Monochromatic Makeup: Playful Pinks, and a Play on Cat Eyeliner

Inspired by this pink sweater!

I was inspired to do this monochromatic pink look by this quilted sweatshirt I found at the Eddie Bauer outlet store for 50% off (!).

I can’t remember the last time I walked into an Eddie Bauer store, but there’s one of their outlet stores at Vintage Oaks in Novato, and El Hub wanted to check it out one day to look for a jacket, which he found…and I found this. It’s incredibly soft, and I love the color.

I almost didn’t use any brushes for this look. I used my fingers to press the pink glitter eyeshadow on my lids and to pat the pink cream blush on my cheeks. Really, the only brush I used was an angled eyeshadow brush, which I dipped in a dark brown shadow to diffuse the edge of the liquid black cat eye liner (Tom Ford, baby!).

Speaking of the liner, next time you want to flip the script on your cat eyeliner game, try this: after you finish your cat eye flicks, line the inner corner of your eyes with the thinnest, skinniest line you can get away with.

Then line the outer portion of your lower lash line with your liquid liner, and connect the inner and outer sections by smudging the most infinitesimal amount of a coordinating eyeshadow color.

If you like to geek out over makeup, this is a fun way to do something a little different with your liner.

Thanks for the tips on the cat eyeliner. That really takes it up a notch! Got my fake kitty proof tree up, but it’s not decorated yet. Going with red, gold, silver and matte black ornaments this year. I stole the idea from a Williams Sonoma Home ad photo. Tres chic! Have a great weekend!

This is so pretty and I love that sweatshirt! Eddie Bauer has really good quality clothing. I have a white pre-lit tree that I put up for the 2nd time. I really like it! Happy Friday!

Your tree sounds pretty and fuss-free… I like it! Did you go with a special theme for the colors?

I do pretty non-traditional colors for the ornaments: pinks, blues, greens, and purple! I love pink for Christmas!

That sounds beautiful! Just yesterday I had to glaze and decorate a few sugar cookies for the bakery and those happen to be the colors we’re using for the holidays. I like that they’re untraditional but still festive. 🙂 Super fun!

So pretty!! I am going to try this look tomorrow night with a pink sweater I have. I love eyeliner and sparkle and this is an elegant combination. I haven’t put up a tree this year but I have fresh balsam pine garland and wreaths with winter berries and pine cones around the house. I’m fostering a few kittens and a tree would be too much fun for them 😸 Happy Friday!

Thanks Karen! Heres the scoop 😊 A neighbor of mine called me Monday. She knows i have rescued before and said two kittens were huddled under her porch trying to keep warm. Don’t know how long they were there but it is freezing this week with snow on/off. I finally got them in my have a heart, i couldn’t reach them by hand. Both are longhair, one is a tuxedo color, other is gray and white. Vet said they’re about 4 weeks old, the Mom probably left them there and unfortunately didn’t return. M keeping a lookout for her anyway with a food bowl. I’m bottle feeding, warming in towels -they love that! they’re doing great..Cutest little meows sigh…wish I could bring them over to visit you!

I wish you could visit with you, too! I would bring Connor. She’s turning out to be quite the little cat lady. 🙂 I hope that the kitties find their way to a good home when they’re ready. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that mom will be back (because you never know).

P.S. Is it hard to say goodbye to the rescues? My heart would break!

Connor seems to love all animals, she would adore these two beauties! I would love that for sure! Yeah it’s not easy saying goodbye. You do it for them you say and to make space to help the next… There are still a few that stay with me extra. One feral kitten I had overnight, absolutely hated me lol i swear he wanted to kill me for picking him up (had to catch him by hand, with gloves, little ferocious tiger lol). Then when I dropped him off at his new home, with his blanket, toys, ..he looked back at me like thank you, i will miss you even though i was mad at you…ouch my heart! I am going to name the girl CC and the boy Tabs if ok by you 😊 will keep you posted, I will have them another month at least….

    Karen,
you look SO pretty in pink!!! What a gorgeous look! I have been meaning to try out my new TF Pretty Baby quad that I got just for the sparkly duo chrome pink, so this look is inspiring me. I love your new Eddie Bauer sweater, too. Those raglan sleeves and the diamond texture add nice visual interest and contrast- it’s weekend vibe upgrade. I used to love shopping at Eddie Bauer but our local store closed and I thought they were no more! I need to keep my eyes peeled next time I am near the outlet stores.

Yes, we are getting a tree. Not getting one is not an option, the kids insist. Your makeup looks so fresh, it makes me think of spring already.

Ooh Ate K, servin up the flicks, Im lovin it! This was the exact tutorial I was just looking for, for my upturned eyes in the coldest East Coast weather—my eyes are the only features visible, with my scarf covering from my high cheekbones downward and my hat from my eyebrows upward. Thanks so much, ‘Teh!!!

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
