Officially, this MAC matte lipstick is a warm pink, but on my lips it looks red, yet the name is Cordon Bleu, like the color blue.
We should just rename it something like, “When Colors Confusingly Collide.” ?
I wore this lippy last week in one of the Charlotte Tilbury posts not realizing just how much it would steal the show. It’s one of the Matte Lip Mousse lipsticks from the MAC Pony Park collection, so it’s limited edition (I know), and while a lot of the items from that launch are sold out, Cordon Bleu is still available.
The Matte Lip Mousse lippies play on the blurry edged lip trend that’s happening right now, so they’re designed to draw a diffused edge that feathers out ever so slightly.
You don’t really have to do anything fancy to get the effect either — just apply it with the doefoot directly onto your lips. Don’t worry, it won’t travel outside your natural lip line, so you won’t end up looking like the accidental Joker.
Cordon Bleu’s lightweight mousse formula stays put, feels comfy, and best of all, doesn’t dry out lips. It also tastes and smells like MAC’s signature vanilla, which I love. If you’re a fan of MAC Relentlessly Red Lipstick, I think you’ll like this color, too, because it has similar warm coral undertones.
Quick update
Still here at my parents’ house in the East Bay. No word yet as to when the power will be back up for good for the entire county, but supposedly it’ll be sometime today… I’m hoping that’ll happen, but I’m not banking on it. I’ve heard there’s also a chance the power will shut off again tonight, and so if that’s the case, I’ll be back here in my childhood backyard eating persimmons, deep breathing and trying to go with the flow until the end of the week.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Did you intend to be creative with your photo angles? It looks like a few might be askew. But, very artistic per usual.
That color looks great on you. I need your dad’s orchid growing tips. Related–did you see that Midsomer Murders episode about the orchid murders?
Hang in there!
Karen says
LOL, yes, that’s on purpose!

Nice to have family in times like these; all the best for a happy return to normal. BTW, hair looks good!
Karen says
It is. I’m grateful and thankful for my parents!
And thanks for the compliment about my hair, because I feel like it gets unrulier every day. ?

Pretty lip color. Heading to SF today for a haircut and hoping to stop into the Powell St. Sephora and MAC stores. And Barneys, too while it still exists. I really need to get some Rodan+Fields lash serum, because darn girl your lashes look like you’re wearing false lashes!!!!
Those persimmons look delish! I really want to plant a persimmon tree, but something wild in my neighborhood keeps eating my plants. Everything from my outdoor potted herbs, the under sides of my tomatoes, my Halloween pumpkin and they even dug up and stole the garlic I planted. Grrrr.
Dear Daughter’s power came back yesterday afternoon, but they texted her to say it was going out again this evening. This has gotten so old. I’ve told her that she and her cat are welcome to stay with us until this craziness is over.
Karen says
Have fun in the city today. Are you doing anything new with your hair?
Re: something eating the plants. I hope it’s not rats! ?

I luu-ve your hair! The grays, the layers… so sophisticated and striking.

Sending my love to you and your family. I can’t imagine what you’re going through.

Your hair is gorgeous. I’m bringing these pics to my stylist next time I go!

Oooh I miss persimmons! That lip color is gorgeous!

Hey Ms. Karen,
I’m late to the party but I had to say “hello!” Your hair is so beautiful!! Girl, I’m 57 and skerd to go grey so I applaud you!! My temples even begin to grey and I freak! I thought I might be the only weird0 in the whole world who loves persimmons — my dad and I used to hunt for them in the woods when I was a little girl. Those are amazing!! Love that lippie! You can pull of anything thought girl…. goodness what I would give for that lash serum ! My lashes are already long though so I need to smh..
xoxo,
Gina (and now, Mysti)

I’m so sorry, Karen – I’m just catching up on this week’s posts and didn’t realize about the power and that you’ve been displaced. I hope everything will be back to normal soon. I’m very glad that your parents are relatively close and that you’re able to stay somewhere comfortable and familiar! <3
I think your hair looks great! Not unruly at all; though I realize you probably tamed it before the photos. HAHA! I have a Burt's Bees lippie that is very similar to this color and I hate it on me (looks fab on you, of course). It's a fairly bright fuchsia on my lips and not flattering at all.
Did you say that you had a night guard to help with grinding your teeth? I just got one this week, more to use as a night time retainer so my teeth won't shift. It is NOT what I expected at all. I thought it would be more like a mouthguard/invisalign that is snug from gumline to the edges of my teeth. Not even close! Was just wondering what yours was like. Or maybe I'm misremembering and you don't even have one.

The color looks great on you!
But I have issues with the name though I usually LOVE products with names instead of boring numbers. In Germany ‚Cordon Bleu‘ is a schnitzel with a cut pocket, and this pocket is filled with ham and cheese. It was a special dish in the 80s. ???
Karen says
Well that sounds DELICIOUS! I love any sort of ham and cheese combo!
Anne says
I wonder why they called it Cordon Bleu, as Daniela pointed out already this is a chicken filet with cheese and ham (which I do like, mainly because of the cheese).
Not what I would expect in a lipstick though!
