A Mid-Week Date Night Look with Chanel, MAC and NARS

June 30th, 2011 by Karen 37 Comments

When it started to look like cereal for dinner, El Hub and I decided at the last minute to go on a mid-week date last night (fish and chips, and beer… romantic, I know!). I went with this quick, sparkly look using a mix of new pieces from NARS, Chanel and MAC (and very little blending) and sprinkled it with some permanent products from Jouer, Hourglass, Buxom and Urban Decay.

Here’s a product breakdown of the look…

EYES
  • Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Fantasme ($36) on lids and crease
  • Chanel Le Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Definer in Khaki Platine ($28) on lower lash line
  • Hourglass Script Liquid Liner Pen ($32) on upper lash line
  • Urban Decay Cannonball Mascara ($20) and Buxom Amplified Lash Mascara ($22) on lashes
CHEEKS
  • Jouer Peony ($24) on apples
LIPS
  • NARS Montego Bay Pure Matte Lipstick ($25)
  • MAC Lipglass in Evolution Revolution ($14.50)

Nothing much, but it only took a couple of minutes to do. Perfect for impromptu fried foods and beer. 🙂

Quick — say you only have 2 minutes to do your makeup before dinner. What do you do?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Super pretty! And yesterday I wasn’t convinced, but today I want those earrings bad. 😀

Ya know, I really, REALLY love them. I’m thinking about picking up the matching necklace:

      Kris Nations Double Feather Necklace

BTW, did Sweet Pea see her MBB debut?

        Ooh, you need that!

Sweet Pea was psyched for her cameo! Now she thinks I owe her my backup tube of EvRev.

Love this look. I’m definitely going to have to get SOMETHING from the new Chanel collection!

My two minutes would be: under eye concealer, liner, mascara, lip & cheek tint, done!

Speaking of tints & stains, I got my Ev Rev the other day and did two really fun combos with it: I put it over Benefit’s Cha Cha Tint, gorgeous, and then, for my second look, I got out my Tarte Rise & Shine lip stain in Nectar, used the stain side on my lips, topped it with Ev Rev… stunning! Sparkly, coral-y goodness!

Looks great! With two minutes I would put on a layer of my Bare Escentuals matte foundation, curl my eyelashes and quickly line just the top lid and waterline. Add a sweep of mascara and put lipgloss on in the car and I’m good to go!

Oh, and I forgot sunscreen! I always wear sunscreen because I’m so pale! But the BE has SPF in it so it wouldn’t be an essential if I only had two minutes!

wow that is one of my favorite looks you’ve done! i was on the fence about the montego bay lipstick but i think i def wanna get it now for sure. do u hae any recommedations for a peachy pink lipstick that’s not coral or sheer? i love chanel evasion (peachy but has alot of pink on when applied) but it’s ridiculously sheer for the price.

Pretty look, Karen 🙂 I wanted to say great job on EvRev! At first I worried it may not be unique enough (just a sheer gloss?), but I bought it anyway because I’m a loyal reader. But, I’m glad to say it is gorgeous! It makes my natural lips or any color I put underneath look soooo glowy! It really is special. And it really captures your essence, as well, because you always seem to glow!

what a pretty look! I love impromtu date nights with hubby during the week – even if our daughter tags along!

Depending on my existing eye or lip look – I’ll add MAC Feline to my water line to dress things up. Otherwise, I’ll just add a dark lip pencil to my gloss or nude lipstick.

All else fails, a fresh application of NARS Gilda or Taj Mahal!

OMG, this is one of the prettiest looks I’ve ever seen on you. When men say they like women with a “natural” look, this is what they mean. They are so cute when they think that the look they like is “no makeup”. haha.

2 minutes would be moisturizer, a UD 24/7 pencil in whatever color works with my outfit, some lipstick and philosophy gloss. And MUFE HD powder on my T zone. I have naturally long lashes so I don’t use mascara very often.

    What foundie did you use?

2 mnts huh? I’d say, concealer, two way cake, eyebrow pencil, liquid eyeliner( just for the wing of the eyes) n bright lipstick or gloss.

I love the eyes! I’m lusting after those Chanel shadows real bad!
For 2 minute date makeup, I throw on black liner, mascara, blush and dot a bit of concealer where I need it. If I get all that done super fast and I have time, I like to add some a sheer or shimmery eye shadow.

Definitely concealer under my eyes, brown mascara on my eyebrows, maybe some black mascara on lashes, and a bright lipstick (or maybe a MLBB one)!

Love the look, it’s very fresh and summery! Without seeing swatches I thought Fantasme would be too white/glittery, but it looks so sheer and pretty.

I was afraid it would look too white and silvery too, but it’s actually pretty wearable. It’s almost like it’s in a colorless base with white/silver glitter.

I hope you’ll laugh at the truth of this and not be discouraged that I still have so far to go, but if I had only 2 minutes before dinner, I’d grab a q-tip, quickly wet the tip by putting it in my mouth and then use it to wipe off whatever liner had migrated down from my lower lash line. I think it’s a small step up from just walking out the door without even passing a mirror, which would have been what I’d have done a year ago. 🙂

Btw, are there scenarios where you’d actually wash everything off your face and begin from scratch? Obviously I’ve never done that, but I assume some people do – at least sometimes.

      Hey, small victories, right? 😀

The only time I’d probably wash everything off and start from scratch is if my skin was feeling really oily. You could probably get a similar sort of clean slate by using a makeup wipe to remove everything away but your eye makeup , then touching up your eye makeup, and then putting on the rest of your face. It would take longer than two minutes though… maybe five to ten, depending on how much you wanna wear.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
