New Year’s Eve Makeup Ideas from Benefit Cosmetics Co-Founder Jean Ford

December 31st, 2008 by Karen 10 Comments

Earlier this month I got the chance to chat with Jean Ford, co-creator of the Benefit Cosmetics line.

To be blunt, Jean’s hot (and *very* tall!), and she has lots of fierce fashion and makeup advice.

We talked about high heels and Foot Petal inserts, makeup trends and what kind of makeup to wear to parties.

Jean even offered some tips for creating a soft and subtle brown and pink look for New Year’s Eve. Thanks, Jean!

Come hither eyes

For this look, start with a deep, rich cocoa colored shimmery shadow on the lids, working the color just barely into the crease. Try the dark brown shade from the Big Beautiful Eyes Palette (a shimmery dark brown) or Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in Busy Signal (also a shimmery brown).

Next, ramp it up by patting a shimmery pink eyeshadow like Lust Duster loose eyeshadow in Cloud 9 on top of the brown. Use your fingers to place the shadow on the center of the lid and to blend out the edges.

Finish the eyes with your favorite liner and two coats of mascara.

Pink cheeks and lips

To balance out the eyes without taking the focus away from them, keep the cheeks and lips soft and pink.

Try three dots of Posie Tint (a sheer pink liquid lip and cheek tint) placed onto your cheeks and blended in with your fingers.

Complete the look with some soft pink lips. Start with Posie Tint applied directly onto the lips and again blended with your fingers. Top it off with a sheer pink like The Gloss in No Peeking (a creamy light pink).

Are you wearing anything special for New Year’s Eve?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

No I’m rockin’ new years eve with my mom and her friends they are a riot! We watch football and just chillax. I’m wearing an old navy pocket t, hotpink long sleeve shirt, old navy jeans, and converse sneakers. For makeup I’m wearing some Dame Edna eyes and lips.

I’m so excited for New Year’s. I’m doing a smokey brown & gold eye from the MAC Devoted Poppy palette with a little bit of Urban Decay YDK in the center (my fave)… love it! Hope your night is great 🙂

My husband and I are staying in tonight… so it’s me in my slippers and a ponytail!

You’re tempting me with Benefit – I haven’t tried any of their products yet (mostly because we don’t have a counter around here). Next time I’m in California, I’m all over it, though.

    Happy New Year, Karen!

I’m dressing up a little cuz I’m going to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner with hubs and my little dude. He’s only 2 so we can’t do much. But we do party till midnight! We’re going for dinner, coming home, and having champagne and dessert while watching New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. Little dude will have sparkling cider 🙂

Tomorrow we’re getting up early to watch the Rose Parade. We live in Pasadena and my friend’s mom works at B of A on the route. We get to watch the parade indoors from her office building. Plus they serve bagels and other goodies. We’re set!

    Hi Tuprnut,

Girl, it looks like we’re going that route, too. I may end up just staying home and playing with some lipsticks until midnight, ha ha!

OoOo… if you’re ever in Northern California you’ll have to hit up one of the Benefit stores. They are really fun to hang out in. The girls will let you sit there and play forever!

    Happy New Year!

    Hi Shefali,

Yum… I heart Cheesecake Factory (shrimp scampi = LOVE). Have fun tonight and tomorrow watching the parade. Sounds like you’ll have the best seats in the house! 🙂

I am doing nothing for New Years lol. Me and the boy are staying home and watching hockey. So just freshly showered/no makeup for me.
    Happy New Year!

This look sounds pretty! I’ve been eyeing that Big Beautiful Eyes palette for awhile, pretty tempting.
For New Year’s Eve, I did a smokey eye from the MAC Chill collection using Vellum as the highlighting shade, Mont Black all over the lid, with Artic Grey on top. And I wore Snowscene lipglass!
But I live in CT, and we got a lot of snow and 60 mph winds, so BF and I just hung out and watched a movie LOL.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
