Take Out Your Dancing Shoes for the Tarte The Starlet Limited-Edition Makeup Vanity

November 3rd, 2011 by Karen 40 Comments

tarte the starlet

My neighbors probably don’t need another reason to think I’ve completely lost my mind, but that didn’t stop me from giving them another one today.

Since they already know that I take my cat out for walks on a leash, snap pictures of myself in the front yard, drive to the grocery store wearing false eyelashes, and periodically leap like this in the street, I figured heck — I have nothing else to lose. Might as well take pics of myself dancing in front of the windows while I blast Footloose and try on Tarte’s new The Starlet Limited-Edition Makeup Vanity ($52). 🙂

If I only had an old VW Bug and an empty barn, LOL! But more on the movie in a few…

As for The Starlet, a holiday kit containing makeup for eyes, lashes and cheeks, she really should be handled with care. Within my first minute with it, I’d already scratched the mirrored top.

The eyeshadows and blushes range in pigment from medium to full, which I like, but the powders are wild at heart! — as in incredibly powdery, and I find them difficult to control. I found myself having to press the products pretty hard to get them to adhere to my skin for any length of time.

As beautiful as it is, the kit has some strong selling points, like a wonderful array of wearable shades, but because of the powders, it would probably be best for beauties with a great deal of patience.

PRICE: $52
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Sephora stores and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B

So, Footloose! 🙂

Maybe it’s because I went into the theater with seriously low expectations, but I thought the new remake was great! It must’ve been made by people who really loved the original, because it’s almost like a tribute film. It stays true to the spirit of the first flick with the same basic story, just freshened up with new faces and a few new twists. And the actors really work it OUT! For me, the dude who played Willard totally steals the show.

I left the theater singing… Seriously, what a great show. Next time you’re in the mood for a fun, feel-good flick that doesn’t require a lot of brain power, Footloose!

Now I have a strong urge to go country line dancing. I’ve never done it before, but it sure looked like a lot of fun in the movie.

You wanna go?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

You could probably get around the powder issue by wetting your brush first with something like MAC Fix+. 🙂

You know, some days I just love a fun feel good movie that doesn’t require a lot of brain power! Might wait til this comes out so i can rent it though. That way I can dance around like an idiot. Plus “la girlfriend” gave me “you really want me to do that? Really?” eyes when I saw the preview and went “oooh ooh can we see that!!?” lol. It sounds like a good rainy day alone, or I’m bored while cleaning movie!
Shame about the shadows in the set. The presentation is so nice, it would sit so citron on my makeup table!

I really like that pretty blue eye shadow.

Haha, me too! The music was such a good balance between the old stuff and new.

What made you decide to watch it? Originally I wasn’t going to but I couldn’t deal with anything too heavy.

That’s my fave color with the dark green a close second. 🙂

Color-wise, this is right up my alley, but it’s too bad about the powder issues. I’m way too impatient to be fooling with that. 🙂

That’s great to hear about Footloose! I really couldn’t get myself interested in seeing it, but it’s getting really good reviews and a bunch of people I know who’ve seen it have liked it too. I’ll be adding it to my netflix queue in 6 months. 🙂

And, speaking of dancing, tonight is our big party night. Bedazzled shirts will be rocking out!

first of all i just love ur posts, its pretty much book marked on my browser and apart from my work email this is the first page i check every morning. thanks so much for posting everyday and making me smile everyday 🙂

2nd of all….tarte has been a lil disapointing with kits lately. i didnt think i needed this whole vanity so i settled for the rising star palette (i hope u review this soon) and i got the same result with the blush and bronzer – POWDERY! i cud barely lift any with my brushes which are usually good with high end or drug store products. this stuff is just so powdery and the shadows were not very pigmented either. i am going to give it a second try tonight with primer, but really that will only fix the E/S problem, the blush/bronzers are ridiculously powdery and i dont want to wet my brush and risk looking streaky.

The packaging is gorgeous, but I’m still working my way through the LORAC Box Office Sensation box from last year. I’m also impatient enough to pass on the powdery texture 🙂

I was really, really interested in getting this but powdery will not work with impatient lil me. I wanted to try the eyeshadow and those amazing amazonian clay blushes for a while now and the value on this palette can’t be beat! I’ll probably need to see this for myself before any final decisions are made. Thanks for the review, Karen! 🙂

This looks more conservative and sophisticated than previous Tarte Holiday super-duper palettes…but also more boring with less product options and colors. If I was a make up newbie this would be great and the price is more than reasonable. But now for the jaded make up junkie that I am/was this is just meh.
