Stila, Too Faced and TheBalm: A Wednesday Sephora Swatch-O-Rama

August 4th, 2010 by Karen 75 Comments

stila too faced the balm sephora swatch o rama

I got a nice surprise when I stopped by Sephora after work today. Sometimes the store near my house takes a while to put new stuff out on their shelves (they also had holiday items out until MARCH), so I couldn’t believe my eyes when I spotted fall makeup from Stila, Too Faced and TheBalm (YES!).

Were they just a mirage? I wondered. I pulled out my camera to capture the photographic evidence. 🙂

TheBalm TimeBalm Liquid Concealer ($20)

I didn’t intend to leave with anything when I entered the store, but resistance was futile (isn’t it always?). I ended up exchanging Touche Eclat for the Stila Backstage Palette and a tube of TimeBalm Liquid Concealer in Honey… Let’s hope at least one of ’em moves makeup mountains (I’ll let you know).

Onward to Thursday! Hang in there. From here to the weekend, as Tabs would say, “it’s all gravy.” 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Thanks for all the swatches! I was very intrigued by the Stila Custom Color blush….it looks super bright in the pan, but on your skin it looks like the Lilium color that I already have. But the Backstage palette looks beautiful!

Yay! Swatch party! The Stila long wear lip color looks soooo awesome. Man, I want all the new Stila makeup. How as the blush? Did it change color on you like mood lipstick? I like bright pink blush though, so I’ll probably try it. Can’t wait to hear what you think of your new items! 🙂

ohh man those Stila liquid lipcolors look gorgeous, especially the red one. I hope the liquid Time Balm is as amazing as the original. I’m a bit miffed that my skin is too tan to use my Time Balm right now. Gotta hurry up and pale down because I am not going to buy 2 shades of that. no no no

Oooo I have the Stila eye palette and the long wear lip color in Mauve. I also have the Two Faced palette. Love, love the eye palettes, jury is still out on the lippie. It has weird mask like feeling to it, but it could be my fault. The color is so matte that I threw some gloss over it which I think hurt the texture a bit.

I was wondering how they’d feel on the lips. Do you do a thin or thick layer?

      • Lisa S. says

        August 5th, 2010 at 11:31 am

Well I didn’t think I put on that thick of a layer, but I’m gonna try again with a bit more of a careful application. I’m usually just a slap it on and go girl when it comes to lip color.
I’m also gonna see if I like it a bit more just going without the gloss, which I really just dabbed onto the center of my lower lip anyway.

Eek! So I ended up going back and getting a few tubes. I tried a very thin layer and it seems okay. I just hope it doesn’t dry out my lips, because the finish very matte!

I just picked up the Stila backstage palette today too. Really pretty colors!

What did you think of the Custom Color Blush? I swatched it today and thought it was chalky looking. It’s supposed to interact with your skin pH for “custom blush” but I doubt such minor differences in everyones’ skin pH would change the color so drastically from person to person!

I love the look of the Stila lipgloss in the tube, but they look hella dry on your arm! Anyone out there done an actual test-drive on those? I’m all about super-pigmented lippies, but only if they feel good. Completely unrelated…after your review of the Wet N Wild Mega Last, I felt the need to hit Walgreens and purchase one. I got 902C “Bare It All” and darned if it’s not a great little buy! It looks fairly dark in the tube but is actually a great peachy nude shade. On the flip side, I also grabbed 900B “Pink Suga” and it was terrifying, lol…total dead person concealer lips on me. At 2.99 a pop, that’s OK, though.

Yeah, I think I’m going to try a different Sephora on the weekend. See what goodies they have. I really don’t need anything but I’m still trying to track down the Naked Palette.

I checked out the Custom Colour blush while I was there last and I wasn’t too impressed, thought it would have been the perfect matte pink. It was just a little underwhelming on me, but I’m sure it would look lovely on others.

The palettes look good, I’ve swatched the Too Faced one last time as well (had my own swatch-fest) and it was very nice, but your swatches makes me want the Stila one.

The naked palette is definitely worth the hype! I heard Ulta has it in stores and online too! The Too Faced naked palette is defintely cooler and since I have a darker complexion I feel like it would look chalky on me =[ Plus it’s only $9 more for UD and like 3X the shadows!
