You don’t have to love the way you look in sunny shades of warm orange and yellow to like Givenchy’s new Naivement Couture collection, but it certainly helps.
The spring/summer collection beams onto eyes, lips, faces and nails with buttery colors all kissed by the sun. These orange, pink, green, beige and peach shades have me looking forward to window shopping in the springtime and cruising sunny sidewalks with El Hub. 🙂 And even the name, which means “naively couture” in French, seems to fit with that mood (as would a Caffè Americano sipped at an outdoor cafe).
A Sunlit Look
See how the orange eyeshadow extends beyond the model’s eyelids and up into her brows, and how it sweeps below her eyes and melts into the pink blush upon her cheeks? — like rays of sunlight painted on?
It almost looks like it’s radiating heat, which, considering how cold and gray it is here, makes me want to jump through the monitor.
I love watching this kind of makeup strut down the runway, but how would it work in the frozen food aisle at Trader Joe’s? Ha! Isn’t that a reasonable question? 🙂 I mean, I guess I could make it more wearable by only applying the orange to the lids…
What’s Permanent, Limited Edition, and Where It Can Be Found
The 16-piece release comes with both permanent and limited edition products, nine of them repromotes that area available now, and seven are limited edition.
International gals can look forward to all seven of the L.E. pieces arriving this spring; Here in the U.S., we’ll have to settle for just four (coming to Sephora stores and online next month).
The Four Givenchy Naivement Couture Limited Edition Pieces Coming to the U.S.
My lazy bum can’t wait to see — and touch — the hot pink Blush Gelée in Candide Pink ($33). Like the Aura Sheer Cheek Stain from Hourglass, it comes with a sponge-tip applicator, but instead of a twist-up pen, it has a squeeze tube (can I get an AMEN for convenient packaging?). Givenchy says their Blush Gelees have a high water content that creates a cooling sensation on the skin that I bet will feel nice and refreshing when it’s hot.
The eyeshadow quad, Le Prisme Eye Quad in Candide Garden ($56), looks like something I’d expect to find growing in my parents’ garden at home. The four earth-toned shadows, in fresh shades of orange, brown and green, should add a gentle warmth to the eyes.
And to emphasize those pretty peepers even more, there’s the creamy brown Magic Khôl Eyeliner in Coffee ($22). A swipe and smudge along lower lash lines should do the trick.
Last, but not least, there’s Rouge Interdit Lipstick in Candide Tangerine 50 ($29), a deliciously shiny orange like a more elegant, refined version of my granny’s old school coral Revlon Orange Flip. I’d rock it with a cat eye for a Mad Men-inspired look.

I couldn’t help but notice that most of the repromoted face products appear geared to lighter lasses. I’ve had high hopes for this collection because I have a soft spot for warm colors, but I really hope this doesn’t mean the colors will falter on darker skin (I’m keeping my fingers crossed).
Epic Running Mix!
Last night I hit the treadmill and stumbled (ha!) upon this euphoric music mix on my iPod. I had it on random, and these are the songs that played. I have to warn you — I like lots of cheeseball pop. 😉
Steppin’ Out, Kaskade
Cradle of Love, Billy Idol
Don’t Change, INXS
Hypnotize, Notorious B.I.G.
We R Who We R, Ke$ha
Empire State of Mind, Jay-Z
Bulletproof, La Roux
Club Can’t Handle Me, Flo-Rida
Nothing on You, B.o.B.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

OMG, that jelly blush looks awesome.

I’m pretty stoked about it! I hope it wears well on the cheeks!

I wish the nail polish was available here in the U.S.!
That blush will be mine! That’s a decent price for Givenchy, yah?
Check out the High Contrast remix of Bulketproof! You can find it on YouTube. Love that song!
It is. I really hope it layers well… can’t wait to find out of the cooling sensation is really, uh, cool! 😀
Are you still snowed in?
And thank you for the song rec!
Yup, the roads are still solid ice and we have no salt trucks here. We did leave the house to walk to lunch today. It was quite the adventure but I managed to not slip. I dealt with my stir crazyness by browsing the sephora website for way too long and buying some springy goodies. I discovered tarte has made powder blush versions of their cheek stains – have you seen these yet? I ordered tipsy – my fave of the stains!
I totally approve of this method of relief! 🙂
I did see those blushes! Let me guess… you bought the coral one.
Yup I got tipsy! Tarte seems to have awesome new stuff for spring!
I have my eye on Amused (pink), Blushing Bride (plummy rose) and Blissful (warm peach).
I really like the packaging and the embossed pans!
The eyeshadow quad and the nail polish are amazing!
And as for that song mix: Cradle of Love and Don’t Change are two of my favorite songs ever!
Remember the Cradle of Love video? I used to think that girl was the sh*t!
Definitely! I saw a Billy Idol concert recently on PBS’s Soundstage program. It was probably filmed a year or two ago at the most. Even in his 50s, the man can still rock out!
Yes he can! I loved him in The Wedding Singer. 🙂
Oh, did the White Wedding video ever scare you when you were a kid?
Oh, yeah, very creepy video!
Blush Gelée OMG!!!! I WANT it 🙂

It’s cute, right?
blush gelee — wooowww!!! makes me want to look pretty and eat it all at the same time!
LOL, it looks kinda like a raspberry push up pop. Have you ever had one of those?
yes i <3 those pushup pop things!
im hungry now. 😛
Normally, I just glance at the Givenchy display, but this time I shall stop and really look! I’m really liking the whole tangerine thing that’s going on here-and it looks good on a really pale person! Likey!

