Are the RiRi Hearts MAC Lipsticks in Nude, Talk That Talk, Who’s That Chick and RiRi Woo Channeling the ’90s?

September 17th, 2013 by Karen 41 Comments

RiRi Hearts MAC Lipsticks
The new RiRi Hearts MAC Fall collection includes four Lipsticks at $16.50 each

Well pass me a button-down flannel and fire up the Soundgarden, because I’m getting a decidedly ’90s vibe from the four lipsticks in the new RiRi Hearts MAC fall collection.

I wore lippies similar to these back then, when I wasn’t wearing MAC Paramount. The colors take me back to a kinder, gentler time…back when tiny black backpacks, spaghetti-strap dresses and baby tees ruled the world! — and when Lil’ Kim wasn’t so frightening.

The 20-piece RiRi Hearts MAC collection takes center stage inside MAC stores September 26, online at maccosmetics.com September 30, and at MAC counters October 3.

What do ya think? What’s the verdict on these?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Do you like Nude, Karen?

The formula is great, and it’s very opaque, but it looks a little gray (at least on me) in person, which you really have to like. It photographs beautifully, though. Gray tones don’t show up as much, for some reason.

Uh-oh. The swatch looks that way but on the lips, not so much. You can pull off a lot of shades that I can’t lol
I use Studio Fix NC43 and have a hard time with “nude” shades especially without a liner. Cherish and Touch are OK but other shades like Mocha and Freckletone come out more pink than brown or simply frosty (Tyrone Biggums) on me.
Don’t know why I keep looking at browns/neutrals lol

Do you live near a Neiman Marcus? The best nude I’ve run into for fall is Tom Ford’s Sable Smoke. Expensive but flawless:

I have a hard time with nudes too, and this one is epic.

Nowhere near LOL and the exchange rate is $6.5 or so USD to $1.00 TTD. I have checked out that shade before online, though. Perhaps a Christmas splurge!
Also going to look into MAC Spice and Wholesome (whilst I’m pondering Riri’s Nude).
            Thanks a lot!

Spice is wonderful. I’ve worn it for years and you can seriously use it with everything. Even just a little bit of clear gloss or balm and you’re good! Let me know what you end up getting. 🙂

I thought I wanted Talk That Talk, every several swatches I’m seen, I changed my mind on it. BUT Who’s That Chick, Nude and RiRi Woo lipglass are on my hitlist.

Karen, how does Talk the Talk compare to Rebel by Mac. I’m the same foundation shade as you are, would u recommend any of these lipsticks as a must have?

      Hi Paula,

Rebel is much more magenta and has a brightness to it that Talk the Talk lacks. It also has a bit of a sheen to it, while Talk the Talk is a straight up matte. HTH!

      Hi Natalie,

It’s a little crazy to start, but after it settles in it actually looks really pretty! I haven’t tried it yet with a clear gloss, but I bet that would help to mellow out the frost and make it more wearable.

I’m sorry, but I find those frosty lipsticks exceptionally ugly and unflattering, esp for anyone much past 30, but actually for everyone! And the Riri Woo looks uncomfortably dry. Another pass I guess.

      Hi Bella,

Sometimes I get freaked out by frosty lipsticks too, but I think you can do a few tricks to making them wearable. I usually go with a lighter application or slick a gloss on top. Tones down the frost just enough so that it looks less scary!

OMG, help me. I just realized – for sure – that I’m stuck in the 90s with my lip preferences. I love Talk that Talk, though I’d probably have to lightly dab it (and blot like crazy) before I’d wear it myself. And, btw, I laughed out loud over the flannel button down comment. Guilty. 🙂

    Hi Karen,
I’d love to buy ‘nude’, because I really prefer darker nudes over shades like Creme Cup, etc. Do you think the lipstick will work with my NC15/20 skin?

Love talk that talk and nude…definitely on my need-to-have-that list…I love matte finishes…somehow, they look more elegant to me. Already own RiRi Woo, and I am now debating whether to buy the RiRi Woo lip pencil along with the Bad Girl Gone Good blush..😉. Any suggestions?
