A Monday Face of the Day with the New Laura Mercier Luxe Colour Portfolio for Holiday 2011

October 24th, 2011 by Karen 57 Comments

laura mercier luxe colour portfolio

Okay, so I haven’t figured out why the new $98 Laura Mercier Limited Edition Luxe Colour Portfolio palette comes in a faux snakeskin box, but I do think there’s something mysteriously luxurious about it.

Part of Laura’s new holiday collection, it combines the… Yeah, I’m drawing a blank on the snakeskin holiday thing, but nonetheless, here’s a super quick face of the day. 🙂

The palette comes with six non-venomous powder eyeshadows, three cake liners, three powder blushes and three eye brushes, and it’s available now at Laura Mercier counters and also online.

Review/swatches, and perhaps a decent holiday snake reference, coming soon!

Oooh, this looks so pretty on you, it’s perfect! Also you skin looks extra amazing, is this a new foundation?

I’ve decided I’m allowed one holiday pallette/set/splurge, and I’m thinking it’ll be a Mac brush set ( I only own one MAC brush, and im in the need for brushes anyways, plus I like travel size brushes). So I probably won’t be splurging for this, but I loooove the colors!

The full sized ones are more durable though, I’ve been buying a brush every couple of months to slowly grow my collection. They last for years.

I agree with Fieran. The brush sets that come out in collections are machine made and not hand-made like the full sized ones. They are not the good Mac quality you’re thinking. The brush sets are how much? $50? If you’re located in the US you’re better off getting two full-sized brushes that you know will last you years and you will use everyday.

Or, how about a sigma travel sized set for $50? I got one of them in black and the brushes are all pretty good. Use them equally as much as my Mac full-sized.

Thanks for the advice! Would you say sigma is better than MAC travel sets, ignoring price point? I checked out the sigma sets, and I’ve been looking t sigma for some time now, But the MAC set just had more of what I need in it. Also I work at Macy’s and if I buy on the right day I can get 30% off bringing it to like $35, but now I’m not so sure.
Maybe I’ll get just the sigma brushes I want (crease blending brush, blush brush/powder brush, domed synthetic skunk brush, etc) and get a set of MAC pigments instead!

Laura, you never disappoint 🙂 Everything she comes out with is polished and classy (and a win!). However, I am not particularly a fan of big palettes like this because I find them clunky and taking up too much space. Plus I get sticker shock even though sometimes it’s a better value…. :/

I have to agree! Your complexion is gorgeous! =D Did you wear a different foundation? Is it PInkberry’s, or slewing the vomiting triceratops that gave you that special, inner glow? Hee hee…

And I also like this look on you – it’s probably my favorite in the past few weeks (not that you weren’t ravishing in the other ones, hee hee, just this one I liked more!). ^_^

Thanks for the nice comments on the foundation, guys!

I’m wearing good ol’ MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation in NC42 w/Careblends Pressed on top.

It’s been a while since I’ve taken it out for a spin… now I remember why I love it so much.

What foundation did you wear today?

In other news, good to have you back! I bet Tabs is happy, too. Is he still in his extra lovey phase of when you return from trips?

I have always ogled at the beautiful holiday palettes of Laura Mercier but never bought one. I only ever bought one of the Signature Toolbox when it went on half price after the holiday season. And one eye kohl set. Reason….no matter how pretty, I just cannot justify the price, the High price tag!

But I have always loved the African Violet eyeshadow shade!

I like the palette, especially the cake liners. Are those cake liners available separately? I love the burgundy wine shade…I think I’ll look for a good dupe for that. haha.

As someone who went on a burgundy liner kick recently, I can definitely tell you – no, that color is not available separately. MAC just released a burgundy fluidline, but it sold out quickly (maybe try eBay). The best you can do is use a burgundy eyeshadow as liner, such as MAC Sketch.
