Origins Lip Swatches (LOTS of Them), Post-Thanksgiving Doldrums, and Michael B. Jordan (BABE!)

November 27th, 2018 by Karen 29 Comments

Seriously, what was I thinking?? Yesterday I thought I’d just get back in the saddle, sit at my desk, and resume my pre-Thanksgiving work groove…

Nope! Apparently, I must have lost my damn mind, because why is it SO HARD to get back into the swing of things after a big holiday? Especially Thanksgiving? I don’t know… (Maybe it’s all the food.)

Yesterday was a tough one. I love my routines, and the holiday broke ’em.

Anyway, it’s always hard for me to get back into my routines after a holiday, and I know it’s hard for other people, too. It’s vexing. I’m vexed… Ha ha ha! Yesterday morning I sat at my desk for three hours trying to describe Fresh Seaberry Skin Nutrition Cleansing Oil while everything and the kitchen sink crossed my mind.

I simply could NOT concentrate, so, on that note, here’s a picture of Michael B. Jordan…

He is SO adorable. I saw him in Creed II the other night, and El Hub was like, “Hey, I wanna watch Creed II,” and I was like, “Boxing? Meh… But Michael B. Jordan? ALRIGHT!”

And it’s not just that he’s good-looking (he is though!). He’s also a good actor, and I’ve seen him in interviews and other things, and he seems like he as a good head on his shoulders, but who knows, right? The media portrays people in a certain light, and the light that bathes Michael B. Jordan is GOOD, ha ha!

Anyway, he seems like a nice guy. And polite.

Don’t ask me why, but polite does it for me. I mean, the handsomeness and the muscles do it for me too, but good manners and good grammar go a long way, which is why I married my husband.

Anyway!

It’s a good movie if you’re looking for something to watch on date night (Side note: It was co-written by Sylvester Stallone. Who would’ve thunk it?).

Now, just so I don’t leave you without anything makeup-related whatsoever, here are a whole lotta lip swatches from Origins…

origins lipsticks
New lipsticks and balms by Origins ($20 each)

Origins just relaunched a line of really, REALLY good lipsticks and lip balms. They’re super moisturizing, smooth, and they don’t settle into lip lines.

The lipsticks are similar to the MAC Amplified Cremes (hella pigmented!), but the balms are sheer and moisturizing like the NARS Orgasm Lip Balm that came out last spring. I have one in every pocket of every coat.

They’re addictive that way.

From the PR:

What It Is:
Kissed by nature. Made with 12 flowers, this long-wear lipstick provides bold, rich, full-coverage color that hydrates & conditions, stays color-true & lasts all day. Available in 24 fresh-picked shades.

What It Does:
The power of nature meets the proof of science. Infused with Crushed Petals, repurposed Buttery Flower Waxes, Flower Honeys & Essential Oils, this full-coverage lipstick packs a punch of color without skimping on what’s important. It keeps lips, hydrated, conditioned & smooth for hours & stays brilliantly bold from morning to night.

We Formulate Without:
Parabens, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, propylene glycol, mineral oil, DEA, petrolatum, paraffin, polyethylene beads, formaldehyde & animal ingredients*
*except cruelty-free honey & beeswax

Ingredients:
12 FLOWERS
From Lavender to Rose, we infused a dozen Flowers into our lip-loving colors. Crushed Petals, repurposed Buttery Flower Waxes from perfumeries & Wildflower Honey help condition & protect your pout from dryness while helping give our lipstick its petal-soft texture. Essential Oils scent the shades. Inspired by nature & made with nature, Blooming Bold™ brings out your bold beauty.

I remember in the late 90s Origins had these creamy, chubby lip pencils and lip glazes that were really ahead of their time. The lip pencil I wore was called “Pearly Jam” (SO NINETIES), and it was the prettiest red/berry with a subtle shimmer. Anyone else remember those?

      Hi Amanda,

I have a vague recollection of those chubby lip pencils! Love that name, btw. 🙂

I loved Pearly Jam! I put their gold gloss over the top of it:). I worked for Origins, so I have a deep love for them. They got rid of all the really cool makeup they had during the late nineties and early 00’s..makes me sad.

