The Orange Beauty Edit

May 25th, 2016 by Carolina Braina 25 Comments

Orange Beauty Products
A few of my favorite orange beauty products

I LUUURVE orange.

To me it is such a mood- and energy-boosting color… It makes me think of a summer sunset on the beach, when the sun is an orange ball of fire and everything looks magically better in its warm light.

Since orange-toned makeup is my favorite to wear at this time of the year, today I thought I’d tell you about some of my favorite products in this fun, energetic hue, including a couple of non-makeup extras.

Let’s dive right in!

Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in Flame ($52)

Tom Ford Lip Color Matte Flame

Wearing the Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in Flame on my lips, the MADINA Prisma Blush in 03 on my cheeks, and the Essie Nail Polish in Fifth Avenue on my nails

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this lipstick. I don’t know if it’s because it’s called ‘Flame’ (apparently, I have a thing for makeup products whose names evoke fire or places in North Africa… – don’t ask), or because I got it last time I visited my favorite city in the world (AKA the City by the Bay), or because of its perfect point of red-orange that I like to wear no matter the season or time of the day… All I know is that I love it with my heart and soul, and if I had to keep only one lipstick out of my entire collection (oh gawd, the thought of giving up all my lipsticks but one is beyond horrifying… Why did I even go there?!), it would most likely be this one.

The Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in Flame is the lipstick I chose to ring in my third decade on this planet, and it remained pretty much intact through an Italian-style BBQ, two desserts and numerous toasts.

Despite having a bomb staying power, it’s very comfortable on the lips and doesn’t dry them out…

Did I mention that I LOVE it?

Maybelline Color Sensational The Creamy Mattes in Craving Coral ($7.99)

Wearing the Maybelline Color Sensational The Creamy Mattes in Craving Coral on my lips, and the MADINA Prisma Blush in 03 on my cheeks

If the thought of giving Mr. Ford 52 pretty dollars makes you cringe, there obviously are plenty of budget-friendly, but still top quality, options.

One that pretty much everyone should have easy access to is the Maybelline Color Sensational The Creamy Mattes in Craving Coral. I love how this one has almost like a gel texture that glides beautifully on the lips.

It’s a texture that is quite thin, so the staying power is not the best you’ll ever come across, but it wears off evenly and is very easy to reapply straight from the bullet. On the bright side, it’s so comfortable on the lips that you’ll forget you’re even wearing it.

Lancôme Lip Lover in 336 Orange Manège ($24)

Lancôme Lip Lover 336 Orange Manège

Despite the name, the Lancôme Lip Lover 336 in Orange Manège leans very coral

If you like a juicy pout, the Lancôme Lip Lover formula is one you shouldn’t miss. It’s pretty pigmented, moisturizing, and non-sticky, yet it lasts nicely on the lips.

Also, if you don’t like yellow-based oranges, I think Orange Manège will be a great option for you, since it has a lot of pink to it.

Diego Dalla Palma Lip Pencil in 87 Orange (£13.82)

Diego dalla Palma Lip Pencil 87 Orange

The Diego Dalla Palma Lip Pencil in 87 Orange (which you can see in action in my brand spotlight) is the perfect compromise between comfort and longevity. I like that it is hard enough to outline the lips with precision, but not so stiff that it hurts when I fill them in.

MADINA Prisma Blush in 03

MADINA Prisma Blush 03

I know most of you don’t have access to MADINA, but the Prisma Blush in 03 is so good that I just had to feature it once again (did you catch my previous post on the amazing brand that is MADINA Milano?).

It’s such a pigmented and vibrant shade of orange-coral that less is definitely more on my light complexion, but if applied right it gives me the most gorgeous luminous flush and makes me look all fresh and healthy.

Essie Nail Polish in Fifth Avenue ($8.59)

I don’t have any orange orange nail lacquers, but the red-orange Fifth Avenue from Essie happens to be my absolute favorite to wear in the warmer months.

