Thanksgiving Spread

November 27th, 2014 by Karen 41 Comments

Your nephew did a wonderful job assisting me with Thanksgiving today. He kept close watch as I prepped the food in the kitchen, and then supervised the actual eating at the table.

Such a dedicated kitty. 🙂

The crab was a success by the way. In case you were wondering, yes — crab tastes pretty darned good dipped in gravy (who knew?).

Now I’m off to swan dive into my third (!) slice of pecan pie.

Can I get you a slice? Would you like it with, or without whipped cream (or one of each)?

Yummy!! Love those plates! Those crabs are monstrous.

Tabs looks ready to dive into the feast!

The first Thanksgiving supposedly did not have turkey but tons of seafood and venison, so you did tradition half-proud.

I stopped at one piece of pumpkin pie. No whipped cream (slight reducing regime going on).

Din-din was fresh (Diestel) roasted turkey, my special stuffing (with walnuts, dried cranberries, Granny Smith apple), mashed red potatoes (with skins left on), green beans, applesauce, cranberry sauce. No gravy. Tomorrow we add sliced carrots to the leftovers.

And it’s all better the next day! Tabs would agree!

The 49ers are in re-building mode.

      Hey Debra,

I just saw a recipe for a similar stuffing in a Williams-Sonoma Thanksgiving cookbook that I have on hand. I’ve actually never made anything in the book; I just like to look at the pretty, pretty pictures. Sounds delish!

I also keep the skins on my mashed potatoes. Too lazy to peel them!

Hope you and the hubby had a lovely day, and woo hoo, happy Friday!

Crab on Thanksgiving? This sounds like my kind of meal! As a pescetarian, I appreciate this… there wasn’t much I could eat at my family dinner aside from bread, bread, annnnnnnnd more bread. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Yes! I originally was going to skip it (really not into turkey) and just get El Hub a couple slices from the local deli, but then I saw a sign at Whole Foods for crab and had a revelation! From here on out I’m all about crabs for T-day. 🙂

Crab!!! Now that is my kind of Thanksgiving! I can almost taste them. Karen those are massive crabs. Did Tabs get a nibble? He looks like he was ready to pounce but was being patient. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hugs from the Great Up North.

      Hi May,

They are pretty big. We got Dungeness crabs — my fave! Super sweet and very tasty.

We gave Tabs a little nibble and he licked it for a long time, lol. It was hard to tell if he was into it or not.

He also got some gravy, which he loved. And he tried a couple drops of melted butter for the first time. 🙂

Happy Friday to you! What are you doing this weekend?

Yeah. I really had a nice Thanksgiving. I was over my grandmothers as it was her birthday. It was a double celebration for our family and I always had a great time with them. 🙂

Being from Baltimore crab is big time here. I wonder why no one wants to serve it at Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe we are too old school on the east coast. I love the pics of Tabs.He looks like he would be a great supervisor. I would one of each when it comes to pie, do you have sweet potato and since it Thanksgiving throw on the whipped cream.

You went with the crab! Good for you! I’m glad it turned out well. 🙂 We went with the traditional dinner and are still working through the leftovers, plus some turkey rice soup! Just think, in about a month, we’ll be doing it all again. The thought of that makes me want to run. Literally. To make some room in my fat cells. 🙂
