Today’s minor victory? It has been two full weeks since my second shot, so I’m officially fully vaccinated! To celebrate, I ironed my shirt.
HA HA HA! No, seriously, one cannot embark upon “the after” as a wrinkly mess. I also put on some makeup, since wearing face paint with a crisp celebratory white shirt seemed like the right thing to do. ?
I did a 15-minute quickie look with taupe lids and plum cheeks using mostly new-to-me makeup from Laura Mercier, Giorgio Armani, Chanel and Clinique, because I’ve been trying to expand my horizons a little with some new products.
First impressions…
Giorgio Armani Lip Power in Confident: This creamy plum lipstick’s cup runneth over with pigment. It’s creamy, lightweight and doesn’t have an obnoxious flavor or scent. I especially like using it as a lip stain.
Chanel Ombre Premier Lacque in Desert Wind: This shimmery liquid shadow dries quickly, so you have to blend with speed and purpose. No time to dilly-dally! It’s also long lasting and quite shimmery.
Clinique Pretty Easy Liner in Brown: I’ve used the black version of this liquid liner for years, and the brown is just as easy to apply. It also lasts all day long.
Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in 4W: I’m only wearing this dual-ended brightening and camouflaging concealer in this look. No foundation at all. It’s lightweight but certainly covers everything. It also looks and feels natural, but dagnabbit if it doesn’t just slide right off my face, even when I set it with powder.
Do you ever wear taupe lids with plum cheeks and lips? It’s a combo I like to wear all year long, but even more so now because the plum cheeks and plum lip stain feel very springy to me.

Culinary adventures
Speaking of trying new things, last weekend I gave this vegan coconut rice and chickpea dish a go (got the recipe from Yeung Man Cooking).
Basically, it was just a’ight… I liked it enough to finish, but my eyes didn’t roll to the back of my head or anything.
I’m on a kick to find some great new recipes, so if you have one (or more!) you’ve made recently and love, send ’em my way! Thanks in advance.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I love the taupe-y goodness of this look! Taupe and plum, two of my favorite makeup colors!
Two questions. Is the Giorgio Armani in Lip Power new? I can’t find it anywhere on-line. You said it has no scent or taste, so that has me intrigued. I used to love Armani lipsticks way back in the day, but then things got reformulated and lots of fragrance got added into the mix.
And did you apply the Chanel Stylo Ombre Et Contour over the Chanel Ombre Premier Lacque or vice versa?
Karen says
Yes, I think Lip Power is new. I’m testing it for a magazine’s upcoming beauty awards issue, and while it looks like it’s not in the US yet, it seems to be available now in Canada. I just put another layer to double check, and still no flavor or scent whatsoever!
For the eyes, I loaded a synthetic tapered blending brush (shaped similarly to the MAC 217) with the cream shadow first by running it across the tip of the crayon. Then, I swept a touch of the liquid shadow across my lids, and blended out the edges with the pre-loaded blending brush. It all came together very quickly.

Thanks for the shadow technique how-to. I’m an absolute failure when it comes to blending my shadows.
So cool that you’re testing the Lip Power for a magazine. Woot! Woot! Way to go! I’ll be interested in trying that lipstick once it’s released in the US. Armani 400 is one of my favorite reds because of the blue base.

I’ve gotten to test quite a few categories which as been pretty cool. My favorites to test were the foundations and the concealers (even though I’m wearing very little of either these days). The Clinique Even Better Concealer is SUCH a gem, and so is Revlon Light Cover. I also got to try the Pantene Miracle Rescue Conditioning Treatment which is just lovely!

Congrats on being fully vaccinated! For me, Friday is 2 weeks after my second COVID shot. Can’t wait! My friend Brittany is going to come over for board games. One of my cousins is also moving to Pennsylvania in June so we’re planning a small get-together.
Karen says
Thank you! El Hub is going in for his second shot tomorrow, so in two weeks, we’ll officially be in better shape than we were at this time last year, OMG!
Isn’t it amazing how small things like having a friend over for board games feels like such a big deal? I was telling a friend a few days ago that I will no longer ever take a haircut for granted.

It really gives you some perspective!

Happy fully vaccinated day! A great reason to celebrate.
