The Shupette by Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura Holiday Collection: First Look and Giveaway!

October 20th, 2014 by Karen 164 Comments

Shu Uemura Shupette

There’s no doubt about it. Choupette Lagerfeld (as in Karl Lagerfeld’s fashionable feline) has the whole cute kitty thing down. Even Tabs, as much as he would like to, can’t deny it. Those bright blue eyes, that plush, snowy white coat, and those killer ear tufts…

THOSE EAR TUFTS, THO.

Every time I see a Choupette pic, I want to reach into my computer screen and eat that delicious belly meat! Or, en lieu of that, I want to accessorize her.

(I’m thinking a diamond tiara or bejeweled bib necklace…but please don’t tell my boss!)

Now, if my cat lady barometer is correct, which it often is when it comes to pressing matters involving makeup and felines, then tails will be a-twitching when the new Shupette by Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura holiday collection sashays onto Shu Uemura counters this month (however, it’s available online right meow!).

To receive an exclusive Shupette by Karl Lagerfeld Tote bag and free shipping on any purchase of $25 or more on shuuemura-usa.com, use the promo code SHUBLOG.

How freakin’ cute is this collection!? When I see Choupette’s sweet face on the packaging, I’m compelled to squeal, “SHU-PETTE!” much to my kitty overlord’s chagrin.

The collection purrs with pieces for eyes, cheeks, face, lips and nails, as well as a smattering of other Choupette-themed beauty accessories, like flirty false lashes, a lash curler, a brush set and a luxe makeup trunk (not shown in these pics).

It’s catnip for cat ladies!

To my cat-loving eye, the star of the collection is the Shupette Has-It-All Eye & Lip Palette, with its mix of cool-toned blue, gray, pink and berry on the left, and its warm gold, bronze, pink, orange and coral on the right. I feel like there’s something for everyone in this palette, and to top it off, you also get a fuzzy white makeup bag.

I’m actually wearing the Has-It-All Palette in the pics below. 🙂 For a shimmering, smokey blue cat eye, I blended the blue, gray and black shades on my lids, then lined my lash lines with Eye-Need-Shu Liner in Midnight Black (a deep black with blue pearl), before adding a dash of glitter from the My Precious Glitter Set in the inner corners.

To finish the look, I dabbed the Silk Cushion Cheek Palette in Orange on my cheeks and brushed the Has-It-All Palette’s bright pink lipstick on my lips.

A look behind the scenes…

Oh, hai, Karl! A behind-the-scenes video of the Shupette collection

      Hi Agata,

It’s cat lady heaven. 🙂 Do you have the famous Shu Uemura curler? It’s a cult classic.

Happy Monday to you! Hope that you’re feeling OK today.

I don’t but I am actually in the market for a new eyelash curler.

I am feeling better today, caught up on some sleep, it’s my day off, sipping a cup of coffee 🙂 The only bad thing is that my hubby is gone travelling all week so I am home by myself and I am sure I will be sick of being alone by the end of Day1.

The Shu Uemura one is the best. I have three of them (EEK). Backups upon backups, I guess.

Enjoy your day off and get better soon! I’m drinking my morning coffee now, too — a Vanilla Creme Brulee from Archer Farms (got it from Target). What are you doing today, besides resting and *not* getting sick?

That coffee sounds really good! Although I am partial to buying whole bean coffee and grinding it myself and my guess is that the Cream Brule is already ground, right? Archer Farms has a delicious bag tea- chocolate mint, it’s so addictive! You should try it if you like mint tea.

Today I am just chilling, doing some laundry, cleaning and putting together a new post for the blog with a fall makeup look.

My foot feels slightly better today although it hurt really bad yesterday and I am tempted to go to zumba tonight but I probably shouldn’t.

Yes, it’s already ground. I’ve tried doing my own bean grinding but don’t have the coordination/patience for it first thing in the morning. I need to get that coffee in me ASAP, LOL!

You know what I’ve been kind of wanting, though? One of those Nespresso machines. I tried a coffee from one recently and it was SO good, and it was really easy to use.

It might not be a good idea to work out just yet if there’s still pain in your foot because you don’t want to re-injure it. Maybe some light stretching?

I know! I love my Shu curler, so this would be a fun version to pick up as backup. Also the pencils with the paw prints! Cuute!

I had a laid-back weekend because this week (and the last one) was SO. BUSY. Did manage to test some new products out and do looks though. That’s always fun 🙂 Definitely followed your half marathon adventure on Instagram with great interest. Well done, girl (that fireman: HOT)!

I seriously can’t live without mine. Mine went missing once (Tabs hid it from me) and I nearly fell apart, LOL! I love how they give you lashes Just. Like. That. The eye pencils are lovely, too. Very long wearing. You just have to work quickly because they set very fast.

Sounds like you had a nice relaxing weekend. Can’t wait to read about the products! Did you find anything I need in my life ASAP? Last Saturday I did some product testing, too. I took a Guerlain highlighter for a spin and it was kind of life changing!

Thanks for following along the half marathon journey. I’m hobbling around today, eek! But it’s nothing that a few cookies can’t fix.

