OH, MAH GAH!

I had to do it. After the fun I had with these the other day, I couldn’t resist. Fabulous forces beyond my control made me put these into my Sephora cart, and then the free three-day shipping pushed me over the edge.

It was like when the Enterprise rolled up on the Borg. Resistance was futile.

They’re so gorgeous in the pan, but I’m reading a lot of reviews saying they’re super-powdery.

      Hi Rachel,

They’re a little powdery, but no more than a lot of other brands. I think a lot depends on technique and how you use them, like if you tap your brush off against the pan to really dilute the brush, there’s no problem with fallout.

Thank you. That’s good to know, that they can be made to work. Especially at that price.

The colors are beautiful, and the packaging is beyond exquisite.

I’m really interested in these, Exposure is gorgeous, but I’m worried about the quality.

      Hi Jax,

From my time with these, I love ’em. I think some of the issues/concerns I’ve heard about are partly due to how people are using them. I think some of it boils down to technique. For starters, diluting your brush by tapping it against something to lessen the powder load makes a difference. That’s just one thing, and it’s a small thing, but it matters. I didn’t have any problems with fallout from the olive shadows I used earlier this week.

I likely won’t spring for these (still trying to let my bank account recover from the holidays, trying to be good) but I love the colors in the Graphite palette, will have to take a look at it when I spot it in the store.

I bought the Graphite yesterday evening. Interestingly the sales manager who helped me was keen for me to come back during daylight hours to try the colours out in natural light, which I thought was a really considerate gesture whilst obviously building in more time for me to spend in her store. But as I was looking for new play things for this weekend and won’t have time to return beforehand I went ahead and got it anyway. She helped me, she did a look on me and she stressed what you, Karen, have been advising about tapping the brush. I was hesitant because the colours look so dramatic in the pan BUT please be aware that if you employ a really light touch these colours can be as subtle and sheer or as bold as you like. I’m going away soon and literally the only eye colour I am going to need for the whole trip – for daytime or partying – is this palette and a couple of pencils. But I would stress again it is all about the application, you do really need to use your best brushes and primer.

However, the concern I do have is that over time with wear there is some transfer across colours and they might not stay in place on the eyelid. I’m not sure whether this was because of all the other playing we did in the store and there was a lot of gunk on my eyes, but by the time I went to bed it was like a beautiful golden bruise. I am quite rock and roll so I liked it but not everyone might.

Hope that helps? Maybe just confuses!

These are definitely lovely and I have a feeling you’re going to be golden glitterific in Graphite! Looking forward to your FOTDs. I hope all is well and that you have a terrific weekend!

In other news: Of course you had to do it. I mean, three day free shipping, who hadn’t? We understand.

These are all sooo beautiful. I keep putting them in my Sephora basket and then taking them out, I can’t decide if I want Obscura or not. I think I last decided to wait until I could swatch in store, but you know… resistance is futile!

They look like great palettes – a shimmery, gorgeous take on neutrals. These would be good for work or a night out. Hourglass is expensive but generally speaking good quality stuff. I am not sure which one I would get – I like to see makeup in person and haven’t ordered online before.

Ooooh, I want Obscura so bad, but I don’t live near a Sephora, and it seems you can’t order online unless you’re VIB Rouge. I’m a lowly VIB. 😛

Homegirl. I keep meaning to tell you that I’ve looked high and low for that Covergirl Bronzer that you love so much but I can’t find it! Sad Panda. I was hoping I could buy it in-store for instant gratification but alas, it appears as though I will have to search the interwebz for it!

Awwww, man! Panda eyes, indeed 🙁 Here on the East Coast, I can find it at Walmart, K-Mart, and maybe the drugstore. So sorry it’s hard for you to find. Sending you lots of makeup stardust with magic powers so you can find it! ☺️

    these are perfection!
ive had infinity for about 2 months and just got exposure last week when sephora started carrying it
i dont think theyre powdery – theyre really pigmented and you barely have to put a brush in there – i use mostly flat shader brushes
they can go on as soft washes of color or really boldly
i have oily lids and i think they are best with nars pro prime – but they do stay all day without just not as bold which is just fine for the office
i dont think ill get the other 5 simply because the colors arent ones i would wear a lot not because i dont think they are worth it – cuz they are – insanely expensive yes but totally worth every penny!!

    Karen,
I was trying to order the hourglass modernist eyeshadow .
I couldn’t get it in my cart . I thought how odd. A window popped up that said you had to be a Vib member. Meaning you had to have spent $ 1000 that year on Sephora to qualify to order that eyeshadow !
    What a strange rule !
I can just go get some Chanel

Has anyone hit-pan on one of the hourglass palettes? Because the colours are all pressed together, I’m concerned that the entire palette would crumble if you hit pan on a shade. It’s putting me off buying one at the moment! Does anyone have any experience with this? x
