Fred,

The tones are grey and black. I think the blue is a combo of things — I used MAC Smolder underneath (which tends to look blue-black on me) and my skin really brings out the blue in most colors.

Have you tried using a primer on your nose? I’ve found that helps to control oil! I had very oily skin for years (still do, but now I’m combo), so I feel ya pain!

    Hi Laurie,

I love fall… but winter is another story. I love all the changing leaves, scarves, hot cups of cocoa by the fire, etc., but I can’t hang when it gets *too* cold. And I’m from California (total weather wimp), LOL!

I am really excited about the holiday releases, too. I will feel like a kid in a candy store at the makeup counter!

    Hi Miss QQ,

Girl, you know I love wearing baby doll dresses to occasions where there’s food. That way I won’t have to loosen the belt after eating, if ya know what I mean. 🙂

I can’t wait to hear about your smokey eye! If you think of any neat ways to work this palette or other combos let me know… I am sorta stuck on this look for now, but am always try somethin’ new. I’m thinking of combo-ing it with a few MAC Paints and perhaps a Benefit cream shadow next!

Have a great rest of your week!

Today my FOTD was Too Faced Shadow Insurance, MAC Bare Study on the lid, MAC Soft Brown e/s, L’Oreal Flamboyant (yellow & purple color) yellow on the lid, purple on the outer crease, MUFE black liner on waterline & DiorShow.

    Hi Karen,

This looks great on you! I was looking at this quad at the store but I decided to buy their La Ligne Professional Eyeliner Duo. Have you tried it? It’s similar to this quad but it’s a cake liner and shadow so the colors work when wet and are very, very dark and intense. I think you might like it, it’s a little expensive but it’s truly beautiful!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