So, the cool thing about the fireman was that he was really nice! There were these long lines to take pics with groups of the SF firemen, but seriously, they were like an hour long. I was tired and just wanted my snapshot, so I tapped him on the shoulder and was like, “Can I please take a pic with you?” and he sweetly obliged.

Anywho, hope you’re having a nice day so far! Monday is just getting started here in California.

I like how sturdy Shu curlers are. I’ve tried a cheap one (my mistake. Never again) that broke several lashes off in one go. The Shiseido one is great for flatter eye shapes, but doesn’t seem as sturdy. Since it’s something you put near your eyes, you want it to be as safe as it can be!

Actually… have you tried the new Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss? I am not even a gloss girl, but those are SO GOOD! Smooth, lightweight, pigmented, and long-wearing (they aren’t even completely gone after a full meal). I’m impressed!

I hope the hobbling will get better soon! You definitely deserve some cookies 🙂

I’ve had the Chanel gloss on my list for FOREVER. Thank you for reminding me. I have to try it. Let me guess… you got a coral shade! 😀

Speaking of cookies, I just might have some for breakfast.

I think she needs a royal highness in front of it: “Her Royal Highness Roxy Giancarlo Kardashian.” What kind of cat is she? I’m not sure what Tabs is (he’s a stray who decided to grace me with his presence and fashion knowledge), but I think he might be part Ragdoll.

As soon as I saw the fake eyelashes, I was like “Well, they are a little bit too dramatic/playful for me” but then I thought that this is what Shupette would wear if she was a woman, and decided to love them with all my heart! This weekend was a very cooking focused for me and my family and we tried this one-pot french onion pasta from Joy The Baker blog, which was incredible! I think you will like too Karen!

P.S. Love your eye shadow look and girl, your blending skills are fierce!

Totally. I can’t see Choupette rocking “subtle” lashes while she lounges around with her two maids and Karl. No way! She’s all about big glam. Pink and crystals all the way!

Your dish sounds delish. Did you use a slow cooker? Believe it or not I’ve had one sitting in my garage for THREE YEARS. I need to dust that thing off and make a stew with it. If you ever run into a one pot recipe that’s vegetarian or pescatarian send it my way, girlfriend. 😀

Oh, and thank you about the blending. I used the “take a pic with a heavy flash” trick. It works like a charm!

We used my mom’s slow cooker and I know slow cooker are a bit of a drag for everyday cooking but once in a while, they are great to take out from the garage and do a little gastronomic wonder, haha.
So, if you feel like sitting down and eating a little past with your own slow cooker here is the recipe for the onion pasta http://joythebaker.com/2014/07/one-pot-french-onion-pasta/ and I think that apart from butter and cheese, this suits vegetarians!
And heavy flash trick or not, you sure know the blending game good and I always love how you make the best of a smokey eye, evolving it into something new and fresh!

Aww, and thanks for saying that about the makeup. There’s still a lot for me to learn, but I enjoy it very much which is why I keep trying LOL. Blending is really tricky! I feel like I’ve learned so many things the hard way, you know? Like, I have the tendency to over-blend everything into a muddy mess. Do you have any good tricks for making blending easier? I’m always looking for more!

Is the graphic on cleansing oil bottle printed on or a plastic wrapper around the bottle? The last limited-edition cleansing oil bottle had a plastic wrapper instead of printed on so it was disappointing.

The Eye-Need-Shu Liner in Midnight Black looks like the basic thing I’ll use to do the purrfect cat eye look! It looks so decadent with the pearl!! Now that allergy season has officially left my eyes to be great, I can line my eyes without looking like a raccoon and more like a cat! LOL

So that liner is a great choice! I love it because when it’s on the lash line you can actually see the pearl reflecting back. It’s super pretty.

Two miles is a great place to start. If you take it in baby steps and do smaller races first, then you can build up to a bigger race! They are fun and very addictive. And an excuse to load up on carbs, haha!

Yeah, I thought the ep was pretty slow. I think that in the grand scheme of the entire season, though, you need those slower sequences in between so that it’s not high intensity all the way, you know? Although I’m dying to see Morgan again! And I’m worried about Bob, and who else is gonna get picked off next. 🙁

Oh I wish I waited for your swatches and this blog post! I already have placed two orders: one for the cute eyelash curler (I want the charm even though I have never used an eyelash curler in my life lol) and one order for the orange silk-cushion blush. I wish I had waited for that promo code for the tote bag! I don’t need it but I want it!

That being said, I think my cat could be the face of his own cosmetics line. He is fat, orange and fluffy and has quite the personality! I think he could give Choupette a run for her money. lol.

Mario is half Maine Coon and I have had him since he was a cute little kitten. Time flies he is almost 10 years old now but acts like he is two! He was such a troublemaker as a kitten he would steal small jewelry like earrings and hide it places.

He lives with my parents since he is the family cat and kind of does what he wants anyways-I wouldn’t trust him living with me anyways because of the coyotes that run around here at night. A few cats have gone missing the past few months sadly.