Oh my. It looks like they gave the poor model jaundice. I do not think think this look would transfer well to the real world.
I’m really feeling the Blush Gelée. I would be hesitant to buy it without a review, though, to see how bendable it is. Knowing me and my lack of skills I would end up with polka dotted cheeks.
The quad looks a lot less scary than the photo of the model led me to expect. 😀
I’m impressed that you can remember the songs that played while you were exercising. Usually at the end of a workout, I can remember maybe the first song and last song I heard, and pretty much anything could have happened in between!

I listen to songs on my iPod or my phone, so I can toggle back and forth between them. 🙂
Have you been wearing your Coralista this week?
Yes, love it! My old standby blush just seems so boring now. 🙂

I love the model’s makeup! The tangerine lipstick looks good to me. I don’t own any orange lippes. Strange, I thought I owned every color!

Orange lips rock! If you get a color and it’s too orange you could always tone it down with a little red.
Very true! I think I don’t really wear bright lips because my outfits are very standard and blah. Karen, this means that we need to go shopping! 😛

Eh, pass. Givenchy has never caught my interest.
LOVE Kaskade! Have you ever seen him live?
No. That’s the only song I know by him… and it’s only ’cause we danced to it once in class. Do you have any to recommend?
Move For Me, I Remember, Angel On My Shoulder. He’s also a member of Late Night Alumni, check out their song Empty Streets (especially Tiesto’s remix).
Kaskade is from Chicago but lives in SF – I saw him live at a small venue here in Nov. 2009. Good stuff!
I remember my hip hop teacher telling me that! Thanks for the recs. I didn’t know you liked dance music. 🙂
Oh yes, I’m a huge dance/trance fan. It all started with Tiesto back in 2002…Kaskade’s style is more chill, downtempo beats but still fun to dance to! Tiesto is great to listen to while running.
I love certain genres of dance music (drum n bass, deep house) and others I need a few beers to appreciate, LOL!
Happy almost birthday, btw! Do you have your plans for the weekend ironed out?
My husband used to dj back in the day and was REALLY into deep house. He made me a mix cd of his favorite tracks when we were still dating and it’s awesome to rock out to!
Saturday night I’m meeting up with some girlfriends for Mexican food & margaritas, with some dancing afterwards if the mood strikes. Sunday I’m going to a minor league hockey game with my son, my husband & his mom. Should be fun, although I’m not too excited about turning 31, lol!
I sometimes do an almost identical eye look to this with the orange from Nars mediterranee – I’ve gotta blend to I bleed but it looks fantastic on me when I go big and blend up over the brows. I’m not sure if it’s my red hair – my brows and mediterranee are almost the same color – or super deep set eyes that let me pull it off but given that I look like crap in a smokey eye it’s my favorite go-to high drama look.
I normally hate spring colors – pastels! blech! but that quad is lovely. $56 for pale, sheer shades lovely? This is my issue with Givenchy – other brands give me a whole lot of bang for my makeup buck, so I’d have to be really freakin enamored with something to want to pay that premium.
Is anyone else bugged by that model’s deer-in-the-headlights look?
I’m in love with this blush just from what I see here. I’m so going to try it out when it’s in stores over here in Germany.
Thanks for shearing this. 😀

I know it’s photoshopped – but what I would do for this porcelain teint!!!!
I’ve always thought “who on earth could wear orange shadow?”. Now I know. This looks amazing. Of course, it’s completely unwearable in the real world, but still, it makes me want to go out and buy some! 🙂
I have a lot of INXS on my iPod too. I might have to add Cradle of Love – that was always my BI favorite. I was on shuffle last night too and must have flipped through 100 songs on the treadclimber. There was nothing I seemed to want to listen to. Good timing that you included some recs above! 🙂
Nooo, it’s not unwearable. Really. I’m wearing Follow Your Fancy pigment today on black base (Slick Black Greasepaint Stick) and it doesn’t look too bad – if I may say so myself 🙂 I’m NW43 and I didn’t scare anybody yet 😉

I’m sure you look awesome! I should have specified unwearable from eyebrows to blush on *me*. I’d be scaring people left and right!! 🙂 Though, I’m seriously going to look into an orange shadow or two now that I see how great it looks with green eyes. I’ll just need to keep it on my lids!
I’m going to be a brat and suggest NARS Taj Mahal now 😉 That’s some crazy pigment but it just might work for you if applied with a light hand. I put only ONE swipe on yesterday and it was still so much pigment I had to sheer it out. Try it! 🙂 [e/s or Taj Mahal]
I’ll definitely check it out! Thanks!! 🙂
Thank you, Givenchy, for not riding the Pink and Gray Spring Trend Train to Everyoneisdoingit Town!!
I’m very happy to see these colors! The quad warrants a closer look – very pretty and wearable for us warm-toned girls.
The extended orange eyeshadow is very reminiscent of Cheryl Cole’s look in the Fight for this Love video (watch out for her, she’s hitting your shores as one of the new X Factor panellists).
The jelly blush looks incredible; a sure fire way to get that pink and dewy Spring glow.

Oh these are intriguing! I’m also in love with the blush, this looks like it would be fun to play with for sure.
I am not thrilled. The promo pic is nice, though!
I love this collection! Totally adore bright tangerine and pink hues! I think I’m someone who can luckily pull off dramatic orange lips, so I’ll be grabbing that lipstick. The gel blush looks really nice too.
Just died and entered Givenchy Heaven!

To me it looks like either she had been at a bar brawl or ran into something (literally). Sorry 😀 A rather unflattering look which does not match the pretty gown.
