Naive Is Haute When It Comes to the Givenchy Naivement Couture Collection

January 12th, 2011 by Karen 53 Comments

givenchy naivement couture collection spring 2011

You don’t have to love the way you look in sunny shades of warm orange and yellow to like Givenchy’s new Naivement Couture collection, but it certainly helps.

The spring/summer collection beams onto eyes, lips, faces and nails with buttery colors all kissed by the sun. These orange, pink, green, beige and peach shades have me looking forward to window shopping in the springtime and cruising sunny sidewalks with El Hub. 🙂 And even the name, which means “naively couture” in French, seems to fit with that mood (as would a Caffè Americano sipped at an outdoor cafe).

A Sunlit Look

givenchy naivement couture collection spring 2011

See how the orange eyeshadow extends beyond the model’s eyelids and up into her brows, and how it sweeps below her eyes and melts into the pink blush upon her cheeks? — like rays of sunlight painted on?

It almost looks like it’s radiating heat, which, considering how cold and gray it is here, makes me want to jump through the monitor.

I love watching this kind of makeup strut down the runway, but how would it work in the frozen food aisle at Trader Joe’s? Ha! Isn’t that a reasonable question? 🙂 I mean, I guess I could make it more wearable by only applying the orange to the lids…

What’s Permanent, Limited Edition, and Where It Can Be Found

The 16-piece release comes with both permanent and limited edition products, nine of them repromotes that area available now, and seven are limited edition.

International gals can look forward to all seven of the L.E. pieces arriving this spring; Here in the U.S., we’ll have to settle for just four (coming to Sephora stores and online next month).

The Four Givenchy Naivement Couture Limited Edition Pieces Coming to the U.S.

My lazy bum can’t wait to see — and touch — the hot pink Blush Gelée in Candide Pink ($33). Like the Aura Sheer Cheek Stain from Hourglass, it comes with a sponge-tip applicator, but instead of a twist-up pen, it has a squeeze tube (can I get an AMEN for convenient packaging?). Givenchy says their Blush Gelees have a high water content that creates a cooling sensation on the skin that I bet will feel nice and refreshing when it’s hot.

The eyeshadow quad, Le Prisme Eye Quad in Candide Garden ($56), looks like something I’d expect to find growing in my parents’ garden at home. The four earth-toned shadows, in fresh shades of orange, brown and green, should add a gentle warmth to the eyes.

And to emphasize those pretty peepers even more, there’s the creamy brown Magic Khôl Eyeliner in Coffee ($22). A swipe and smudge along lower lash lines should do the trick.

Last, but not least, there’s Rouge Interdit Lipstick in Candide Tangerine 50 ($29), a deliciously shiny orange like a more elegant, refined version of my granny’s old school coral Revlon Orange Flip. I’d rock it with a cat eye for a Mad Men-inspired look.

Have a look, and let me know which ones warm you up. 🙂

I couldn’t help but notice that most of the repromoted face products appear geared to lighter lasses. I’ve had high hopes for this collection because I have a soft spot for warm colors, but I really hope this doesn’t mean the colors will falter on darker skin (I’m keeping my fingers crossed).

Epic Running Mix!

Last night I hit the treadmill and stumbled (ha!) upon this euphoric music mix on my iPod. I had it on random, and these are the songs that played. I have to warn you — I like lots of cheeseball pop. 😉

Steppin’ Out, Kaskade

Cradle of Love, Billy Idol

Don’t Change, INXS

Hypnotize, Notorious B.I.G.

We R Who We R, Ke$ha

Empire State of Mind, Jay-Z

Bulletproof, La Roux

Club Can’t Handle Me, Flo-Rida

Nothing on You, B.o.B.

Yup, the roads are still solid ice and we have no salt trucks here. We did leave the house to walk to lunch today. It was quite the adventure but I managed to not slip. I dealt with my stir crazyness by browsing the sephora website for way too long and buying some springy goodies. I discovered tarte has made powder blush versions of their cheek stains – have you seen these yet? I ordered tipsy – my fave of the stains!

Oh my. It looks like they gave the poor model jaundice. I do not think think this look would transfer well to the real world.

I’m really feeling the Blush Gelée. I would be hesitant to buy it without a review, though, to see how bendable it is. Knowing me and my lack of skills I would end up with polka dotted cheeks.

Oh yes, I’m a huge dance/trance fan. It all started with Tiesto back in 2002…Kaskade’s style is more chill, downtempo beats but still fun to dance to! Tiesto is great to listen to while running.

My husband used to dj back in the day and was REALLY into deep house. He made me a mix cd of his favorite tracks when we were still dating and it’s awesome to rock out to!

Saturday night I’m meeting up with some girlfriends for Mexican food & margaritas, with some dancing afterwards if the mood strikes. Sunday I’m going to a minor league hockey game with my son, my husband & his mom. Should be fun, although I’m not too excited about turning 31, lol!

I sometimes do an almost identical eye look to this with the orange from Nars mediterranee – I’ve gotta blend to I bleed but it looks fantastic on me when I go big and blend up over the brows. I’m not sure if it’s my red hair – my brows and mediterranee are almost the same color – or super deep set eyes that let me pull it off but given that I look like crap in a smokey eye it’s my favorite go-to high drama look.

I normally hate spring colors – pastels! blech! but that quad is lovely. $56 for pale, sheer shades lovely? This is my issue with Givenchy – other brands give me a whole lot of bang for my makeup buck, so I’d have to be really freakin enamored with something to want to pay that premium.

Is anyone else bugged by that model’s deer-in-the-headlights look?

I’ve always thought “who on earth could wear orange shadow?”. Now I know. This looks amazing. Of course, it’s completely unwearable in the real world, but still, it makes me want to go out and buy some! 🙂

I have a lot of INXS on my iPod too. I might have to add Cradle of Love – that was always my BI favorite. I was on shuffle last night too and must have flipped through 100 songs on the treadclimber. There was nothing I seemed to want to listen to. Good timing that you included some recs above! 🙂
