Purple Power! A New Purple Liner Love I Found at Sephora

May 16th, 2017 by Karen 15 Comments

purple eyeliners
Kindasorta obsessed with purple at the moment. Here’s an assortment of old faves (and a new one!) from the top: MAC Eye Kohl in Prunella ($17), Urban Decay Glide on Eye Pencil in Vice ($20), Sephora Colorful Shadow & Liner in Violet ($14), Make Up For Ever Waterproof Eye Pencil in 1-90 ($21) and MAC Pearlglide Intense in Designer Purple ($17)

It’s both wonderful and terrifying to live so close to a Sephora, because when I get on a makeup whim, I can just hop in my car, and BAM! Five minutes later I’ve got every purple liner in the store swatched on the back of my hand.

Yeah, I’m going through a purple liner phase right meow, big time (in case you haven’t noticed, LOL!). I love the look of a warm brown lid with purple liner on the lash lines. I’ve just been into it lately! Please be patient with me as I work my way through it…

Anyways, Connor convinced me to go to Sephora last Friday (yes, it was all the baby’s doing), so we went looking for a new purple to add to my collection. This latest love is a shade called Violet by Sephora Collection.

Violet!

Violet is from their Colorful Shadow & Liner Waterproof Line, and I think it’s been around for a while, but it’s new to me. They’re chubby crayons that you can use as liners or eyeshadows, and there are mattes, shimmers and glitters, all for a pretty affordable $14 a stick.

Besides the pretty purple color — which looks like someone liquefied the perfect violet blossom, poured it into a pencil, then added a twinge of shimmer — it doesn’t set so quickly that you don’t have any time to play.

All of the bright purple liners in my collection right now — like this one from Make Up For Ever that I can never remember the name of, Urban Decay Vice and MAC Designer Purple — dry very fast.

Like, seriously, less than a minute! — so there’s never enough time for me to play.

But with this one, which is so vibrant and eye-catching, I get 2-3 minutes. That isn’t a ton of time compared to MAC Prunella (another favorite purple of mine, but it’s darker than the others and stays wet for about 10 minutes), but it’s enough time for me to smudge it out.

It’s so vibrant! I have the color purple (kekeke) from the Sephora collection and it’s also quite pretty. Love the long-lasting formula too! You’re inspiring me to pull it out of my stash!

      Hi Indya,

Are you talking about the shade Electric Diva? Kerstin also mentioned it here in the comments!

Nope, it’s called straight up “Purple.” I got it a few years back so they might have renamed it by now. But now I want all the purples!

Electric Diva from the Sephora line is one of my favorite purples. Also, Chanel Cassis if you are looking for a plum liner. This one is my absolute favorite.

      Hi Kerstin,

I have Chanel Cassis and love it. Been a minute since I’ve worn it though. Thanks for the reminder! Gotta bust it out soon.

How long does it take for Electric Diva to dry down? Is it one of those fast-drying pencils? I need some playtime.

Hi Karen! My bad. It is called Eccentric Diva and it is one of the Sephora Gel Eye Contour pencils. It takes a few minutes for it to dry down so you have time to play with it and it lasts all day. Also, Marc. Jacobs matte velvet liner in Grape Vine is another purple I’ d recommend I also love NARS Larger than Life eyeliner in Bourbon Street (the color) but these eyeliners dry out too quickly to repurchase I wish Nars would re formulate them.

Ha, just noticed this post & thread! So yeah. Gonna bring my comment over here about Chanel’s Purple Choc Stylo Yeux – totally mention-worthy for this category, imo. I can’t be 100% sure, but I think it looks a bit like the UD Vice in the pic above. Loving it so much. 🙂

These crayons are amazing! I have taupe and khaki and they are both well loved. Carol already convinced me that the purple shade needed to be added to my collection, and you agree, so it it on top 1 of my shopping list for the next holiday.

    Designer Purple is sooo pretty!
I know what you mean about living close to a Sephora. There’s one in the mall that’s on the way back from my runs with Dear Husband. If I dawdle enough on the weekends getting ready, I know it will be open by the time I’m returning from my exercise. (I’m usually alone at that point because I’m 5 ft. and Dear Husband is 6 ft. and I just can’t keep up with his long stride.) Sometimes I just pop in to get a sample or swatch things I’m curious about. Other times I have my CC tucked into that tiny pocket on my running pants.

Oh, Mac’s Prunella! I wore that on my wedding day, such a great colour. Virtually no eyepencil wants to stay in my waterline ever apart from for Makeup For Ever’s ones and the Marc Jacob’s Highliners. However, I’m tempted by Vice, such a great shade!

Karen, I don’t know if anyone has told you this about being a mom but, it’s absolutely critical to a child’s development that you go to Sephora every time she asks. I can’t stress this enough. Critical. 😉

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
