Tempting Tuesday Cat Treats, and Swatches of Yves Saint Laurent and Laura Mercier Summer 2012

May 22nd, 2012 by Karen 56 Comments

feline greenies

No, I’m not eating cat treats. 🙂 I may be a crazy cat lady, but I’m not quite there yet.

Tabs ran out of his favorite treats last week, Turkey Temptations, so I thought we’d try something new.

He’s very picky when it come to his treats (I’m sure you’re overwhelmed with surprise, haha), but he really likes these Feline Greenies Dental Treats I found at Pet Food Express.

Feline Greenies Dental Treats

He even follows me around the house when I walk around with the bag…

annies cocoa vanilla

That’s how I am about these Gluten Free Cocoa & Vanilla Bunny Cookies from Annie’s.

When Annie says, “You can’t eat just two!” she is NOT kidding around. They’ve got that addictive crunch, the taste of vanilla and cocoa, and a single serving is just 120 calories, which is about 24 of the tiny cookies.

I don’t really go out of my way to eat gluten free, but the lack of gluten sure isn’t hurting these. YUM!

Tasty or not, however, they can’t satisfy my appetite for makeup…

Neither can the 15-piece YSL Summer 2012 collection, but it’s giving it the old college try!

ysl summer 2012

Now that Majorelle Blue mascara and I are like *this*, I’m tempted to pick up the purple version, Signature Violet.

I swung by the YSL counter over at Nordie’s this afternoon to take a closer look and get some swatches…

yves saint laurent summer 2012 swatches 4
The Terre Saharienne Poudre de Soleil Bronzing Powder SPF 12 in #1 Sun-Kissed Touch and #2 Healthy Glow ($50 each); Golden Gloss in #3 Golden Shell, #4 Golden Pebble, #5 Golden Pearl and #6 Golden Sand ($30 each); Dessin du Regard Waterproof Eye Pencils in #7 Luminescent Gold and #8 Azure Blue ($28 each); Volume Effet Faux Cils Waterproof Mascara in #9 Charcoal Black, #10 Burnt Brown, #11 Signature Violet and #12 Majorelle Blue ($30 each)

Pure Chromatics Wet & Dry Eyeshadow Palette in Stone, $52

Oh, the willpower is weak! I don’t think I’ll be able to resist Signature Violet much longer…especially since this coming Saturday, May 26, Nordstrom stores are offering a pretty sweet deal.

It’s called Mascara Madness, where for every two tubes of mascara you buy, you get a third tube of equal or lesser value free.

Now all I need is a good reason to go for it like, “Hmm… I could always use another tube of Faux Cils,” or “My birthday’s coming up.”

LOL! Do you ever use your birthday as an excuse to splurge on makeup? Because now that I think about it, one of the three Pure Chromatics Wet & Dry Eyeshadow Palettes ($52) might have to say hello to my makeup bag as well.

From the glitter and pigment in the swatches, I really liked Shell and Sand (so sparkly!), but I’d probably end up wearing the neutrals in Stone more often… That quad is pretty sheer, and for $52, I’d like a little more pigment, ya know?

And then there’s the Dessin du Regard Waterproof Eye Pencils ($28). Both Luminescent Gold and Azure Blue feel so smooth and look so pigmented that they’re almost like liquids — similar to the Urban Decay 24/7s, but even softer, smoother and more intense.

I like the non-waterproof formula; I’m curious about the waterproof one now.

It took all of my willpower to step away from the YSL counter empty handed, but I did it. I made it all the way to the Laura Mercier counter a few feet away. 🙂

Oh, do you remember when we sneaked a peek at LM’s summer Belle Nouveau collection a few weeks back? Well, the collection is available on counters now.

Laura Mercier Belle Nouveau

This one also has a blue mascara, the aptly named Long Lash Mascara in Blue ($24), but I think it’s much subtler than YSL’s Majorelle Blue and really only visible when you’re up in someone’s grill.

I usually like subtle, but here I feel, if I’m gonna wear blue mascara, I might as well go all the way, right?

Before you go, here are some swatches of the entire collection…

laura mercier belle nouveau caviar stick eye color swatches
Caviar Stick Eye Colors in Turquoise, Sapphire and Steel, $24 each; Long Lash Mascara in Black and Blue, $24 each; there’s also Nail Lacquer in Lavender Cloud; see swatches here

Has anything beauty-wise been tempting you lately? What’s the next thing on your lemming list?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oh my, those Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks are really calling to me–gorgeous swatches!! I’ve been meaning to get either the YSL or Laura Mercier blue mascara ever since I saw photos from the Stella McCartney Fall 2012 show–but I keep getting sidetracked with other purchases 😛

Oh and damn it Karen–I literally just had to send my bf out to the store for Annie’s cocoa bunnies because your pics made me crave them so bad!! Lol

      Hi Agata,

Ya know, I was worried at first about blue mascara, but it’s actually SUPER COOL. It’s a fast way to get some color on your eyes without having to deal with shadow and whatnot (love that). Plus the YSL one has that fantastic curl hold AND you could wear it with all your gold eyeshadows. 🙂

I was in Sephora the other day and I guess alot of stuff has launched since I was last there.. The new Benefit glosses to match the shades of the boxed powders, the Korres cheek cream things…! The Dallas gloss looked really nice, even though it’s a pretty basic shade I don’t think I own anything like it.. I’m also tempted by the Dior Aurora eyeshadow palette! The oranges, golds, and browns look soo pretty 🙂

I am so tempted by those Golden Glosses! The only thing holding me back is that I heard they are gritty. I love the shades in Stone as well but don’t care for sheer shadows at all. I have Shell and love it. I wish I could order Laura Mercier online to Canada but alas it is Canada restricted. You lucky gals with counter access!!

