Smashbox Heartbreaker: Breaking Hearts at a Makeup Counter Near You

January 6th, 2010 by Karen 47 Comments

Smashbox Heartbreaker Collection

We’re in a booty-freezing cold snap right now, ladies! If you’re hunkered down in front of your computer screen wearing mittens, five layers of fleece and your puffy “Jenny from the block” jacket, then you’re ready to feel the heat of Smashbox’s new Heartbreaker collection for spring.

It might even be hotter than Paul Walker’s abs. 🙂

dear-paul-walker

The first time I spotted the limited edition, 10-piece collection’s shiny white packaging — check out the lil’ kiss, aww! — I felt my temperature rise!

Smashbox-Heartbreaker-Collection-packaging

All the artists were buzzing about it at Sephora today, about the packaging, bright colors and girly vibe. With its corals, hot pinks, teals, purples and easy-to-wear neutrals (for balance), I think it just feels right.

Oh, and if you’re a fan of MAC’s discontinued LipGelee in Lu-Be-Lu, then you’re in luck. Smashbox’s Berry Hot Lip Shine sure looks like a dupe to me.

I didn’t have time to play with the collection for long, but I managed to sneak a few pics…

…and some swatches, yay! See anything you like?

I told myself ahead of time that I’d only gonna get one thing from Sephora today, so I passed on Heartbreaker for now, but I did pick up a tube of the new Dior Extase Mascara. Can’t wait to give it a try!

Outdoor adventures

tabs-harness-1

Today Tabs took me outside for a little walk around the neighborhood.

He’s really into geology and landscape architecture (not just modeling), and I’m fascinated by his extensive knowledge of California’s native plants. 🙂

Whew! I’m kinda bushed from our walk. I may just eat some pasta and watch Buffy reruns. What are you up to tonight?

I’ve heard lots of good things about the Dior Extase, so I can’t wait to see your comparison nekkid lash / with mascara comparison photos. 🙂

Aww look at Tabs! He’s so happy to finally go outside! I wish my cat wasn’t so afraid of the great outdoors. She’s such a scaredy kitty. BTW, is Tabs getting handsomer? I think so.

I like your swatches but the collection didn’t win me over when I saw it at sephora. Me and smashbox just don’t click.

Tabs is so cute in his leash. I thought about trying to walk my cats but they’ve never know the outside world and not kittens anymore so it seems too late to introduce them.

Omigosh, you got him to walk on the leash! That is so hilarious! He looks so cute. Didja get any funny looks while you were out with him?

I can’t wait to hear what you think about Dior Extase. I want to try it, but I have to finish my Diorshow Iconic first. And you know, Smashbox is another line I haven’t got around to trying yet. There are always so many other pretties calling my name… The Baked Starlight looks pretty. But alas, I will probably have to pass in the end, in favor of MAC and Urban Decay (with the occasional Stila or Benefit thrown in.)

LOL, no, we were alone for most of our walk. Thank goodness… there’s usually dogs and kids running about. I usually have to scour the neighborhood first to make sure it’s tabby-friendly. 🙂

    OMG Tabs is soooo cute!
my sister has a cat, and when they go for a walk in the countryside, he follows my sister as if he was a dog! he got accustomed to doing so since he was little. He just loves going around on his own. He just “explores” the nature 🙂

    btw, how old is Tabs?

oh Smashbox never really grabbed my attention (perhaps the packaging?) but this collection seems lovely 🙂

Tabs adopted us as an adult stray, so we’re not quite sure. The vet thinks he’s about four, so El Hub and I refer to him as our “college student”, LOL!

I’ve been totally underwhelmed by Smashbox products in the past: the cream eyeliner smudged like crazy and didn’t last, the lipgloss is decent but not terribly pigmented, the primer broke me out… but I when I saw this Heartbreaker collection at Ulta, my heart skipped a beat! (ok, ok sorry for the bad pun). But this collection might get me back into Smashbox again. I’ll have to go back and take a closer look.

Brava to you Karen. You must be a cat whisperer. My cat straight disappears when she sees the leash/harness. Tried three times before I realized it was futile.

Back on topic, that Heartbreaker Kiss N Tell palette confuses me. I can’t imagine how it would look on, tho I suspect it would have the potential to look horrific if not blended well. Hot Date seems much more approachable.

Don’t know about the display case/packaging for this set. Seems a little “I drew all over my trapper keeper” to me. Like you could swap out blondy (but, sadly not Blondie) in the photos, put in Hannah Montana and it’d look appropriate.

Or maybe I’m just that old. Carry on.

I stopped by the Vacaville CCO yesterday, and I happened to see that they have that MAC Lip Gelee (Lu-Be-Lu, I think). I remember thinking that it was an odd name 🙂

On this Smashbox stuff, I think I can pass.

I have found a new love, and it IS your fault, Karen 🙂 The Kalahari NARS duo I won here is INCREDIBLE! I am SO in love with it 🙂

I think that it might hold me over until the UD Alice palette comes out.

I haven’t really been interested in Smashbox since their little Tokidoki feature… So is it just me or does the Heartbreaker Eyeshadow Palettes look a lot like the CoverGirl eye brightening palette ma’bobbers? But of course Smashbox looks less chalky & sparkly! If I had the money to through around, I’d still pass on this. It just doesn’t appeal to me. Wait, did I just say that?!

Heartbreaker with rainbow colors? Paul Walker? Hey, it’s 2000 again! We luckily survived Y2K and I hate everything because I’m in 8th grade! I’m growing an inch by the second and Limp Bizkit is still cool!

Seriously, I was 5’1″ or 5’2″ at the beginning of 8th grade and 5’9″ at the beginning of 9th — it was intense (5’11” now). I was really awkward looking: in addition to the extreme growing, I was terrifyingly skinny despite constant eating, and my nose grew before the rest of my face did. Making things worse, I was a GIANT nerd. Okay, I still am one (lol), but at least now, nerdiness tends to lead to employment rather than insults. Oh, middle school. I’m pretty sure nearly everyone hated it.

On a different note, those photos of Tabs are utterly adorable. He makes such a cute explorer! He looks very happy. 😀

The BF and I spent last night perusing Food Network Humor’s website and having some great laughs. We also spent some time watching bad tv, which was fine since we didn’t know if I’d have to work today and have to go to sleep soon.

Every product image from this collection from the company just never grabbed me. But your two palette images definitely changed my mind! I LOVE them. The colors, the palette itself… ugh, do want!

He’s a very patient boy and lets me put the harness on him without any fight. For a while he just plopped down when he had it on, but eventually he figured out that he could walk with it and then was all into it! 🙂

I think I’ll survive without the Smashbox collection. I own some of their stuff but it’s definitely not my “go-to” brand. I do use Brow Tech and recently got the Quick Eyes collection from Ulta. I love the Quick Eyes a lot AND it was only $12.99!!

I have not worn any Smashbox products in ages. However, while looking at QVC one evening last month, I was compelled to purchase a set that included the melon and roller gloss. The shadows look nice but I resisted the urge. I can’t see paying for something that would probably go unused and wind up under the pile of my growing MAC collection:D

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick.