I loved those pencils! I probably threw them out a couple of years ago. I moved to an area that didn’t sell Origins and forgot all about them. But they were awesome!!

I also have the post-Thanksgiving doldrums. It was so nice to have a 4 day weekend and it sucks thinking I won’t have another paid day off until Christmas. Boo. I bought a bunch of Origins skincare online at Macy’s on Black Friday because they had awesome deals on sets and lots of gifts with purchase. I haven’t really used their makeup though.

      Ooh, what did ya get?

The only things I got at Macy’s were boring… Tights and underwear. Necessary but super boring. LOL!

They had a “best of origins” set, and I got a plantscriptions set. Then if you spent over $60 you ended up with all sorts of free gifts. So I should be set for a while with skincare! Of course I bought a few things at Sephora on Black Friday too, can’t beat those deals!

I love the finish on those lipsticks. I was sick of mattes about 5 minutes after they came out and for a while that was all you could get! These are prettier than a natural finish but not overwhelming on shine. I’m going to check them out.

      Hi Kellly,

They are SO good. They lay so smoothly and don’t catch onto flakes or settle into lines! I think you’ll love them.

I think he’s one of those guys that appeals to young women all the way through grannies! Even my mom admits he’s pretty charming! Those lip balms look nice, I’m a fan of sheer tints, but it’s funny they seem to either be so sheer as to be invisible, or surprisingly pigmented.

      Hi Katie,

The lip balms may register as more pigmented on your lips; mine are pretty pigmented so a lot of the colors look kinda the same.

Good to know! I’ll swatch them next time I see them, I only have moderately pigmented lips.

He’s so handsome and what else has he been in? I can’t remember and I’m on deadline at work so I really can’t surf right now.
I haven’t seen the first Creed yet so maybe we’ll do a family Creed marathon over Christmas.
Also, I’m assuming that as a boxing fan, hubs has already seen The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale but if he hasn’t, he must. Best boxing movie I’ve ever seen. I think Christian Bale’s performance is probably the finest acting of my generation.

Also, there’s no need for you to get back into your groove yet. We’ve got the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations to go and all the pre-stuff. No worries until January.

I have to admit I have been in love with Michael B. Jordan since he played Wallace on The Wire. To have such heart as a child actor . . . He had such a memorable role. That was a fantastic series and he just stood out, along with Michael K. Williams (Omar). If you haven’t seen this series, I highly recommend it.

      Hi Divina,

I’ve heard good things about that show, and I’ve started it a couple times, but had a hard time getting into it. Is it like The Shield?

IMO, it is much better than The Shield. It’s grittier, the actors are better. It might be accessible on HBO or Showtime. I believe that some of the actors are real people of Baltimore. And not only is MBJ in it, but so is *gasp* Idris Elba!

Hubs and son 2 went to see Creed 2 and loved it. They even found Rocky 4 and watched that. I’m not surprised Stalone wrote it…he wrote Rocky and it won Best Picture. It’s amazing to think that movie is over 40 years old and he’s maintained that character.
Those lipsticks look great. I’m actually toying with going on a no buy for 2019, only replacement items can be purchased. Given that red or berry lipsticks in any purse at any given time I may be waiting a while.
I did get an unexpected $100 Sephora gift card from my boss…what would you splurge on? I’m having a tough time deciding on one big thing or lots of things.

I have loved Michael B. Jordon since he played Alex on Parenthood! I loved that show! Also, loved him in the first Creed. Definitely want to see Creed II but hubby got a little mad that the character moved from Philly to LA. We’re from Philly, Rocky’s from Philly, he thinks Creed should have stayed in Philly.

Anyway, those Origins lippies look nice! I’ll need to check some out!

Hello, Friend! I hope you had a terrific Thanksgiving and hear you 100% about getting back into the swing of things. After my 2 weeks in Asia and then a day trip to Toronto, I was half dead for our break. I’m still not quite up to speed. However – I did find something for you in Hong Kong and am sending it out today. It’s no biggie so don’t get excited. Just a hard-to-find item I know you like. 🙂
