What you need to know: Laura Mercier Cocoa Caviar Stick Eye Color is a flexible brown cream shadow stick your time-pressed self needs, so if you’re building a better makeup bag and you love a workhorse brown neutral, this absolutely HAS to be in there because it doesn’t move, and you can wear it a bunch of different ways. (It’s available at Ulta for $29.)
This cocoa is a pain in the butt.
It’s the cocoa powder we use at the bakery, and whenever I have to dig into the bin, the powder is so fine that it gets all over the place! — my apron, my leggings, my face, everywhere. As adept as it is at making stuff taste good, it’s highly annoying, especially when you accidentally leave two big ol’ cocoa powder palm prints on your backside and don’t realize it until a stranger buying tuna at Trader Joe’s points it out.
This other Cocoa by Laura Mercier is not a pain in the butt…
In fact, it’s the complete opposite of a pain in the butt, which I guess would be a pleasure in the butt? 🙄 Yeah, did I really say that out loud? You can *always* count on me to make it super awkward for everyone, my friend!
“What the hell is this?” you’re probably wondering. “It looks like beef jerky.”
What can I say? I’ve got a thing for beef jerky browns. WHERE’S THE BEEF?
It’s right here in this satiny brown cream shadow stick, and it’s the main dish your makeup bag needs if you are 1) upright and breathing , 2) if you’ve ever caught yourself saying, “Oh crap! I’ve gotta leave in five minutes, so I should probably put on some underwear and makeup!” and/or 3) if you like flexible products you can use in many different ways.
Use it by itself for a simple brown smoky eye, or layer it as a base for your other neutral shadows. Bronze, gold, taupe, tan, peach, all the shades of brown (SO MANY). If you love all the colors in the neutral rainbow, Cocoa’s neutral brown base will deepen and add color to any combos you layer on top. The entire neutral world — heck, UNIVERSE — is your oyster.

Cocoa is also long lasting, and once it’s on lids, it won’t move, so tell those “experience lines” not to worry. Just be aware that when you jooj it around your lids, you only have a few minutes to play before it completely sets.
Anyway, it’s my new favorite thing. 😊
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
It looks great and I totally laughed that you looked like Count Chocula gave you a spanking in Trader Joe’s. And that a stranger told you! HAHA! I don’t have the lids for shadow anymore (I tried it out this weekend and it…. ugh.. that ship has sailed). But, it looks good on you!! 🙂
Such a pretty color. Seems to be sold out everywhere I looked. Sigh.
What brand of cocoa do you use at the bakery? Or is it a trade secret?
I find it interesting someone at TJs pointed out you had cocoa on your bum. When I was in grad school for an MFA I would frequently rush out of the studio to pick dear daughter up from preschool then go grocery shopping before rushing home to make dinner. I always got stares and weird looks. Then I’d get in the car and flip down the visor mirror and realize I had either paint or charcoal smeared all over myself. Not to mention about half the time dear daughter was caked in mud from playing outside half the afternoon. Lol.
I have the LM Caviar Stick in Plum and love it. It works really well with the Dior Cool Neutrals Backstage Eye Palette. I can easily see myself ordering the Caviar Stick in several more colors.
I loooove the caviar sticks! I am not great at make up and they’re so easy to use. I’ve bought most on Ebay, which I *know* is risky. I’m not advising that but of course they’re a lot more affordable that way. I love the Amethyst shade.
