September Update: My Current Skin Care Routine

September 5th, 2014 by Karen 24 Comments

Unlike Tabs, who wakes up preternaturally gorgeous without any assistance whatsoever because of his superior kitty modeling genetics, the rest of us need a little help.

In my case, I need a sh*t-ton of help from skin care, LOL!

Here’s my current routine of products I’ve been using on my combination oily/dry/acne-prone mug all summer long…

In the morning…

  • Amore Pacific Treatment Enzyme Peel Botanical Exfoliator (I’m on my third bottle)
  • Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Instant Infusion
  • Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control Concentrate
  • Kate Somerville Anti Bac Acne Clearing Lotion (I swear by this stuff! Ride-or-die!)
  • Amore Pacific Future Response Dual Eye Cream for Day
  • Clarins Multi-Active Day Early Wrinkle Correction Cream
  • Diptyque Protective Moisturizing Lotion for the Face SPF 15 (I like this well enough, but I’m probably not going to restock it. I’m mostly just trying to finish this one.)

In the evening…

  • DHC Deep Cleansing Oil love
  • Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser (Another ride-or-die trooper!)
  • Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Instant Infusion
  • Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control Concentrate
  • Clarins Multi-Active Day Early Wrinkle Correction Cream (I know that this is technically not a night cream…but whatevs.)
  • Skinceuticals Resveratrol BE
  • Amore Pacific Future Response Age Defense Dual Eye Creme for Night

Also, once or twice a week, I’ll use Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask, depending on how dry my cheeks are feeling on any given day. 🙂

Lots of bare-faced action up in hurr!

I didn’t even know Diptyque was making skincare!
I love the Clarins Multi-Active range! The very first high-end products I bought when I realized grocery store skincare wasn’t doing me any justice were from that range. Wow, that was 10 years ago…

Thank you so much for this post Karen!! I’ve been dying to know what you use since I think we are the same age (35) and your skin is all glowy and youthful and all the ish I’m aiming for. I’m no joke about to spend my next check on this list! So cannot wait!

You’re welcome, Amanda! You might want to ask for samples first before making the plunge. That way you can be sure that you like it, you know?

Um, one other question- so you put this day list on after washing and before makeup? Ok more than one. How long after you apply these do you wait to put on your makeup? and what’s the infusion? I’m not just a makeup junkie I’m a skincare junkie too so I’m so curious about your routine. It’s sounds amaze-ing!!! Thanks Karen!

      Hi Amanda,

Yes, I do the day list after washing and before makeup. Usually I wait a half hour or so. In that time I’m usually doing my hair, ironing my clothes, feeding the cat, etc.

The Fresh Black Tea Infusion is like a toner. I put a couple drops into my palms and work it directly into my face. 🙂

A solid skin care right there! I have been so curious about DHC and that little heart next to it makes me more! 😛 I love the Shu Uemura Cleansing oil though and and seriously think its amazing!

Good! Pretty low-key. I took two classes on Saturday, handstands and flexibility and contortion, and am still a little sore!

Lovely routine. I have the feeling, I add more products for every year I age without leaving the ones I started out with. Being 35, this is a lot of stuff I use every day. I will try and put as skincare routine up on my blog before I change it all over due to the change in weather.

      Hi Linda,

I’ve noticed that I definitely use much more skin care than I did in when I was 18. It’s a bit more work now!

What are you using and liking at the moment?

Your hard work shows – your skin looks great! In the AM, I use Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Purifying Gel Cleanser with my beloved Clarisonic, followed by CeraVe lotion and Tarte BB tinted moisturizer (SPF 20). In the evening, CeraVe wash, CeraVe lotion and Strivectin on the wrinkly parts. I was really liking the Algenist Retinol Firming & Lifting Serum but it’s way too spendy for the results (I think). I’m still looking for that miracle skin product. 🙂

      Hi Kim,

I’m still looking for that miracle too. Have you seen this new serum from Clinique? It seems promising:

      Clinique Smart Custom-Repair Serum

I think I’m going to give it a try.

I think your face is the best testament for great skin that any of these companies could ever need. Because you look amaaaazing and obviously what you’re using/doing is 100% working for you! I’m only in my 20s (24 next week!), but I am noting the DHC Cleansing Oil and the Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser. I’ve been using MAC Cleanse-Off Oil for the past year (it’s great!), but the DHC looks like a similar value and if you recommend, I’m gonna try it! And I feel that if you have a great makeup remover/cleansing oil on hand, there’s no need to shell out for a majorly expensive follow-up cleanser, so I’m going to try the Neutrogena. Love the brand, but never tried that product before! Definitely need a gentler cleanser for my (soon-to-be) combo-dry and semi-acneic winter skin.

Happy early birthday, Rachel! 24 is a GREAT year. 🙂

So yeah, I love the MAC Cleanse-Off Oil, too, and never thought that I could find anything better, but the DHC one is fantastic. The MAC one sometimes dries out my skin (especially in the winter), and that doesn’t happen with DHC.

What other skin care are you currently using and loving?

Hmmmmm may check out the Kate Somerville’s Anti Bac Clearing Lotion. I had been using the step 3 from Proactiv which I did like but I don’t like have to rely getting it from eBay. When I need mah products I need em now now now!!! LOL! Also I’ve been curious about the Neutrogena cleanser. Thanks for sharing!

      Hi JenJ,

I used to used that too back in the day, but quit because it was so hard to find. You’ll LOVE the Kate Somerville Anti Bac. It layers well underneath makeup, doesn’t dry my skin out and absorbs quickly. 🙂

    Hello Karen,
Love reading your posts…and want to know how do you like Clarins Double Serum? I have been a long-time user of Estee Lauder ANR Serum and wonder how this Double Serum compares. I just began using Hey Honey Good Morning Serum and so far, it’s pretty good for day use.
