Mother’s Day Gorgeous Gift Ideas: The Hourglass Vol. 6 Neo-Classic Eye Palette

April 25th, 2012 by Karen 23 Comments

hourglass neo classic palette

I think I’ve only seen my mom wear eyeshadow once, maybe twice in my entire life. She’ll rock her MAC Lychee Luxe Lipglass hard, but eye makeup just isn’t her thing.

Oh, but if it was? I’d give her the Hourglass Vol. 6 Neo-Classic Palette ($58) for Mother’s Day…and then promptly find a way to “borrow” it from her and forget to give it back, haha!

I’d be so tempted to keep it for myself!

Inside the elegant packaging (it even has one of those swivel mirrors) live six long-wearing powder eyeshadows, five mattes and one shimmer, in some very flattering shades.

This post is part of series called Mother’s Day Gorgeous Gift Ideas. For more ideas, check out…

  • La Petite Patisserie Trio From Laura Mercier
  • The Clarisonic Mia2 Sonic Skin Cleansing Acne Clarifying Collection
  • Crabtree & Evelyn Wisteria Bath and Body Collection
  • Roger & Gallet Bois d’Orange

WARNING: Don’t be surprised if Mom gets hooked on Hourglass after this. It’s an expensive brand, but the more I see of their products, the more I’m impressed. Just like the shadows in the Dune duo we looked at a while back, these particular shadows last all day long on me when layered on top of a good primer, and as if that wasn’t enough, they practically blend themselves! 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Guess what…? It’s hump day. We’re almost over the hump.

He is! When I plop onto the couch for an evening of TV, he is close on my heels so he can plop down beside me. He also likes it when we hold hands/paws. 🙂

I’m so glad that he’s now a part of your fur family. I still remember when he was just the stray kitty on the porch!

Definitely a pretty palette – I can see you rocking the blue for sure. And, in the immortal words of Shock G, do the humpty hump. 🙂

GURL. I rocked out to that song at the freshman high school dance…did I tell you that my 20 year high school reunion is next year? All of the sudden I’ve turned into Romy & Michelle.

HAHA! That’s awesome! It really is a fun song. 🙂

NO, you did not! How do you feel about it? Excited to catch up or “I think I’ll catch a movie instead”? Are Jen and Cindy both in your class? If so, I think you guys should strut in like Charlie’s Angels. HAHA!

We didn’t do anything for our 20th, which was a bummer. I still see all my closest friends on a regular basis but I’m always up for a reunion. I know not everyone feels that way, though. I guess it depends on how you felt about High School.

      Hi BJ,

Great ideas. Do you wear smokey eyes often? I love doing variations for nights out. I usually do a black/brown combo or a darker blue or green smokey eye.

hey karen!! yes i do, loves me a smokey eye girl! i’m often doin a lot of them on clients too! I know, i like to mix it up too! The same old just black or just brown doesn’t do for me as much these days. Lately i’ve been, i did a lovely one green the other day with MAC vex and juxt, then just added some black to smoke it up for night. The blue in this palette looks like it’d be a fun change!

Sounds pretty! I’ve never put Vex and Juxt together; I’ll have to try that sometime. My usual go-to green is MAC Humid. Do you have that shade? It’s super pretty with Club for a green/teal/gray smokey eye.

Yay, happy hump day! I don’t think this one is for me, just because matte shades tend to look really blah on me for some reason. I really need some shimmer to perk things up! My mom’s the same with yours! I don’t think I’ve seen her with eyeshadow like EVER.

      Hi Sunny,

I like shimmer too, but I love my mattes as well. They’re great for creating contrast with your glitter shadows.

Ooh, now *that* is a palette. I love the rich, matte shades! My mum’s not one for eye makeup either, but maybe something like this would convert her? 😛

You never know! I say you give it a try and if it doesn’t take you “borrow” the palette from her permanently. 😉

My mom wears eyeshadow but since she had hooded eyes you dont see most of it anyway. But I so would get this palette and “borrow” it from her….permanently!

LOL, great minds think alike, Naomi! I wish my mom would try wearing shadow…even if it was just a wash over the lids!

Do you and your mom ever go makeup shopping together?

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
