Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer: A Fabulously Affordable Option to One of My Favorite High-End Lippies of All Time

Several lipsticks from the new Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer line ($18 each)

The only thing that could make these new Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primers better is if they actually came with Pop Tarts.

That, and if they were free and summoned fluffy kittens and unicorns. 🙂

By the way, if we’re handing out Pop Tarts here, I’ll take a strawberry with frosting, please. The others are a complete and total sham!

But I digress…

These new $18 lippies resemble one of my favorite high-end (much more expensive) lipsticks of all time. Keep reading to find out which one!

The Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primers: Deets you need to know/overview

  • These are a brand new line of $18 full-coverage, long-wearing, moderately moisturizing lipsticks with a built-in smoothing primer.
  • There are 16 unflavored, unscented shades divided into four color families — nudes, tawnies/corals, pinks, violets.
  • They have an interesting finish that I’d characterize as about two-thirds cream, one-third matte. Still a little shiny, but not completely matte. It reminds me of the NARS Satin Lip Pencils.
  • Texture-wise, they feel creamy and slightly thick on my lips but aren’t heavy.
  • I get five or six hours of wear time from the more intense shades, and four or five hours from the less intense ones.
  • Of the six I’ve tried, the vibrant, colorful shades, particularly hot pink Punch Pop, reddish coral Poppy Pop and warm red Cherry Pop impress me the most. One layer of each gives me full, even coverage that stays out of my horizontal lip lines (yay!).
  • I’m not crazy about pastel pinkish purple Fab Pop, though. It settles into my lip lines, looks patchy, and I can’t get it to stay where it belongs on my lips.
  • For me, the stars of this show are the brights! 🙂 They totally remind me of Guerlain’s $51 Rouge G line. They look the same and feel the same to me, but they don’t taste or smell the same, so FYI, if you absolutely must have that rosy Guerlain flavor and scent, you won’t find that here.

I still love the Rouge Gs to bits and probably always will, but these Clinique Pop Lips are a fabulously affordable $18 option (versus $51!).

Pop over to your neighborhood Clinique counter or Sephora store to check ’em out (or find them online).

I’ve wanted to try these since I first laid eyes on these (on the Internet of course :P). These have finally launched in Japan a couple of days ago. I’m hitting the Clinique counter this weekend!

There’s a shade called Plum Pop that seems like a great plum tinged pink for my medium complexion. And Punch Pop of course (though I have too many hot pinks already!).

I am so glad you like them. I have read only great things about these lipsticks and I saw these at Ulta last weekend and I definitely want one. I couldn’t decide between Wow Pop (which is a hot pink) and Melon Pop (a soft peach). But I am definitely going back to get one!

My Ulta just brought in a giant Clinique counter and it’s amazing!

LOL I thought I was the only one who only liked the strawberry pop tarts with icing. The rest are an easy skip! But these? Not so easy. The colors look really pretty and the formula sounds really interesting too. A built in smoothing primer? Sounds like something I need lol

I’ve been waiting for these to drop near me but my local counter doesn’t have them yet! They seem to be a few months behind on all the releases though except the seasonal stuff.

Hi Karen. I have Love, Beige, Fab, and Bare. Bare and Love are my favorites but Sweet and Poppy and maybe Cherry are on my list. Can’t beat the price for the quality. I may just have to make a special trip to swatch them 🙂

I seriously need to find a counter and check these out, especially if they’re unscented. I like the Rouge G line, except for the scent. Just don’t like heavy scent in my makeup. The colors you swatched are pretty. The only one I wouldn’t wear is Fab.

Great shades! I was wondering about the primer component. It’s for smoothing, not long-wear like I’d originally thought. They certainly do look smooth and creamy.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
