Goodbye, Kauai

August 21st, 2013 by Karen 11 Comments

Hiking down to Hideaways Beach on the North Shore of Kauai, a great snorkeling spot for intermediate and advanced snorkelers (because the trek down to it involves ropes and steep stairs!).

My last day here on Kauai…

I’m so, so sad to be going. In a few hours, I’ll be on a plane headed back to the Bay Area.

I can’t wait to see Tabs again, but I’m not ready to leave these warm waters or my Kauai kitties here at the hotel.

El Hub thinks I should call the hotel (the Marriott at Kalapaki Bay) every once in a while to ask the front desk how the cats are doing… I think that’s perhaps a little too crazy cat lady, myself, but I haven’t ruled it out. 🙂

Before I pack up (le sigh), here’s one last look at Kauai…

Cookie (short for Cookies ‘n’ Cream) the beach kitty works at Ke’e Beach on the North Shore.
Cookie: “I claim this man’s foot as my own!”
Cookie: full-time beach cat, part-time parking attendant.
A Hawaiian Monk Seal catching a breather at Ke’e Beach on the North Shore of Kauai.
Duuuuude! What a night… I’m SO wasted!
The mighty Dragonfruit! — most powerful of all the tropical fruits.
I sliced it open with a plastic butter knife in my hotel room (note: wasn’t easy). It tastes like a watery, less tart Kiwi. Muy delicioso.
The aftermath! Isn’t that pink super cool?

I’ll miss you, Kauai. Until we meet again…

The stairs down to one of my favorite Kauai beaches, Hideaways on the North Shore.

Beautiful photos! I want a lipstick the exact color of the dragonfruit “aftermath”. It’s so vibrant. 🙂

I was there earlier this year…my first time….your pictures make me want to go back.

My only negative about this trip was that when I came back…my skin went on overdrive and has become extremely dry. My ezcema flared up as well. This never happened when I went to Malaysia

I have really enjoyed seeing your posts about Kauai. It makes me want to go back there so bad. And the kitties – so cute! Kauai is truly paradise.

It’s been about 10 years since I’ve been there, so I’ve been making notes about some of the places you’ve visited so I can make sure to check them out again.

Hope you had a safe trip back. Hopefully Tabs didn’t go too crazy with the house parties while you were gone. 🙂

I typically do really badly in hot weather, but I want to go to Hawaii now!

Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos, Karen. I’ve lived in Oahu but have never been in any of the other islands. There’s going to be a conference I’m attending (hopefully) in 2016, and I’m making a mental note to save up enough to visit the other islands (Kauai is a big contender based on you pictures alone!).

Karen I’ll admit in the beginning I used to think you are from Hawaii 🙂