I’ve already mentioned it among my spring beauty essentials, but I realized that I didn’t show you how it looks on the nails, so here it is…

Essie Nail Polish Fifth Avenue Swatches

OSKIA Renaissance Brightlight Intesive Pigmentation & Dark Spot Serum (£85)

OSKIA Renaissance Brightlight Intesive Pigmentation & Dark Spot Serum

If you’re looking for a product to fade any sun spots or post-blemish marks, I highly recommend trying the OSKIA Renaissance Brightlight serum, as I’ve been using it for a little over a month and have already noticed good results. It contains ingredients like vitamin C, niacinamide, arbutin, and fruit enzymes to specifically target pigmentation and dull skin. Plus, it’s orange! 😉

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge ($6.99)

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

This orange beauty edit wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t mention the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge!

Before you ask, I’ve never used the original beautyblender ($20), so I don’t know how this one compares to it. I tried the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge first and liked it so much that didn’t really felt the need to spend almost three times as much to get the original.

I’ve had it for about nine months and it’s still going strong! I use the pointy side to blend in and set with powder my under-eye concealer, and the flat side to set the rest of my face or to take off any excess blush or bronzer I may have applied.

If you made it here, I guess it means you like orange beauty products, too! So please tell me, what are your favorites? 😉

MAC Lady Danger is my favorite orange! It’s mostly orange but with enough red to make it wearable on me!

MAC Barbecue (limited edition – but coming out in a collection this summer, I believe) it’s slightly less orange than Lady Danger but still very orangey! And comfortable to wear, too!

From MAC I really like the Velvetease Lip Pencil in Lover’s Line. That’s VERY orange, though!

I never appreciated orange in California, but once I moved to the PNW I needed it more an more in my decor. It’s so bright but comforting. Orange makeup and clothing is tricky for me.

I have the Real Techniques sponge and it has become a staple in my routine! It really makes a difference, especially with foundations that are harder to apply or tend to look cakey.

Luckily, I don’t have any foundations that are cakey or hard to apply, but I can see it working really well for that. Sometimes, I like to dab it all over my face after my base to make everything more even.

Great post! I love orange/red lips for summer, and that Tom Ford lipstick is amazing on you, although I’m not sure I could part with that much cash for a lipstick 🙂 When I was young my mom had an orange lipstick from Avon that I used to play with, so I guess that’s were the love started!

Yeah, Tom Ford makeup is insanely expensive and that lipstick is the only piece I own. If I had access to it, I think at some point I’d treat myself to a quad, but we don’t get Tom Ford makeup here in Italy.

These are all gorgeous oranges! Craving Coral is a favorite of mine, as well. I also love Kat von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in A Go-Go, Kat von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Halo, MAC Barebecue (LE, but it’s being re-released in the upcoming Blue Nectar collection), and e.l.f. Moisturizing Lipstick in Orange Dream. I tend to go really bright orange, or red-orange, because those don’t call attention to the yellow cast to my teeth. (I have transparent tooth enamel, so the yellow inside shows through.) With blush, I usually go more coral, but I love Urban Decay Afterglow in Quiver and Sleek Blush x 3 in Pumpkin. I like MUFE Artist Shadow in ME734 (Tangerine) as both a blush and an eyeshadow.

Oooh, I’ve always been attracted to MUFE Tangerine! My only ornage shadow (although it’s more of a red-orange) is Slowburn from the UD Electric palette. I love it and use it quite a lot in the summer.

I swear you have an aesthetic. And you work it so. Well! Ok, orange. NARS Taj Mahal is my all time fave orange makeup product. I also have a couple of orange polishes from Essie & a beautiful orange lippie from Bite Beauty- the names of which I can’t remember. I don’t wear either nearly enough but an orange lippie is def a power color 🙂 I have the Real Techniques sponge as well. I can tell the difference between it & the beauty blender but find them both equally impressive.

I don’t have NARS Taj Mahal, but I’ve always thought it looked amazing.
Aaaah, Bite Beauty… I wish I had access to it! While I was in the States I got a lipstick from the now discontinued range (Luminous Crème Lipstick in Palomino) that I love to bits. I’d really like to try the new Amuse Bouche lipsticks.