Oh and he isn’t really afraid of dogs and will try and go after them sometimes (I have a 130 lb shepherd named Atticus and when they lived together they would either get along or fight like siblings haha). Mario also has a bunny stuffed animal he stole from my brother’s Easter basket when we were younger that he loves to beat up and drag around the house.

He has quite the personality to say the least! I think he is a tiger trapped in a domestic cat’s body!

My Shu Uemura order should be here Thursday! And my second order accidentally shipped to my parents so I get to pick that up and see Mario! I am excited. Glad to see the orange blush swatch ahead of time! Love it!

          Hi Elena,

I keep picturing this huge Maine Coon dragging a sad stuffed Easter bunny around the house and cracking up (Tabs has a similar relationship with a stuff orange kitty named Marmalade). Mario sounds like a cat with a big personality! Is he very affectionate?

(Oh, and your dog must be really patient.)

Have fun with your Shu products when you get them, and if you want send me a pic of you wearing your blush!

Trust me, the bunny is very sad. He grabs it by the neck and he has loved it so much over the years it has bald patches now lol. The sad thing is my brother and I both got the same stuffed animal (one brown and white the other black and white). We were going to use the black and white one to replace his beat down one and I think we donated it years ago! lol.

Mario is very picky when it comes to affection. He either loves you or just ignores you. He was not pleased when I brought a dog home that as a puppy was the size of him!

I will have to try on the blush and attempt a cat selfie when I go to pick it up at my parents!

            October 20th, 2014 at 3:40 pm

OK, it sounds like you’re going to have to do some serious Frankenstein stitching when the inevitable tail/ear/back leg falls off of Mario’s bunny. He would be crushed if his life-long frenemy disappears!

Aren’t cats totally psycho when it comes to love? It’s like they either totally want to be up in your grill or they’re just not that into you. It is emotionally exhausting. I’ve actually thought about getting Tabs a dog, but I don’t know if I could deal with the drama that I’m sure would happen. Did it take a long time to get Atticus and Mario to become friends?

Oh, if you get the chance to take a cat/Shupette selfie do it! 😀

I got my makeup done by an it Cosmetics makeup artist at an event at my local ULTA on Saturday, it was fun! I already use and love their CC Cream (love that mineral SPF and glowing finish), Bye Bye Undereye, Bye Bye Redness (awesome), their primer mascara on my lower lashes and their regular mascara on my uppers (it actually curls them!). I came away with the Radiance Palette (beautiful, and I wouldn’t have looked at it if you hadn’t written about it), a tube of Vitality Lip Flush in Pure Joy (way prettier than it looks in the tube), and some of the new brushes they make for ULTA. Their original Ball Wand Brush has become one of my daily favorites, so I wanted more 🙂

But in the past couple years it has grown on me, and then after I finished my first full in July I had this odd moment of realization that I am, in fact, a runner 😀

Okay, Karen, I am freaking out! I LOVE Shupette. SHU-PETTE! There are no words. I can honestly say that I would just go crazy and do everything (smoky eyes, sparkly eyes, crazy cat eyes, bronze and silver smokey eyes) and try every lipstick after staring at the all in one palette for ages.

My favorite cat’s eye liner is a rapidly-diminishing liquid liner pen from Nyx. I’m trying to decide what to try next – but I can’t justify another black liner right now when I have 6 of them and nothing else. Turquoise is next on my list, hopefully.

That midnight black liner is gorgeous!! And I’m normally a brown type gal.

But I have to say, the eyeshadow look you created is one of the most gorgeous I’ve seen in awhile! Must recreate immediately.

I am definitely in need of this whole collection! My perfect cat eye would use the Eye-Need-Shu Trio in Toyko Kawaii. I think the colour would be perfect with my kitties’ green eyes…I mean my green eyes! 😉

I’d just do Eye-Need-Shu Liner in Gala Brown (since there’s some thing about a brown cat eye that’s just softer), with the Has It All palette to complement.

The “has it all lip and eye pallet” would be my choice then…would have to look at your videos to learn how to do a smokey eye!! Not too good at that..even at 47 years old!! SAD…

Karen your eyes!! WOW!!! If I only knew how to use blue eye shadow without looking like I was in a brawl! Still I would go with Eye-Need-Shu Trio in Parisienne Chic and Midnight Black.

I love the silk cushion. I am stumped when it comes to choosing just one. I think I might just go with orange.

The false eyelashes and the navy eyeliner are amazing. I’d definitely use those to catify (?) feline-ify (?) meowify (?) my look. What an adorable collection from one crazy cat lady to another.

Oh, those furry fantasy false lashes would be a must for the purrrfect cat eye. 🙂 And, OK, I have to admit that Choupette is very cute in the video. Truly the artist’s rendering of her on the packaging doesn’t do her justice (and I’m not crazy about the Shupette font). That said, I can see how her so-evil-they’re-eeveeel plans for thwarting Tabs and world domination go unpunished. But we all know what’s behind that beautiful, furry, innocent looking face. You’re not fooling us, Choupette! 😉

The Has-It-All palette has such a gorgeous grouping of eye shadows, I’d use the black shadow with a damp brush for a softer cat eye paired with the rose and wine colors.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