I’ve heard different things about the texture. Some folks say that it’s pretty smooth, too. I guess I’ll have to try for myself one of these days (don’t twist my arm, haha!). Have you tried wearing the colors in Shell wet? How’s that hot pink? I love the idea of it but it kinda scares me at the same time.

I do not need Golden Gloss in Golden Pebble. I had to repeat that line several times. Luckily I moved on when my mind was confused by LM’s Mauve Pastel. How are they getting mauve out of that color? I’m going to contemplate that instead of the YSL lip gloss. 🙂

oei difficult question in the store I had trouble choosing between them I went home with golden shell first, could not stop thinking about golden pearl so went back the following day to get it love it too. If you are in to pinks I would go for the golden pearl its gorgeous on its own and I topped it on one of my ysl vernes a leveres and could not stop looking in the mirror wow!. Love the sparkles from both makes my lips look so glamouris! Golden shell is more neutral I guess. Let us know if you end up getting one! Have a great weekend.

I used to feed my cat, Otto, Feline Greenies. He was hooked on them like crack! However, my pet store, which specializes in raw and organic pet food, recommended that he try Smart ‘n’ Tasty dental treats in lieu of Feline Greenies as the Greenies have a lot of bad stuff for kitties like grain. Otto is just as hooked on Smart ‘n’ Tasty treats and they’re better for him!

My Zeal loves Greenies too, except for the Beef flavor. However, you’d think with a name like Greenies, chlorophyll wouldn’t be the last ingredient listed on the back.

I’ll have to try the Smart’n’ Tasty treats that CC mentions, because since Friskies stopped making their Dental Diet dry food, Zeal’s teeth haven’t been as clean as they used to be. I’ve been feeding her that since she was 1, up until she was about 12, & every vet we saw was amazed by how great her teeth looked. They stopped making the $8 6lb bag, so they could change the formula slightly and charge about $26 for the same size bag. I no longer buy any Friskies products.

Zena LOVES Greenies, Karen. In fact, we have to make up holidays to justify the price of her Greenies toothbrushes. She will do three roll overs in a row do get one. It’s hilarious. I don’t know what it is about Greenies, but dogs love em!

My high school years were all about drug store makeup. I hadn’t learned the value that higher value makeup would be better for my skin! Lots of CoverGirl and my brow pencil of choice was Wet n’ Wild’s Mink (a foot long pencil was $00.99! Lasted forever!) My high school years were also plagued by Trichotillomania which I thought I had control over, but I really didn’t, so I really needed that foot long pencil. I didn’t actually think about looking into managing and solving my Trich until two years ago!

They come by size (and some are Lite and some are Regular.) We get the Medium size. Once you get the Greenies….you’re screwed. I swear they are the most addictive treat for pets!

I have really bad Trich actually. I’ve had it since I was nine. It was cyclical (I would have bouts and then for some reason, I’d be fine) really until I hit high school. My main trigger is really whenever I’m stressed and there’s a tweezers in the house, so there is permanently no tweezers in the house. My dad keeps his tweezers at work because he one time bought a pair for an ingrown, brought them home, and I found them and ripped out whole bunches of my eyebrows after being “clean” for about a year for that area. My mom had to give him The Talk. I started Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for my anxiety and Trich about two months ago which has helped and I’ve taken up crochet to try and keep my fingers busy. I’ve over the years sort of grown out of the skin picking version, but it only rears its ugly head when I get pimples, bug bites, blisters…that sort of thing. I’ve learned little tricks to remind me not to pick.

I also try to eliminate as many triggers and keep my stress down, but sometimes I still end up pulling out some eyebrow hairs or eyelashes (which are the two areas I’ve pulled from the longest.) I feel a little defeated when this happens, but I have to remember this is one of the hardest disorders to control. It’s an impulse disorder, so you’re trying to control your impulses and that doesn’t just happen in weeks or months. Like, today, I found a blonde hair among all of my brown eyebrows and I didn’t realize I had been engaging in my Trich until I had ripped out the blonde hair. This had been after 4 months of basically not pulling (the whole Dad bringing home the tweezers was 4 months ago.) I feel a bit like crying because you work so hard and something so small can set you back!

Beautiful makeup, I might have to take a look at the new summer stuff (loving the eyeshadows and liners). Yes, sometimes I make up an occasion for buying makeup, like “I don’t have these colors”, or “I need new, good mascara for the summer.” I don’t get to Sephora much mainly because it’s a good hike from where I live, but when I do go I get some good stuff. I’m really happy with this Shopping Bag palette I got from there – it will be a great travel kit and I am already loving the lip glosses. It only costs $24 for all the stuff that comes in it, too. It’s Sephora brand, and I’ve gotten some good makeup from the Sephora brand before. But yeah, sometimes I definitely make up excuses to go makeup shopping.

I am cracking up about the Greenies! My cat loves them SOOO much too. We call them “cookies”, and she totally knows what that word means. If you ask her if she wants a cookie, she will run over to the fridge (we keep them on top of the fridge). We used to reward her for scratching on her scratcher (and not the furniture!) with a cookie and now she goes over to it and paws at it a little bit, then looks at me/my husband, any time she wants a cookie 🙂 They are very clever!
